Thanks for posting the pics - very good.
The mud down there was bad today!

Regarding the Rockshocks, mine felt strange when riding. When I tried them on the bench with no spring the rebound damping was not consistently there.
Laying them down there was no rebound, it may have just been my pair?
Nice looking shock but variable in its performance
-
Tried Rockshocks, good service from John who makes them, but couldn't get on with the shock action.
Ended up with alloy betors

Thanks for sharing,
Hawkstone hill (at the end) never looks big on film - until you get there!

My new S3 gloves fell apart after 3 events.
Xc ting stuff was ok, pity they are no more.

Hi dixie, is there any obvious alterations to the barrel porting - or is it birkett black magic?
-
Fair comment Woody.
If you compare the yokes side by side there is big difference between them.
The leading axle of the mono forks adds more to the length.
It just looks a big difference when comparing in the garage.
But if it rides ok then that answers the question.

The front end from a mono will fit on without a massive amount of re engineering.
However the mono yokes have more offset, so this will make the steering worse.
To correct this you will have to cut the frame and alter the frame head angle.
The alternative is bore out the twinshock yokes to 36mm.

I think your front mudguard is fitted the wrong way round.
-
I think the bike will be a 1986, Colin Appleyards in Yorkshire had a batch of these.
The tank is a squared off version of the normal tank.
The gearbox runs ok on ATF oil from any carspares shop.
A manual from an 1978 ty250 model will be the same.

Hi, I had one brand new & trialed it for 3 years.
Very good bike, only fault I had was the petrol tank cracked on the weld. The brake pistons can get jammed if you let the brake pads wear too much.
A good bike, you will enjoy it.
-
Same problem fitting them, ended up with angle grinder on them!
Springs & washers suddenly fly everywhere when fitting.
Took the tension out of the spring by using grip wire, then cut the wire after fitting.
Good when finally fitted.

Gasgas enduro is the same, does about 500 metres on reserve. I went on reserve 1.5km from home, pushing it 1km feels like a long way!
-
Saw a similar thing happen last year in the UK on a '09 250 gasgas , exactly the same place on the frame.

All the above is correct advice
1. Make sure the shoes are full contacting the drum.
2. Use a yz or it brake plate.
3. Machine the brake plate spindle hole to allow a small amount of play.
4. Hold the brake on while tightening wheel up.
5. Use oversized forklift truck brake lining material.

It should be similar to the gassers you are used to.
More than likely the main bearings are shot, plus the silencer packing is burnt out.
I would not rush to buy it.
-
In club events you may get away with a disc, probably not eligible for club championships etc..
The blue bar event is acu, so not eligible.
Probably have to ride it in modern bike class.
Converted twinshock bikes sometimes covered by 'trickshock' class.
Not really worth doing either conversion.
A well set up drum is better than a crap disc brake.
-
I think it is an alloy mini majesty tank.
They are quite rare, usually about

I think you may be in for an entertaining ride with the shopping trolley steering technology !

Nice one Daz, fingers crossed he does not lob it 1st time out.
Is the front brake any better with the setup you are running.
-
Hi mike55
If you listen to virtually any other Ty mono you will find it will make a similar noise to yours. Some worse some better.
It is difficult to cure but the general advice is to ensure the engine is bored to a tight clearance by a Ty specialist.
The cylinder head then needs some work in a lathe.
The engine is based on a Yamaha yz490. They are renowned for pinking, if you do a Google search you will find details how to alter the cylinder head and stop the pinking.
With regard to squish, a tight clearance (1mm) is beneficial in preventing pinking. However care must be taken not to increase the compression when reducing the squish.

It depends on what you are rating it on. The build quality is better than any Spanish trials bike new or old. Will take a huge amount of mechanical abuse.
But its puney suspension and brakes make for an uncomfortable ride.
The 125lc was a lot better and the 125r better still.
Probably only produces 10 bhp.

I used a box trailer for 10years it was great. The brenderup one above was the best but expensive, so I copied one for about a 10 times less. I put a slope on the front as they do drag on the motorway.
Get it fitted out with folding chairs, hooks for clothes, camel back for water. Make sure it fits under the open garage door.
