  1. I would recommend duck and orange pate from Aldi. You can use a welder but I find a pop-up toaster works just as well.
  2. On a Sherco you can/could retard the timing by 3mm (not 3 degrees). This will make it softer when it revs up. (Not sure if you can do this on a Beta). You could also fit an S3 low compression head. Or/and fit an extra base gasket to lower the compression. Preferably do all of the above. I would get a 200cc Beta Rev 3 if I could find one. Very soft, but rare. The more modern Beta Evo 200cc bikes can still be a bit fiery - the newer ones even more so.
  3. One extra tooth on the rear sprocket will not make any noticeable difference whatsoever. Four teeth or even six extra teeth on the rear will make a noticeable difference, by slowing the bike down. One less tooth on the front will also make a noticeable difference in slowing the bike down. However, besides slowing the bike down, it will also increase the power at the back wheel!
  4. Go on the net and find an IRC supplier in northern France. The price, including postage is similar, if not less to the UK.
  5. The trees and forks in the photo are from a 1974 - 6 Honda MT Elsinore 125.
  6. I use one of these on a Honda TL 125 with a 150cc big bore kit. Works very well. You may have to modify or scrap the air box. CARBURETOR (SHW) PW22 TO FIT HONDA TLR200 TLR250 EARLY RTL250. (REF.H066SHW) (tyoffroad.co.uk)
  7. Looking at some of the tricked out Cubs, Bantams, Greeves etc at recent Trials competitions, most of them bear little resemblance to the original bikes of that era. Why not just get a brand new set of TRS or Beta forks and use them? Or, buy a brand new, modern trials bike and stick a Triumph Cub badge on it? Might as well.
  8. Additionally, battery running time will also depend on the ambient temperature. Lower temperatures will result in less running time and higher temperatures will result in longer running times. Additionally, the weight of the rider will have an effect. The lighter the rider, the longer the running time.
  9. I have one of these from TY Off Road. Fitted it more than a year ago. Ridden in a trial every other week. The carb works very well, but is a bit rich. CARBURETOR (SHW) PW22 TO FIT HONDA TLR200 TLR250 EARLY RTL250. (REF.H066SHW) (tyoffroad.co.uk)
  10. On a serious note, some of the early Evos developed frame (weld?) cracks. Beta replaced many frames. Perhaps water - moisture could be seeping in through a crack in the frame when you wash it etc. Check the area very carefully with a torch and perhaps even a magnifying glass.
  11. Just a thought - you haven't just imported the bike from Columbia? Could be Snow.
  12. Snacking issues? Try a Snickers - could well cure the issue! Snickers 'You're Not You When You're Hungry' TVC - AdNews - Bing video
  13. British Trials is completely different from the Spanish circus act. Due to totally different conditions. We should have a separate sport, with different rules and with a separate name. No Stop.

    150 kit

You have a Yamaha TTR clone, Jianshe engine. (Chinese, part owned by Yamaha). Videos on Youtube for fitting a big bore kit. Replace the 130 main jet in the Mikuni carb, with a 150.
  15. Why not get a pair of panniers and a top box a la BMW. You could then put all your stuff in them and carry it all around the sections. Don't understand why we don't see more of this sort of thing.
  16. I would advise not to start motorbike trials, because like smoking, crack cocaine and gambling, it is highly addictive!!! 😉
  17. On the Sherco rear-tankers, there is a long plastic fuel line, perhaps 60-70cm which runs from fuel tap, up to the top of the fuel tank, then back again, with various bits and pieces attached, including one-way-valve, breather, tee piece and fuel pump. This fuel line will develop small holes and cracks which cause erratic running, fuel leaks (apparently coming from the carb or pump, but not) and other weird and wonderful issues, which you will attribute to the carb, fuel pump or Brexit. ALL of this fuel line needs to be replaced every couple of years if you want your bike to run properly. It will only cost you a few quid. Just make sure you put everything back together correctly, especially the one-way-valve.
  18. Don't mess about. Just send it to West Country for a re-wind.

    gloves

If you sometimes bash your hands then armoured MX gloves work too.
  20. You often see some Bultacos at English Trials, especially Classic Trials, but the old (real) Montesas are rare. Wonder why?
  21. In England most Trials are held on a Sunday. with only a few on Saturday, whose arrangements often differ from the following: Trials usually start at 10.30. Usually ten sections, 4 laps. No break. It depends on numbers and sections, but they usually last between 3 and 4 hours. Cost is usually between £15 and £20. Number of riders can be anywhere between 40 and 100, with 60 - 70 most likely. There are usually 3 grades of difficulty: Expert, Clubman and Novice. Most Trials may have both Modern and Twinshock bikes. If you are going for the first time enter the Novice. Watch what the other riders do and follow them. Most importantly, don't take it too seriously and HAVE FUN!

  23. Remember that people have been killed when over-inflating tires to really high pressures, causing them to explode with extreme force.
  24. No special tools needed. It's easy. Our cat could do it!
