Montesa

  1. Started by scottman,

Been out on the bike today was having trouble getting it to tick over, and when hot needed to put on the choke to start again. The bike in question is a Montesa 311 still had plenty of power when running any ideas the carb looks a nightmare to take out and clean. Hopefully there is a trick to taking them out, can anyone help?

Since I wasn't careful enough during dismantling, I am not sure whether Cushion arm plates are in right position or I have turned it upside down. It can't be determined from the photos in the Owners Manual..

Anyone used a billet rear brake pedal? Are they shorter than standard and do they tuck in behind the clutch case?

I know this is sort of a stupid question, yet seems I need to ask it. Seems I have found a rather cherry example of the last of the 2T's , which indeed seem somewhat scarce here, and am considering getting it as a second bike and for its somewhat historical value as the last gen. I rode one off new and thought it a decent performer as compared to some prior models, still knowing they are a bit on the heavy side, yet great fun and reliable. Great punters bike! Question being, am I just simply daft in wanting this bike for to basically sit about and play with on occasion, or does this little reliable lump have as much apeal to some others as it does to me, add the collec…

  7. Ello everyone. I'm considering a change of bike soon and weighing up my options. It's easy enough to grab a ride on the 2 strokes as they are common enough to find someone who will let you have a little play however Montesa's are few and far between and due to the price tag people tend to be reluctant to let you ride theirs. Also the only ones I've seen are IMMACULATE. Do you guys actually ride them? Basically I'm after a dealer who will let me pop down and just have a pootle around the car park. I don't need to start chucking it up rocks etc, just have a feel and see if I "gel" with it or not. I'm in Sheffield so the closer the better really! All the best, Tom

So... I've been a bit concerned about the RT (2015) noise factor. It gets louder the longer you ride. So, after reading a post on here about an end cap you can fit to the outlet that seems to work a bit I decided to have a think. I stripped the exhaust. The packing inside is very glass fibery. I removed it and put in the bin. The exhaust seems to have two sections or zones, three if you include the end cap. Right at the bottom 'around the bend' there was very little if any packing. I'm unsure if that section is perforated...but regardless I bought some packing fibres, not the cloth - I used this on my KTM to good effect as you can pack the stuff into any shape unlike the…

Hi, looking for some advice, I'm currently rebuilding a 330 Montesa and can't find enough detail in the manual to solve the following: • what is the arrangement with the lower rear shock mount? I've replaced the spherical bearing. Is there a bush that fits inside this or a shouldered bolt? • does anyone have simplified wiring diagram? Does the pink wire from the stator go to a kill switch then to earth? • is it worth moving condenser up to underneath tank? What's the best way to do this? Any help appreciated. Steve

I took the job of restoring my uncles montesa cota 247. The project has been on going for a few years now as I haven’t always had the time or money to get stuff done. But now I’m getting somewhere, all parts are polished, chromed or powder coated. I have the task of the engine now, once this is rebuilt I can begin to build the bike again! But the problem lies with the crankshaft mainly, when I dismantled the engine and started to take parts out/off I noticed the crankshaft is broke on the flywheel side. Each side of the woodruff key has broke off. The broken parts were still there just not fixed on. So my question is what can be done with this? I’m a welder/fabricat…

Has anyone, not necessarily moved them, but found a wider more modern alternative that fits without cutting and welding. Im use to Bultacos and they’re easy to move, but this little gem feels like your stood on a couple cocktail sticks. My memory is playing tricks on me as I remember them being a lot better the last time I rode one in the late 70s. Thanks everyone.

If a 4RT runs out of gas are there any special procedures required to restart after filling the tank? I'm thinking maybe bleeding air out of the fuel pump or injector. I don't see anything mentioned in the owner's manual. Thanks.

Does anyhone know anything about the 2025 4ride? I have a '16 that i absolutely love, and fancy treating myself to a brand new one. A few UK dealers don't have any 2024's left in stock, and they are waiting for the '25 model. I've no idea what (if anything) has changed.

Hi I have just bought myself a 4rt which I am real happy with but i have a few niggling things.1st the clutch bit grabby on and off action I think first I will just change oil so whats best. Also my boss who knows his stuff reckons the bike is too quick for me and I should tame it down with gearing what do the majority of you lesser riders use ? As far as i can tell the bike is 100% stock I just need to give it a good service oil and filter and new airfilter etc what do you use for air filter oil ? I use twin air for my nephews mx bikes and have been told this is a no no in trials. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you give sorry if i have repeated boring questions…

315 transmission can anyone with a 315 have a look at theirs and tell me if the sprocket set-up matches that on the link above. ie circlip, splined washer, sprocket, splined washer, circlip, thrust washer mine only has the two circlips, one splined washer and the sprocket. yet everything is secure and there doesnt seem to be room for the rest. so is the diagram wrong or has a previous owner done something to mine. if yours is the same as mine should the single splined washer be inboard or out of the sprocket. i ran it outside at the last trial and the sprocket has worn on the inside so i'll try it one the inside on the next ride to see if this lines things up better.
