I only know one trials guy from Chippenham with a 4RT.......please spare us if your initials are DB
  2. early effort for me at making vids hope it works

    Master Cylinder

from (shaky) memory M4 X c. 10 Csk. look up fasteners locally take parts and askat tradecounter.
  4. Cope;... I am a professor of mech eng. with 45 years of trials experience; may I simply say that your memory of my experiences with Sherco is far less vivid than mine.
  5. The sherco has probably done nothing because A) its a crap bike it has probably been broken down most of the time ... mine was I reverted to Beta after that disaterous year (we run 2 bikes and like yours ours havn't put a foot wrong even with what most UK riders would consider excessive use (as if that was possible) plus if they did I know that the importer (John Lampkin) tries hard to be sympathetic if and when problems arise, this attitude to customers is not universal amongst importers.
  6. got a mate who put it in the dishwasher (not with dirty dishes though).. Most "liners" come out nowadays for hand or machine washing
  7. It being a Beta I 'spect the clutch doesn't disengage too well either which isn't going to be ver helpfull. Canada 280i has explained re. cable winding around smaller diameter tube will take more winding than a big diameter for the cable to move the same distance... limiting factor on a simple twistgrip or throttle is diameter of handlebar. Many years ago you could get a geared (a bevel gear) throttle but from memory it was a one to one ratio if one could make a driven "gear" or set of "pulley" wheels in a magic box between the handle bar and the carb??? driven pulley could be a cam even for eg. slow bottom end switch top end These type of throttle are available with limiting factor being the smallest "diameter" is determined by the bar dia. I suppose there are whizz kids out there who could make a programmeable fly by wireless transducer to activate throttle slide...how many would one sell though?
  8. Interesting to note far more comments / interest in this problem enjoyed by just about all Beta owners for the last (what)10 years than comments regarding the shiney new red 2013 model. Is there any way to get an elementery and necessary control sorted by Beta ? . Mine responds very well to new oil (just about any up to 30W) My missus's has remained perfect from new. I will try (having tried everthing else apart from black magic) Pindle's idea of Putoline nano trans (not least 'cause Putoline have put sponsorship money into the SSDT).

you're not alone Pindle.. ruddy computers
  10. reasons for; It would make us (horrible bikers) more acceptable to general public..worldwide I could watch it on free to air tV some of the (taxpayers... that includes us!) funding would provide riding /training areas more sales lower unit cost of machinery? Imagine the "legacy" trials park after the few days of competition... did anyone see what they built for canoes?..any of the disciplines actually.
  11. yep in every way..omly good for our cause could come of it.
  12. Not the most practical answer but just riding/practicing what you have for 15 or 20 hours week for a few weeks works. Still always keen to find out other folks opinions
  13. I had a 2011 Sherco from new which had a failed water pump seal after 40 hours , had to do it myself as this problem would have ruined a weeks riding holiday... found the seal put in on the p***. this was one of several manufacturing faults I had to sort out with my new Sherco....I say I because I received poor service from the importers here. Most trials bikes are a collection of the cheapest components put together by the cheapest means wrapped up and marketed as dream fulfilment in a leisure industry. you pay your money and you take your chance.
  14. shouldn't they be issuing parachutes or maybe one of those elastic overhead safety harness thingy's?
  15. Another way to protect your fork stanchions would be trick bits long fork protectors not expensive, easy to fit& remove protect lower legs as well which generallty are more prone to being bashed. Just a thought
  16. probably putting this in wrong place ; a few usefull places to go and ride whilst in France Le Chamadou;.......... trials terrain camping etc (family facilities) www.camping-le-chamadou.com Happy trial................never been way down south... www.ecolehappytrial.fr La Bresse............ camping (limited space) trials terrain up to world standard ........www.motos88.com other trials worth planning for (apart from Creuse which loads of folk know of) Les 3 Jours de trial des Hautes Vosges runs every other year ..last year was excellent usually late july (after Creuse on way home?) Les 3 Jours de Ardech... Excellent.. runs end May early June Both these trials are well organised c. 60 to 100 K lap.... different every day with proper restaurant lunch stops, sections for all abilities advertised as no stop but nobody seems to understand meaning of that least of all hard route section plotters and observers. Getting entries for latter two is very difficult as they are "sold out" on first come first served basis Ardeche was 2 hours to fill up this year expect Vosges to be similar next year.

    Front Brake

It may be just me being fussy , we been riding a lot here in S. France c.20 hours a week bikes are running fine however I would like to soften or stop the front brake from biting as hard as it does, is it just a matter of glaze busting the disc & pads I.v done that and get a slight improvement but fear it wont last...anyone found (would it be) harder pads than OEM or a lasting solution?
  18. Just a quick impression in case anyone is interested. This was the second edition of this trial which starts at Colombier le vieux in the Ardeche it is the home of trialclub.com run by the trial de Burle it comprised of Sat.85 k & 20 sections Sun 95 K & 20 sections Monday 50 K & 18 sections. All sections have 4 routes catering for all abilities (Janet came in 11th on s4 out of 80 in the class). The interzone is mostly mountain tracks and trails through woods etc. Each day has a lunchstop with sit down restaurant service including 3 courses & wine you get an hour to eat if you arrive early you get that time as well ( I should point out that you get a timecard and have to clock in and out of time controls) generally a well organised event with some superb views and sections. The sections are advertised as no stop but the French don't really understand no stop and there are some sections from s3 to expert where you have to stop and hop if you want to clean them; this can cause a few bouchons (blockages) as there are sometimes groups of up to 10 mates riding together , I understand this will be stopped next year to aide the flow of riders. I will be going again (all things being equal) but you need to be sharp ..the entries opened this year sometime back in February and were full within 2 hours... first come first served basis.
  19. 242 arrived at lunch stop Monday with footrest bracket wiped off and a very sore opposite leg..he went back to parc ferme via north side of loch leven..we found him on run in to FW out of fuel.. splashed him some and that was last we saw of him.
  20. Thanks mcman56 1.27 of lift for full pull of the lever? thats 0.17mm (c. 10%!!!) more than mine. Some folk simply fi a master cylider which shifts more fluid to resolve all the Beta clutch dratg problems. any more bids? anybody fitted bigger master cyl. and measured lift?
  21. Think i've seen it etched on disc min thickness 2.4 mm. they probably start life as 3mm..so depends on what you have regards scores. As you probably know the pads often don't fully engage the disc and wear until they touch each other rather than squeeze the disc.

    Ssdt

Even the top riders who want and need to win (if they could make the time) know that a good riding number for your "team" is one of the things that need to be in place to have a chance of winning; those are already taken it seems. There is of course what everyone who has never ridden the SSDT underestimates; the formality of 6 tough days (on trials bikes which even with works specification and support arn't made for reliability trials) with a pleathora of observing "standards " to understand. In a nutshell .there's a lot of things in the SSDT which if you play the game are subject to chance a thing professionals in motor sport generally don't like.
  23. Trialscontrol...control ..kevin RS
  24. Didier Valade is your man to ask if you are going up for the SSDT ..I'll be sure to him if he gets to my section.
  25. Picture pictures pictures..please.......... what apleasure to know there ar guys out there as obsesive as me te he
