    2018 EC models

Just become proud owners of 2018 (yes!) gassers a 250 and a 125. I appreciate I.ll have to wait for Glen to get back from sunny Spain but am looking for general experiences from others. I should say we have less than 2 hours on the clock so my impressions are probably a bit premature. 1) The reworked clutch is dragging (even adjusted right to the extreme/ the hydraulic element is fine) is this a funtion of the OEM filled oil? 2) The steering is sweet..don.t know what they changed in detail but yep great. 3) Both the bikes feel a bit "flighty" or nervous which with the clutch drag makes them harder to ride than my old bike (280 2015) 3a) They are both "hard" to start as if it could be a sticky float needle;.. definitly not first kick (yes I know there is a knack plenty of practice with that) 4 My gut feeling is a weak spark, if I set the carburation (only using air screw and idle) to run smooth and sweet it makes the bike more nervous than if I set it to run lumpy/rich on tickover. clearly the motors are tight ( reccomended 8 hours of running in) so it may simply be this. Being a parsimonious pensioner I cant help bemoaning that we are going to take the edge off two new tyres whilst struggling with draggy clutches and tight motors before I can make a proper assesment. I can say they.re not straight from the box /PDI easyplan to get on and ride well.
  2. B40 is probably right...... spark plug... however..... Why dont you take it back under the warranty? as I understand it ,it is 6 months parts and labour.
  3. It used to buy them by the hundred and sell packs of six....if I stumble upon the reference and spec I.ll post it up.....just find a spring maker or even seller and take a stock or oem Spring with you and ask for c. 20% lighter wire with same physical dimensions...should be a starting point....logically they won't put same pressure on the plates so if you have a need for gutsy motor and Mitch clutch dumping this may not be solution for you....maybe a diaphragm clutch?

    Bamboozled Again

Looked and still no wiser.. yes forks...yes.reiger 1 damping adj. yes night time headlight (WTF always handy that)..internal engine changes ..no weight distributionnot even a clue....... .maybe I.m looking for too much information
  5. it.s about time the WTC organisation realise that most punters attach little relevance to thier series , it,s nice to watch a circus or a show but It has very little to do with my purchasing decisions or the day to day organisation of events for punters. maybe the manufacturers should do thier own marketing and research??

    Bamboozled Again

Looking at new bike time currently running 2014 125 racing and a 2015 280 .like em ..want new can.t find detail re. new models. Can anybody tell me exactly regarding 2017 models what weight distribution changes have been made to the Es range ? what rear shocks are std. on which bike. what forks are std on which bike ? have they finally sorted master cylinder seals problem? What internal components are different? Are the specs the same worldwide?... apart from uk not having homologated lights for example. what brake discs are they using?
  7. All the above replies confirm to me just how healthy is the system in the UK. Lived in France the last few years (Gard) basics here is licence c.£200.00 one day event entries c. £25.00 min. Actual official events within a 250 mile radius of home 10/year. with these figures you could drive 5000 miles and spend £500.00 on licence and entries to do 10 trials!......a sharp Br exit for me this year, having said that the "classic" 3 day trials are worth crossing the channel for.
  8. Perce andBaldilocks get my agreement. LINE then speed has been true for the last 50 years of my riding career, as a crispy who knows what to do but (to quote a little feat song .old folks boogie) when your mind makes a promise that your body can.t keep bla h blah blah. you have to be good to do the SSDT reasonably let alone get into the good riders class good riders can ride anything better than a less good rider that logic... I did find in my time as a rider that I got better the more times I rode it...you know whats coming and you pace yourself.
  9. Is it possible to collate what has been stolen and when and if when and where recovered just to see if there is a pattern. Here is not the place to discuss ways of trapping thieves but we surely all have an interest in this problem. It is important also to record your ownership and identify the goods ...Twice I have found my property only for our glorious police to give it back to the thief or his customer as my proof of ownership didn.t meet thier standards. I think it is only in the UK one can buy a new off road bike and not register it....one might save a few quid but is it worth it?.
  10. Having lived and been in the European trials Scene I can assure everyone that the SSDT is regarded here as the top trial in the world. If manufacturers and marketing people are reading I can add that nearly everybody I know (after 45 years of competition) uses the performance of bikes in the SSDT as thier yardstick of how good a bike is. It may be rude and old fashioned to say a good rider will win on any bike which in one day events may be true. A good rider can nurse a bike through the SSDT better than a crasher/thrasher but six days ,six hundred miles and 180 sections can throw up a lot of variables; this is what the top guys and marketing men fear.......apart from the fact that its a lot harder work than a WTC round.

