  1. As Cope says just rotate the stator with the rotation of the engine...why not take a file to the hole or try it with that sckt. cap left out..check your plug gap also.. After all this bike is Italian made so everything fits where it touches and is generally made of chocalate fudge (sorry lightweight chocolate fudge)..amazing how they ride so well and stay together for so long really. Ps we have to strip clean and WD40 ours every time we ride or wash them in this climate.....either that or let it do a good impression of a concrete mixer every time it runs.
  2. Its just part of modern living, everybody seems to want to get as much as possible for as little effort as possible. It seems as we are such a fragmented group of consumers poorly represented we just have to look out for ourselves. I did notice on my last agent /broker policy/invoice that the broker makes more than the insurer...typical uk businessmen ............ ( unfortunatly, this appelation can frequently be abridged to a four letter word of your choice). What further irritates me with my chosem make of bike is that there is an importer yet the new models don't appear on the comparison engines..and have to be dealt with by a broker as a grey import..It's not for me to get teccy about how this is done suffice to say top marks to Steve Saunders for getting Jotagas listed....I find for me 3pf&t JTG 250 comes in at £70.00...believe me I take all the cost factors into consideration when buying a new bike. One should also remember that we are consumers in a leisure "industry" and expect to be relieved of our money at every opportunity....well that seems to be the general mindset.
  3. Have done it several times along with several other French classics. This particular trial has good sections for all abilities. The organisation is not the best which is not helped by half the entry being Brits who are always most wellcome and who create thier own chaos, mostly it all adds to the fun. Entries are easy to do , Fuel/ logistics no problem, many folk take full advantage of the wellcome and get a few days riding in either side of the event. Last year I decided was my last and this is just me ( a miserable old scroat past sell by let alone best before date)..... reasons difficult to explain but the lack of shared language and culture added to the shambolic time control policy creates in many a mind set of push and shove which I detest and can live without. There is a certain brit individual who is going to have a nice surprise when he comes walking up my section on monday at this years SSDT but thats another story. Go and do it, stay cool and enjoy, suggest S3 class from how you describe your abilities ( A good S2 will get around the SSDT.. my missus who is close to drawing her state pension does.S4 ) you can choose to ride one or two laps depending on how physical you want your trial to be. Get your 20 ltrs of fuel before you get to Sardent , there is a little shop in the village Brit owners..it is poilitic also to patronise the Saturday evening Barbie in village as all proceeds go to local community projects. Thats my little perspective I'm sure others will have stuff to tell you...main thing is do it. Ps Nigel is rigght re light licences & insurance (although I 've seen quotations being presented and accepted) scrutinneering is getting stiffer due to FFM/insurance generally sharp edges are a no no i.e handlebar ends ,tooth protector on barsctr. It was a hot topic generally in France last summer that ripcord type kill buttons would become compulsory for this year ..should be in the regs or ask if in doubt before setting off. Normally this is a dry /dusty trial run michelins and take a couple of air filters..that way you can rotate them daily.
  4. If we could ever agree and decide upon one thing that would be usefull we could then work out how to make it happen. It seems to me that the recurring theme is accessability either places to do it or ways to try it. A 4 page thread indicates plenty of passion or interest and common ideas. It just seems to me we all do our little bits in isolation whilst better organised sports and pastimes engulf our basic neccecities. Ps have been president of our centre ACU , done lots of positive things etc but it seems to me the ACU is more about racing & speed event & insurances (which of course are important) than facilitating trials in the way we have discussed here, that has always been the case but in this modern world outside influences make it increasingly difficult for the individual to stand up against (or even have a little bit of Kudos with) ramblers , councils, government agencies, developers etc etc.
  5. At least this forum is addressing some of the basic problems of our sport . Baldilocks is quite right to say that the current sales ploy is inadequate. I guess that around 40 % of cost of a new bike is cost of sales.i.e sales promotion in one form or another. The current sales ploy of getingt the best rider you can afford and show him doing amazing things on your bike was simple and effective WHEN the average punter could aspire to mimic the top guy. Now we have practically nowhere to ride..sophisticated & fragile bikes practically no one can use to the limit , prohibitive insurance costs...Are the manufacturers so far up thier own as*es not to understand the effect of these factors?. Would they be wise to invest a tiny amount of money in a simple marketing exercise? Perhaps we should do it for them. I talk with many folk who could afford a new bike but do not and have indeed found other ways to enjoy trialing. Imagine this.. A manufacturer whose bikes sell for around £4.5K offer direct to end user a bike , with a 2 year warranty that will be respected with a ticket to ride somewhere intersting (that has something for the rest of the family to do as well) for the period of the warranty, an insurance deal that is unbeatable. I 'd be at front of the que to buy a new bike..I. go to the trials holiday park. I.d give them feedback, I.d be so chuffed with the deal all my mates would have to hear about it ad infinitum .my kids would associate trials with holidays ... Only a dream but possibly a better way to spend the cost of sales budget.
  6. I get from a quick read of the press release that all the manufacturers are supporting this no stop plan. Are they so out of touch with the punters who could buy thier products......WTC is an entertaining circus but it is not a good way to market thier products. Trials is a secret minority sport of the competitors and (theoretically) for the competitors. Personally I resent paying a substantial part of a new bike to fund layers of unneccesary cost of sales, but thats my problem it seems everybody else finds it sexy. It must be time for some serious market research . For me making and promoting sophisiticated bikes in the way they have been is a recipe for a decline in buying interest. Add to that a worldwide recession, all the problems of land access, insurance etc. .. There are several things they could do to sell more bikes which would be far more effective than a quick change of a rule.
  7. All insurance sales seem to rely on confusion /too much effort to sort good from bad to not needed..... perhaps our glorious leader will (like electricity prices which like most of his initiatives seems to have died after 2 or 3 weeks) insist on simplified sales conditions and terms ...still best not hold our breath eh?

