  1. The oil comes from the cylinder head breather. Due to legislation, whether its european or japanese, it states that no fluids are to go to ground. To do that they put the breather in the airbox, which is fine until the bike is running upside down or on its side and it fills your airbox with engine oil. Disconnect the pipe from the airbox, throw away the tank and put the head breather pipe down the side of the radiator into the sump guard
  2. Yeah they run pretty much constanty when they're upto temp. If there's any problems the fan won't cut in and coolant will trickle from the pump cover. It may be worth checking the water pump gear/shaft as they get very scored if its done alot of work. Change shaft, seal and I think 2 bearings.
  3. Standard 10-41. 1st gear for pretty much everything
  4. They grip as well as 2 strokes, its just a different way of finding it. You'll learn a lot on the soft peaty scottish moors. If you give it time, you'll love it.
  5. It comes with the piston if I remember, and wasn't that expensive. Don't forget to pump the old piston out of the cover before you drain the brake fluid or it'll be hard to get out. Craigs motorcycles will get you one.

    4Rt Wont Start !

Check the throttle cable is seated correctly as mentioned above. Also it will be a pig to start if the idle is set too low. Get it bump started again and make sure it has a steady tickover.
  7. If your going to the lengths of stripping the frame, check for cracks around where the footrest hangers bolt on, it can be a weak area if the bike has had a tough time. If they break off, its not an easy fix. Replace oil and filter as already stated, i run Motul 300v 5w30 and use it in the clutch and gearbox. 1ltr will replace both. Probably best to put a new plug in, just to keep her sweet. Other than that ENJOY

    Black Box

The carbon braces can break, but only on big impacts. Instead of the forks twisting in the yolkes as they do with the alloy brace, it'll snap the carbon across the bolt holes. Like I said they only break on big impacts, I've done 2 in 9 years so they're pretty good overall. The case saver is a worth while buy.
  9. The white frame looks the part, a classy bit of kit. They're showa stanchions, around £200 each when I priced a set to replace my bent ones a few years back. Probably a lot more now.
  10. Happy Christmas all, hope santa brought all those trick bits everyone wanted! Mines just a standard bike looking pretty.
  11. It can be awkward finding top dead centre on the compression stroke, but otherwise ok to do.
  12. I had a similar issue on my 06 bike, turned out the valvues were running too tight when the engine was hot. It started fine when cold tho. Might be worth checking them.
  13. I've got just the tyre for you perce, its been nicely bedded in pottering around scotland for 6 days, then turned it for the reeth 3 day. It should feel about right!
  14. We are not forced to do it! If you want to be classified in the results then you've got to complete the course.
  15. Dadof2, Got the bike sorted. She had no spark, tried a new plug and did a lot of head scratching and cursing at the time but turned out to be simple. The wire from the fuel pump back to the wiring loom had somehow become disconnected at the block connector! Plugged it back together and started 2nd kick. The last time I had the tank off was after the scottish, so I presume I hadn't pushed the connector home properly, annoying but at least it hasn't cost a bucket load to fix.
  16. Ha ha, they are always some of my boogie sections, they just felt like ice! Ran nearly 5psi in rear dunlop to avoid punctures. I could have done with some outside assistance from someone with a diagnostic kit for a mont! "Why won't this bl@@dy thing start"
  17. Observers have the opportunity in their observer books to make remarks regarding completing the section, if the observer does not think a given rider has made a valid attempt to the section, it can result in the disqualification of said rider(s). It has happened before and will happen again. This years event was good, didn't seem any harder than previous years, its meant to be tough! The sections aren't that hard, similar to centre championship std, its just because they are ridden blind and your arms are completely shot. I hope it is possible to mark the 100th year with 100 miles and 100 sections as it will truly be the ultimate test for any trials rider. Roll on 2014!
  18. Shame they couldn't make it sat the 19th and I could literally launch it around the Scott!
  19. French 4 day, like SSDT but more relaxed and fun SSDT The Scott, as fast and as hard as you can go Reeth 3 day White Rose Loch Lomand Manx, just to pretend your doing 180mph round the mountain! Ibiza 2 day, never been but looks good Cleveland Colonial Jack Wood American nationals, be good to do a few months out there
  20. H&D racing do Nisin m/cylinder in titanium and alloy, they're reasonably priced too.
  21. Thats dedication to the sport, for us, traveling to fort william for the ssdt once a year is a big deal! Thats only a 500mile round trip. I expect we would be using similar trials transport if we had to travel as far as you guys did every week or month.
  22. Enduro looks like hard work, dragging a bike up a hill that you'd sail up on any trials iron doesn't seem fun. MX looks fun, hitting a 100ftt table top would be a buzz! People say its all about how many $$$$ you have, so it makes me want to race and beat them more! Chris Walker runs Stalker mx, they hire bikes for
  23. Is there anyone on here that has any info on the mx scene? I'm fancying having a crack, before I get too old and too slow, but I don't want to sell my trials stuff to fund a mx bike to find out i'm no good. I think I could be pretty quick, just want to get some idea of what lap times I could push. Does anyone know of anyone who is in the business, ie running teams or circuits that can lend or hire bikes and kit at a reasonable price. I know Roger Harvey (used to run Hamilton Yamaha) is head of Honda Europe MX but cant find any contact details.

    2014 Montesa?

Hmmm, a new repsol would be nice... maybe it'll be a change of plastics tho.

    2014 Montesa?

After riding the 4t mont now for 8 years and tested most other bikes along the way, there's not alot between any of them, yes the mont is heavier, but the chassis and suspension more than makes up for it. Gassers and shercos are light, great for trick riding but they are really twitchy and quite hard work. There may not be any top riders on them in domestic series, but a std bike is more than capeable of finishing at the top of the btc given to dabs or browny. I might not have won alot on it, but i've led expert btc trials in the past, been somewhere near in nationals. Given more time to ride, i'm sure i could do it again and wouldn't ride a 2t any better. Theres nothing wrong with the bike, its very rewarding to ride. Its a misconception that you need all "the trick bits" to make them competetive. Just get on and learn how to ride them. Without doubt price has put many people off in the past, its a hard one to explain to the missus about wanting to spend 6k on a trials bike. Even 2nd hand ones aren't cheap.