    280 V's 300 Trs

I tried both yesterday at a test day, found the 280 to be my favourite; really clean with a linear pick up , steering and brakes were absolutly spot on. I can,t remember ever having a bike with brakes like tha;.t very easy to ride, All you need is a bit of self discipline, it does what you tell it to immidiately without leaving you floundering behind. The 300 was a different bike; the brakes were normal (just like my 2 year old 280 gas gas) steering and suspension obviosly the same, the throttle was stiff and the motor was lumpy as if air filter or carburation not well adjusted. unlike the 280 riding it seemed somehow unremarkable;.. a poor use of english language perhaps but put another way I didn,t want to get off the 280. A nagging doubt ; why were the brakes so different? years ago we used to line up new bikes ,same model ,etc. and they were always a bit different to each other ,is this a Spanish thing? or just set up?

    3D Printed Parts

How nice to see somebody else interested in engineering and trials bikes. I am retired now so my only words of wisdom (ha ha) would be to look for manufacturing process and material benifits which allow you to design parts which otherwise would be too expensive to make for sale;....the benifits of functionality are nearly always outweighed by the profit margin of the supply chain and your cost of sales....whilst thinking of commercial angle it is difficult to develop a idea or product without sharing it and if you share there is always somebody out there better equipped and ready to develop it to a market with or without you. I found 3d printing brilliant for prototype work as it is relatively cheap way of having a tangible item to proove many areas of your design work .I guess with plastic materials constantly improving very small batch production could be a way foreward. good luck and just keep on with your ideas.

    2017 Txt Gp

For those who are conesseurs it,s not a big problem but it can be misleading for new to subject..eg. I just been researching motorhomes and it,s the same confusion ..is it intended to be like buying electricity ,gas, telecoms etc. ad infinitum?. for an old scroat it.s just another element of modern living ...think we used to call it comparing eggs with eggs...if all these "businesses" and thier resellers clearly labelled/defined relativity of thier products they would sell similar volume but less profitably. Thank goodness (and proprietors of forums) buyers can sort the wheat from the chaff.
  16. It was and I assume still is policy to use observers who have ridden the event and are well aware of all the points raised here which goes a long way to keeping a sensible balance regarding the mix of riders regarding ability crowd pulling sponsors finance sportsmanship etc etc...havn,t,t been up for a couple of years but it seems a pretty good mix gets selected and voluntary fives are a fact of life.

Dimensions.....yes I,m getting daft in my old age....made a sketch of sprocket side rear wheel spacer/ insert before leaving france for uk.in order to machine one up ...only problem is I forget to put all the dimensions on the sketch.has anybody out there got one (new bike with inside chain tensioner ) it,s the outside bit I can,t recall I.e spindle through hole dia.17 ...inside of bearing od. 8 longs 20......0all length 18 stock dia 28.....then I need length and dia. Of shoulder for the snail cam and any other bits on the end. Thanks in anticipation
  19. So we,re all in the same boat.....you would think as line away suggests they would Bing a few in for the sake of their reputation.....maybe the new gas gas owners will take on board some of these niggling criticisms and for sake of a few centimes do something about it. What I was hopeing to find was somebody like Ivan Manning ( a guy who specialzed in seals of all types and loved hiss trials)...Ho hum
  20. We have two gasser snow ...both with braketec master cylinders....both have developed worn out front seal on piston....just did the wife's yesterday ...be dammned mine now needs doing...question is......has anybody identified a source to buy these , I know one can buy a repair kit but I find it a lot of money to replace a 20 pence lip seal..it looks like being a regular maintenance task I would prefer to have a stock of the bit that matters
