It's a real shame to see them stop, not many other people have made that level of effort to support our up and coming riders.
Well done for managing this far!

In terms of jetting, it was pretty much as standard although did take a little bit of setting up to get it running sweetly with the new airbox and exhaust. Keeping the noise down was biggest challenge as both the conversions I did had very little space for required intermediate silencer. TL125 front pipe from Sammy miller was a good starting point for the contruction of the pipe as the bend seemed to allow the right sort of shape threading between cylinder on one side and leg /boot on the other side. Kickstart /footrest was another challenge and petrol tank clearance to cylinder head...
One mistake I did make was although I (thought) had thoroughly cleaned the carb out, the donor bike had been stood for couple of years and took me ages to figure out why the bike wouldn't run on more than 1/4 throttle. Cleaned the carb out several times, still no joy then finally cleaned it 'properly' and suddenly the bike ran cleanly....
Good luck!
Andy
ps. you'll never stop tinkering either....

Hi I built a couple of trials bikes with honda engines that required lengthening the inlet manifold in one case by >45mm. Both bikes ran fine without problems. I didn't want to mofify the frame to get the carbs in so opted for the longer inlet route.

Still don't buy it.
There must be hundreds of (MX pant & shirt) print shops throughout europe who could very quickly (hours) re-brand a set of vanilla riding gear in the relevant sponsors logo's....?
Maybe the revolutionary technology not tested (/ not robust) against the extreme nature of the indoor section?
-
First time I've ever seen 'force majeure' as missing clothes.
Best keep that quiet in case the airports steal it for next time they're shut for bad weather...
-
Surely they didn't just find that out 3 days before the event...?
-
Maybe something more fundamental - like structural integrity?

Hi Mark,
Would love to but got some other commitments - maybe looking to ride in the new year as not ridden for couple of years since breaking my foot..

How is Gordon... not seen him for a few years...

Hi,
sorry can't help you with any info but if you are successful in getting one to fit and jetted let me know as I'd be interested in doing the same.

Only a spectator, probably 12+ times since 1981. Last visit 2008. Never ridden although every year I'm there wish I had.
Always manage to get parked in town even if it means walking across from the other end of town. Always enjoyed beer / food after the days spectating in town, usually somewhere different. Just finishes the day off. SSDT wouldn't be the same without the west end and walking through the town with bikes in the window, banners down the high street.
For me, my opinion, tradition rules. SSDT is fort william. Arrive saturday morning, see the flags, trucks in the parc ferme, week has already started.

Frame needed lots of surgery to fit. Mountings are the same pushroad or ohc, I actually used ohc. Mounting the carb is massive challenge as the (offset) inlet is directly in line with frame tube. Runs great without battery. Had to make new downtube from headstock further forward than original and lengthen bashplate. Then of course making up an exhaust to fit....
Took what seemed like ages to do, end result was worth it.

Hi,
I've had an aprilia 50 (very similar to the fantic 50) for a few years, bought it for my son then fitted a honda 125 engine about 4/5 years ago. Its a major transplant to do as the honda engine is much taller but having said that it is a nice little bike and 'reasonably' light weight. Great fun, was a much bigger job than I ever expected.
I have a set of marzocchi forks (small diameter stanchions) in the shed if you're stuck. Still have the original front wheel as well. I changed forks for a set of mono yam forks which are much more rigid.

We have the mitani front pipe fitted on the 125 and the 175, sounds a bit deeper but not noticed any real difference in performance. Big plus is it doesn't rust..... Never bothered with the rear pipe.

scottoiler on me road bikes since 1997, Currently on a GSXR750, never replaced a chain yet, rarely need to adjust tension either. Brilliant
WD40 on the trials bikes tho..... but can admit to looking at the dirtbike show and thinking about it.
-
Falcon can rebuild it for you. However after checking on the rebuild price, initially i modified a 303 (I think) fantic shock (roughly the correct length) to fit then eventually found a secondhand climber shock on ebay.....
With regard to the forks, I fitted a set of conventional fantic 303 forks and yokes which made a big difference over the original USD - made a spacer to fit the smaller spindle size and fitted the original front wheel.

You can get secondhand carbs off the later yamaha 125 engines - TTR, XT etc which are identical to the scorpa - I think the road bike versions are different (more complicated?)- I've bought a spare for my scorpa and prior to that ran one on my 200 honda with the same jetting as the 125, mixture was fine and ran much better (cleaner response) than the standard honda carb but is different fitment (goes into rubber manifold) rather than the honda flange.
Paid somewhere in the region of 15-20 quid from memory for the carb.

We use trialcast on our 125 & 175.

same size as a sump plug on some cars.... got mine from halfords
-
Try Talon directly they should be able to supply one.

I've just recently put barrel, piston & head from a Yam 125 trail bike engine on my 125 - its transformed the bike (admittedly the old 125 had a broken ring= smoked a bit when really hot) but appears to rev much more freely even without reducing the flywheel weight. It may just be the increase in performance due to the ring tho. Back to back comparison with my 163 its smoother and revs much more freely just a bit down on bottom end. Plan to bore the old 125 barrel out to a 140 at some point.
Incidentally the 125 has a cable clutch +10mm on the arm but is lighter and better feel than the hydraulic magura on the 163.

can you PM me some details....
