  1. What about these, I don't know what Alan Whittons are like ????
  2. Does anyone know the do's and don'ts re 35 mm yokes for use in the Scottish pre 65 trial. Trying to get my Bantam eligible, not too sure about the yokes. Whether I ride the trial remains to be seen but at least if the bike is eligible it's easier to sell if the time comes, But I will try to enter in the mean time when it's right.....
  3. Has anyone got any pics of the job being done or a link to it being done?? Just curious as have just found some Roadholders... http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/563299_437128349701195_765839942_n.jpg
  4. Probably pikies wanting the van, that said they wouldn't know what the bike stuff was so would probably weigh it in unfortunately. The Bantam frame is certainly distinctive so hopefully it may turn up.
  5. Has anyone got any info or steer me to some good pics of the Jeffries 250 Motorsport from the early 70s?? I know it's in the 4t finale book, any other info out there? Thanks. This one... http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/73860_112777632220649_1477658847_n.jpg

    Mot Exempt.

There will be the barn / garage finds that are solid enough but on perished tyres that will get dragged out and taxed and used, more likely cars but guarantee it is asking for trouble, it will only take one in a pile up or lose brakes at the wrong moment to cause carnage. In effect if you buy a running barn find you could tax it and drive out of the barn, it will happen.

They say jump we say how high. It will cause problems .

    Mot Exempt.

The pre 60 free mot thing will end in tears, mark my words. Maybe nothing to do with a trials related scenario but a barn find car. You heard it here first....... Asking for trouble, another ill thought out plan by this wonderful government.
  9. I have one of these for sale to suit a C15... Comes with swingarm etc.
  10. The Drayton frame has been modified to take a C15 engine....
  11. Jon you need to empty your message box...
  12. Needle rollers by the sound of it. You need to warm the case up, it will need to be quite hot, the ally case will expand at a faster rate than steel bearings, they should pop out then. Also don't get the cases shot blasted, they either need vapour, bead or soda blasting. It is a gentle process and won't pit the case just get them back to bare metal.Soda blasting wont affect the bearings if they won't come out as it just washes out after, best to get them out if you can. You need to de grease the cases before they go to be blasted.
  13. I just bought a rear X11(TUBELESS) one for £78.00 so they may be kosher as in the item. Did he say how they were cheaper ?? Were they tubed type,
  14. This bloke has made a cracking job of this BSA on Charlies site, and it has brakes that work... http://www.bsaotter.com/herberts_austrian_built_bsa_otter..html This is another... http://www.bsaotter.com/dave_woods_mk3_faber_otter_bsa_build.html All good stuff...
  15. On my Bantam I had the front drum machined and then some oversize shoes made up (Alan Whitton) the brake was fine until it went under water, now it has good and bad days even though it gets cleaned regularly. Because of this I'd rather have brakes that actually work which is why I will use the Fantic wheels on my next build. The back brake on the bantam is a widened hub with std shoes and is fine, just the front is crap.
  16. bobb you hit the nail on the head, "don't want to build a bike for one trial". In a nutshell, build what is allowed in your area. Build with brakes that work at sensible money. It seems many build bikes with Scotland as their yard stick and they never go north , they waste a lot of time and money whilst the wise build bikes in their sheds that are usable and don't break the bank.
  17. I believe someone has had "new" Roadholder bottoms cast. Had a price from Alan Whitton to machine Marzocchis to fit 3ta/5ta bottoms, I need to find some first but it wasn't too bad a price. As others have said depends on what you intend to ride, as I am riding BMCA events which have a specials class it's easier to build a bike with what is to hand without taking the p*** and tick the specials box on the entry form. If however I was to take the plunge and try for Scotland I'd need to change the forks and fit an Amal carb, Who knows one day maybe? in the meantime I'll ride the bike I have built. Next build is a C15, it will have Fantic forks and wheels, I'll just tick that box again.........

    1987 Beta Tr34.

Here's your man for older Beta parts and info..... http://www.stevegoodemotorcycles.co.uk/
  19. That's right Charlie. Needs to be done with the addition of a new type subframe as the BSA ones are lop sided, and a wider swing arm of course. I have leading axle forks also which needs to be considered
  20. No it's a case of moving the rear mounting (below the back of fuel tank) down the tube, the one that is the top subframe mount, this in turn changes the geometry. The front down tube has been cut but it doesn't alter the geometry, just plated on the end for the bash plate mounting.
  21. Beta stripey I believe. Only temporary until I can fit something more in keeping like a set of Marzocchis in some 3ta bottoms.
  22. I can't comment re the cub engine fitment but the way the head angle was changed on my std Bantam frame was by moving the rear top sub frame mount back down the upright tube (if that makes sense) in effect it turns the front main frame loop forward so altering the head angle. I can't quote angles but can measure it if need be.You can make out in this pic where the mounting is.Also had a new sub frame made and wider swingarm, and the bottom tube cut out and replaced with bash plate.
  23. As Jon says many like Bantams and the like can be sorted now to make a good trials bike with cdi ignition a better piston some porting and sort the gears not to mention a few chassis tweeks. As for a lot of the road stuff touted they were crap in the day and no better now, rose coloured specs I think. The worst has got to be the sports mopeds, Fizzys at 4k, and the Italian offerings around the same prices, people are crazy. I worked at a bike dealers back in the day, during the PDI we removed the metal caps, some got to first service, now people are paying for them, obviously the rivet counting polishers, same goes for the old tool kits. Fools and their money easily parted........... even in the longest recession in the history of long recessions.
  24. Money is tight, we are in a recession , have been for around 6 years. It's not the initial cost of the licence at £10, it is the cost of the travel etc. After the first application for the licence, the next ones are simple. If people are quibbling over the licence cost then maybe they need a cheaper hobby. What happens when they need a tyre and maybe wheel bearings etc. The trials I ride at that are the busiest are older generation riders, which in itself speaks volumes as to where the money is and isn't. Even those with money are reluctant to spend at the moment. Some clubs have increased entry fees and club membership over the last few years, clearly they are run by people unaffected by the recession or just greedy. A club doesn't need to show a profit after expense but they wonder why membership and entries drop.
