  1. Bob MacGregor Two Day; a variety of cross country going, good old-fashioned sections you could have a go at, even some roadwork to clear the bike's throat. The tremendous work put in to this new ground was clear to see. As much work probably went in to Perth's Centenary Two Day but, even had this trial been spared the weather that cut it to one day, I think it would have been narrowly pipped at the post by the Bob MacGregor. Thanks to both LMCC and P and D clubs.
  2. Or you could do the period Miller mod and fit a Mikuni.
  3. As well as not changing to their trick wheels it might be wise for bikes not to think about having several different riders aboard during the event this year?
  4. Trick bits do a cover for the inside of the Beta silencer so may do same for GG?
  5. Vivitar compact seems to have dial based settings rather than having to find the right menu to go through to eventually get to the function you want. - less confusing perhaps?
  6. I seem to recall the announcement even made the front page of MCN with a, for the time, spectacular picture of Mick Andrews topping a chunk of rock at the quarry. How times change - MCN? trials bike? it wouldn't happen now.

    Silencer 4rt

I am told, and assume correctly, that the 4RT needs to be further silenced beyond standard before they will allow it to be used in trials in Germany. If that is the case then there must be something available over there you could use?

    Silencer 4rt

As I say I can't remember the name but I definitely would have remembered that one so, no, not Addingham.

    Silencer 4rt

A few opinions to comment on then. I can't remember the name of the venue but there was a post on here about a venue that had been used for over twenty years without a single complaint from the neighbours until the very first time that someone took a 4RT there then they started to roll in. I wouldn
  10. I suppose that particular book should be on display in the National Museum of Scotland along with Jackie Williamson's Barbour mitts, SSDT timecard and trophy as Scottish Champion in '63(or '57) I think but BJ will correct my failing memory.

    Silencer 4rt

Well it has lost the very sharpest edge off the note but it's still far too b****y loud. How come a small scale operation like Beta can get it right but the World's number one motorcycle manufacturer has to produce a bike that threatens venues?
  12. The first (alloy tanked) 125s had the brake and sprocket on opposite sides as did, I think, the first of the plastic tank 125s with the painted on Fantic name. Later 125 and 200 with 3-dimensional tank badge had them both on the same side which remained the case in to the forward kick era. The 80 I can't speak for accurately but think it kept the opposite side arrrangement all the way through.
  13. No need to spend that much time and money to get a
  14. You should be able to get two bikes inside the Partner with ease.
  15. I think the only method accepted by manufacturers (recommended by Arai) is to wash in warm water under shower using baby shampoo (neutral pH) and definitely not to use heat to dry. Means you have to wash it when you don't need it the next week but preserves the integrity. It's your head and therefore your choice.

    08 Vibration

Vibration is probably due just to the normal loosening of threads as would be expected on any new bike after a short period of use, exacerbated by Italian build quality. Tighten up the engine bolts, probably the footrest mounts too and it should reduce to normal levels.
  17. Couldn't do much better than a 200 Beta to start with. There are two for sale in the Central Belt. Try Lanarkshire MCC and Dunf MCC websites for the adverts.
  18. Nice bike and I appreciate the need for mods, having ridden similar, but what a tragic waste of a genuine Works machine - any other Enfield could have been "hacked" and cut about to equal effect.
  19. Has anybody yet dared to spend money on this at the link below to avoid the long push and can they report if it is indeed a permanent fix? http://www.uk-motoplat.com/
  20. Don't do it - he's got too much lying about already!
  21. All of this ignores the fact that many helmets should not be painted in any case, this is common knowledge (plus see ACU Handbook which presumably reflects FIM documents). Who is liable when someone gets injured because his helmet fails due to him having painted it "under instruction"? Sadly this is the sort of stuff that needs to be considered nowadays. We could ask why is the FIM enforcing such arcane and archaic rules when volunteers' time and everyone's money could be much better spent on other things. The FIM could more profitably address the noise issue than argue about different hues on rider's helmets. Not much seems to have changed in forty years as regards what they see as a priority for the sport. By all means have a team identity but, looking at the photos, no two riders are dressed alike so why worry about helmet colour. You wll never get round the sponsorship problems to have everyone in a team wear the same gear or helmets so should not the number bibs be better used to provide National identities?
  22. Let us not forget British Trials Motorcycles "The Men and Their Machines" published by Bruce Main-Smith and captioned by the late Ralph Venables.
  23. Try fitting one from a Xispa, could it be worse?
  24. This thread has set my brain going and brought back memories of a C15 (highly altered) that was run by a chap named Jackson, whose first name I can't recall, in Yorkshire. Long after the Spanish two strokes came in he was still using it in the Scottish running two back sprockets, and altering the chain length, to get the speed on the road. This eventually became very long travel at the back if my memory is right but I have not seen or heard of it for years. Does anyone have any info or photos?
