  1. 10w40 oil is too thick for a Sherco gearbox. Putoline GP10 is probably the best gearbox oil to use in a Sherco. However, I now use ATF fluid and that works nearly as well, but is a fraction of the cost. Also, look at the clutch thread that is pinned to the top of the Beta posts.
  2. I have a Transit Connect short wheelbase, low roof, with a bulkhead fitted. My Evo fitted in crossways, corner to corner, as does my Sherco ST. If I fold down the passenger seat and open the bulkhead door, I can fit two bikes in. If buying second-hand be aware that at around 100,000 miles, the diesel engines will need new injectors.
  3. Why not advertise your trials competitions in your local press - with spectators welcome? Or, put up posters in the vicinity.
  4. Far more money to be made messing about with houses - sorry property.
  5. My 2014 Sherco ST 125 is running a bit rich. Do i turn the mixture screw clockwise or anticlockwise on the Keihin carb to lean the mixture? Thanks
  6. Essential modifications for a Sherco ST with the fuel tank under the "seat". 1. The Sherco plastic downtube protector doesn't work. When the fork yokes hit the downtubes, the plastic frame protector jumps out of the way, allowing the yokes to hit the frame. This dents the tubing, compromising it's strength.. It has/will happen to yours!. Bin the useless Sherco protector and make a new pair from black plastic electric conduit. Go to Screwfix and buy a length of Tower conduit heavy guage 25mm x 2m length Black (46738). £1.50. Cut off two 3" lengths. Slit them longways. line with thin draught excluder foam, sticky side to conduit. They will clip on to your frame without sticking and will stay in place and protect your frame (and it's strength). Replace periodically. 2. Fit an in-line fuel filter. One of these small ones from e.bay works well on a 125. £2.00. 250/300cc might need a larger one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Motorcycle-Bike-Engine-Fram-Plastic-Inline-Mini-Small-Fuel-Gas-Filte/251712866901?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36823%26meid%3D81696840dcbd4a2aa4b07eda01fde0e1%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D301972249841 3. Fit a Sherco fuel cap cover to keep dirt out of your recessed fuel filler, which is a built-in dirt trap. £10 from e.bay. 3 allen screws to fit it. Warm your mudguard with a hairdryer, then increase the size of the hole to suit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sherco-fuel-cap-cover-/272161414973?
  7. West Country Windings
  8. Probably have different stickers to make it go faster.
  9. Jim Evans is your best bet at the Beamish Owner's Club http://www.beamishownersclub.com/
  10. Best to read around the web on the subject of the consequences of using fuel saving/slippery oils in wet motorcycle clutches. Loads of examples. Try Honda owners websites. Here is a link: http://gl1800riders.com/forums/gtsearch.php?cx=partner-pub-7865546952023728%3A3265735643&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&q=slipping+clutch&sa=Search&siteurl=gl1800riders.com%2F&ref=&ss=6587j3815397j15 Lots more if you look. I used Castrol Magnatec in my Goldwing GL 1800. Once. Immediate clutch slip under hard acceleration. Had to take the clutch out and wash the plates. Then lightly sand each.
  11. First, before you do anything else, take the clutch cover off and check that you have 6 clutch springs fitted and not 4, 3 or 2 ! People sometimes remove springs to make the clutch pull easier, but it can lead to the clutch slipping. Secondly, has energy saving car engine oil,, or an oil which has slippery additives in it's recipe, such as Castrol Magnatec been used to fill the gearbox?. These will make a wet clutch slip. If so, you will need to drain the oil, remove the pack of clutch plates and wash them to remove the slippery oil. Then refill with something like Putoline GP10 gearbox oil.
  12. Hi I want to top up or replace the fork oil in my 2014 Sherco ST 125. Any "How to" videos on the net? Thanks
  13. Silver engine or black engine? For anything Beamish or Suzuki RL then Jim Evans is your man. http://www.beamishownersclub.com/
  14. I started trials at 58 years young. Been doing it 2 years and I ride in a competition every weekend - mostly the "Easy" sections. Still only about 20 in my head though ! You are only as old as you feel and it's never too late to start.
  15. I put them under the driver's seat. then lock the door.

    Beta Evo 250

2012/13/14 can jump out of gear. Plenty of threads about this in the "Beta" section of this forum. I had a 2013 250 Evo. Jumping out of gear in sections was annoying and frustrating. I was talking to a chap with a 2014 Evo yesterday and he was telling me that his did it sometimes. The first years had frame necks that could snap. The later hydro-formed frames don't. Find some pictures of the different frame necks, so that you know the ones to avoid. Mudguards are made of glass and are expensive - broke one the first time I went out after fitting a new one.
  17. I am wondering if it is possible to remove the ethanol from petrol? For instance, would it settle out in a column, due to their different viscosities? What about if you added water to the fuel first, so that it binds to the ethanol? Then would the ethanol/water part of the fuel settle out in a column? Could you absorb or filter the ethanol out of petrol - carbon filter or some other method? There is a garage in (I think) Bridgewater which still sells 4 star. Would this fuel contain ethanol? Would it still go "off" in 15 days? PS: I have just Googled "removing ethanol from petrol" and have found many links, such as this one = http://www.ehow.com/how_7830109_remove-ethanol-gasoline.html Could be worth investigating further.

    Atf In A Sherco

Anyone using ATF in their late model Sherco? Been using Putoline GP10 but some are saying that ATF is ok. Thoughts?

  20. Honda. My Honda GL1800 Gold Wing was assembled in the USA. It's alloy frame was cast in Canada. The engine was made in the USA, although I don't know where all the different components came from, although some were certainly made in the States, Japan, Canada, Italy and the Far East. Since 2012 the exact same model (apart from minor style changes) is now assembled in Japan. Where are all the individual components made now? I have no idea! In 2006 Honda made at least 100 GL 1800s and put them straight into storage. They were all eventually sold in 2011. http://www.gl1800.org.uk/technical/did-honda-end-goldwing-manufacturing-in-america-to-punish-poor-american-workmanship/ It would appear that making specialised, slow selling, niche market machines in large batches, then selling them slowly, or releasing at a later (distant) date is a Honda business option - especially for those models whose specifications remain the same over longer periods of time, such as the 1800 Gold Wing or the Honda/Montesa trials bikes.

    Tyres

In the south west of England we have mainly mud and roots, so Michelin X Lite on the rear is considered the best choice by many riders, but which tire is best for the front?
  22. A Manuel? Basil Fawlty has one that he does't want.
  23. Why not go to a UK trial. See the ACU website for a list of venues close to London - or there will be one in the south west of England. http://www.acu.org.uk/events/default.aspx https://www.facebook.com/groups/Wessextrialsrider/
  24. I always warm the engine up after washing the mud off. I have close neighbours and the bung reduces the volume a lot. I bet this is what caused the crank shaft seal to fail.
