Just fitted an hour meter to my 2014. I'm really guessing the hours I do so I thought why not be accurate and not over or under service the bike. I fitted the meter on top of the throttle body for a relatively cool spot. Just zip clipped to the rubber hose nearby so no sticking it to throttle body. That gives easy remove for injector comes out with tank for valve clearance check. The red wire I just inserted up the HT lead sheath and the black goes to an earth. I placed the black wire terminal under the top coil bolt and the hour meter works perfectly. All totally removable in a few minutes. Here is a couple of pics for those wanting to fit one in a hidden spot. Mag…

Who makes the best sump guard / bash plate for the 4rt? Hear the standard ones are fairly soft? I've had a Mitani one for a beta Evo that was a big improvement on the standard one.

Hi Guys, got a 2006 4RT......no problem when its running and in use however when its sat on idle it has a what I can only describe as a "stutter"! .....its almost like it decides it wants to die- the revs drop then thinks better of it - probably only does it over a single stroke..... seems to first happen as the bike gets warm a few minutes before the fan cuts in then when the fan is on it may do it a few times.....its never stalled when it does this - it just has a stutter.... its got a new plug (it did the same on the old plug) - all wire connectors seem ok and as I said earlier it does not do it when being ridden..... any thoughts?

Hi, I have recently purchased an 81 349 and would like to know if anyone has experience with updating the swingarm to the later 84 349 MK/4 modifications with the shock mounts moved forward and swingarm angled. Also, with lowering the footrests. I have seen photos of 81 349s with these mods done and if anyone could give any dimensions or advice it would be appreciated. I always wanted to have an 81 and always planned to do the swingarm to those factory machine specs. Also, does anyone know if the later MK/4 swingarm would retrofit? I never heard whether or not the width at the pivot is the same for both.

Hello all, I apologise in advance because brake bleeding has been discussed to death on the forums. My lad rode my 4RT the other week and burnt the back brake out. Don't know how. The disc was warped and the cylinder seals were melted. New disc, seals and copper washers were fitted. I've bled a few brakes in my time and thought I had the knack. Pays not to be cocky because I have been on night after night trying to get this one bled. Did AJP design the rear caliper to trap air? Why is accessing the fluid reservoir like keyhole surgery? I think I am getting bitter. Anyway, I have constantly bled the thing. I remove the rear brake lever and use an allan key to…

New to Montesa. I have a 1998 315r which I have not taken out to play with yet. So far, 1 foot of snow is on the ground and I think it will stick around until mid April! Just wondering what a typical length of time or distance is for a 2 litre tank of gas riding it "moderately"? I will be trail riding mostly, in the back woods at the cottage. Thank you

Hi I lost one of the side seat/tank body mount screws ( the ones with the large 20mm approx pan head ) . I have some spares but they are too short for the tank/seat that I am using. Can anyone suggest a supplier - or are they commonly available parts ... maybe I am not searching for the correct term.

Can anyone advise. Just bought a 2001 315. Engine runs well, just needs some general servicing but upon closer inspection I discovered a crack on the ali frame, which really annoyed me because the seller told me there was no damage to the frame. I suppose it`s my own fault for not removing fender and tank for closer inspection. Anyway I have a contact who can TIG weld but I`m having a problem removing the expansion box from the frame. All bolts are removed and airbox is out, just seems so tight in there. Any help is appreciated. By the way, also having a problem opening the radiator cap. any ideas? Thanks

I've noticed the kickstart lever on my 2014 hits the foot peg if you push the lever down too far!!! I went too far a couple of times and put some marks in the end of the lever so decided to make a kickstart lever rubber until I come up with something better. I used a bit of red car heater hose. The internal diameter pushes pretty firm over the end of the lever and seems to stay on well when I kick it over. It may get slippery in wet conditions but so far seems ok in the dry. I used a Dremel tool to create a few craters for grip and with a wet boot may still grip well enough for a start???? Time will tell but no more hitting ally to steel with the hose on. Does everyo…

Any advice would be much appreciated... I can't get things settled down with the fuelling on my 315R: starts easily from cold with choke, but shortly after the choke is closed things go pear shaped! Throttle response gets sloppy pretty quickly - almost as if there's a disconnect between what the twist grip is doing and how the engine revs-up, with a noticeable delay and general feeling of sloppiness and lumpiness, until the point comes when the engine stalls. The only method of keeping the engine running (and to momentarily achieve a normal throttle connection), is to open the choke, but the instant it's closed again, things go back to where they were. …
