Montesa

  1. Started by KCB,

Does anyone know where I can get the rubber that goes in the fork tube. Part number is 2135.025 or 2135.023. Not sure which one is rubber. I had to drive this unit out as the rubber was swollen. I also would like to locate two tubes part number 5135.001. My email is kcbrowntwo7323@gmail.com Thanks

Just got a 1976 Cota and I need some decals for the tank cover. The Amal on it looks shot so I guess the way forward is Mikuni or similar ? Advice please. I am sure I will need other odds n sods cables etc. Where is my best option in the UK please ? I am based in Leicestershire.

I am in the process of trying to strip this bike and have a few questions. What are the differences between between VUK and a standard 247? Flywheel nut LH or RH thread? Any secret to removing the gearbox sprocket tried heat, currently sitting with heavy duty 3 leg pullers tension up. Anyone have a clear picture of the swing arm bush/spindle arrangement as the parts list drawing is not very clear? Cylinder nuts, got one off but other 3 are solid, currently bathing in plus gas? The bike has been stored for 20 or more years and almost everything is seized that'll do for now thanks in anticipation from gods own county

I am trying to check the crank seals but the two screws on the small cover on the left in the picture have been butchered. Does anyone know what is behind that cover? I am guessing another bolt for the main cover at the very least. Thanks Arfur

Most of the posts and question here are for newer bikes. Can anyone direct me to a site for Vintage Montesa?

Hi, Could somebody please have a look at the picture and tell me how the bottom stud is fixed in. At the moment it just turns not allowing me to tighten the nut that holds the bracket on. The top stud is ok. Is this a full engine strip down to fix this? Many thanks.

  11. Started by cliff montesa,

Hi, Could anybody shed any light on why the kickstart is fouling with the rear brake lever. It is the original brake lever and does not appear bent or anything. The kickstart is a new item from Inmotion that is supposed to be the correct one for the 349.

Hi, I have just got my first twin shock trials bike and intend to do a full restoration on it.....I fact I have already stripped it down ready to get the frame painted. No doubt I will have many questions as I start to put it back together, but I just have one quick one at the moment. Could somebody tell me what colour the upper engine support bars are supposed to be. Are they polished or painted silver? Apologies if that is not the correct name for them, but they are the bars that go across the engine at approx 45 degrees. At the moment mine are black but I know that is incorrect. Many thanks.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a Cota 349 (1979), and i'm currently reassembling the rear end. The current rear wheel spacers are none standard items. I have a new sprocket side spacer (form InMotion), but i'm short of the other spacer. Does anyone know where i might get one, or the correct length of this item (with a view to getting one made)? Also, does this spacer require any additional washers, or is it's sole addition, sufficient to take up the difference? I hope i've explained myself in enough detail for you expert enthusiasts, to provide an answer? Thanks.

Hi, new member to TC and 348 Montesa's. I'm trying to replace the crank seals on my 348 but I'm unable to remove the clutch basket! I would have expected the basket to lift off the shaft fairly easily once the nut, lock washer and clutch pack are removed but mine seems to be stuck!! Could the bearing be stuck on the shaft? Do I need a puller? Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi guys, long time no see, hope everyone is doing well. OK, what is the current situation for Cota 200C parts, still miserable? ...are kickstart gears and piston kits an issue as they used to be? Anything else I need to know? Looking to pick one up in the near future after selling my 247C and 248 a few years back. Best regards guys and thanks for your help. 😎

I just purchased a 1980 Cota 349 and am picking it up on Sat. Planning ahead can anyone give me the best part suppliers in the U.S. to go to. Is anyone aware of exploded views online or owners manuals? I will can Lewisport and see if they service the older Montesa parts since they are the modern Montesa parts importer, just looking for the vintage hook up. I figure B&J Racing may be a good starting point as well?

  19. Started by mudyman,

Hi Guys can any one help with the wheelbase of a 1980 349 (I) it´s longer than a 348 or the 349 from 1981 (I have all bikes mentioned and have compared the length). The result is that the 1980 bike was about 3 cm longer but the swinging arm is the same with all bikes so it must be the yokes or the steering head angle. The 1980 bike is a lot worse in sections than the earlier and later models so if its the yokes I could do a change. I can remember the 1980 bike being unpopular because of the handling when it came out. Cheers

Need help with a 1980 montesa kick starter. It seems to work one time and then the next crank it gets bound up and feels like your kicking through wet cement. its a friends bike and so I may not explain it well, maybe even playing with the clutch will help it to kick right the next time. Kick pedal seemed to be back to far to me but he said after it starts that it returns up higher. Any help would be great as this is a first bike for someone that is going to try entering some events this summer. help me hook another trials rider.