    Clutch Hose Options

If you can get a Banjo fitting like on Sherco pre all these modern types it will be harder to snap off...have a look at Sherco's
  9. that promise could be in similar league as cheque is in the post ..I wont **** in your mout* etc. Ps I cant spell naieve either
  10. I and dozens of other competitors ran 2T betas including Evos for periods of up to 1 hour full chat (ish... it's best to vary throttle settings or if you're really worried pull the choke lever for a few seconds)) on the road and 6 hours a day trialing in ambient 40 degree c temps last summer;... they get hot yes but overheating as you describe is not normal.. It depends on how you define over heating
  11. there are few people who understand the whole steering geometry thing including me... I made a top yoke for a 2011 Sherco with view to moving bars foreward.. I machined three holes (forks & stem) on same axis.... turned out OEM part is not by c.1 deg..fortunatly it improved the steering...just finished batch for France as (bless em .) Sherco changed colour scheme again. Give your idea a try
  12. Is there anybody out there who is expert in ; torsion bar physics...machined springs.... or bearings.. I have (in my imagination) a cunning plan to make a swinging arm with constant chain tension, "different" suspension with adjustable footrest position thrown in for good measure. One of the problems involves using as low a friction sliding joint as is possible, ,I have in minds eye something like a strip of needle roller bearing (c 10 wide X 150 long X (eg). 2mm thick which can be "bent" & fitted into the "joint" a bit like big end shells in a car conrod./ What I.m trying to achieve is less weight , less unsprung weight, C.O G. lowered, more space for airbox/exhaust, constant chain tension, rising rate springing with seperate damping. A little project to play with in my retirement is all it is , if I/we can stimulate some new ideas for development of better trials bikes along the way, so much the better.
  13. bought & fitted in Europe this summer.. randon thought/comments;..... dont entertain other than magnetic type...dont lose your magnet!...mine has paid for itself a few times over now. never thought I'd be into safety devices such as this but it has saved me money..of course like most trials folk I cant believe how such a simple device can be so expensive..I can agree its probably not unrelated to the distribution system. Somebody said to me they were common on jetski's for obvious reasons ...might be worth looking in that direction

    Cush Drive Rubber

I probably been living on another planet and missed this ...just browsing specs of next prospective bike (2013Evo) and clutch spec. says cush drive rubber is this new? anybody know all about it?
  17. Jimbo I hope it's something more simple than a cracked head..... just for info..used a penetrant dye... probably with hindsight diesel fuel with colour in it.
  18. I had a Gasser once with a crack (invisible even with strong magnifier) in the head similar symptoms as you describe it sucked and blowed small amounts of water until it eventually blew a lot of water. what colour is the "smoke" blue black white....hope somebody else got a better idea for you.
  19. Not carbon but frame protectors try Ian Mc. Conachie at Trickbits (google it)
  20. Please dont hold whatI heard as a rumour to be true; it was said that X lite production will continue ..maybe it was just the old Tubed type .
  21. Is the brake pedal ( on most) trials bikes ergonomically positioned away from your foot as well? I fear it may be regarded as progress if the front brake and clutch levers get (re) positioned so as to avoid accidental operation as well.
  22. I heard yesterday that Michelin are ceasing production of X11 so we need to find something else. Hope to see further reports regards thier performance.
  23. eh oui...vie moderne...mind you I was encouraged to buy "ripcord" kill buttons this summer in view of next years rules... absolute rip off pricewiays and I was very negative about it (having managed without one for the last 43 years of competitive riding) however it has paid for itself in relation to cost of falling off damages that I/we would have otherwise incurred.
