    This Weekend

HOPE YOU DO BETTER THAN BRADFORD TRIAL LAST WEEKEND 110 oooooops !!!! I hope so too The winner dropped 40 which averages out at 1 dab per section so it wasn't an easy trial. Naturally, I've blamed the bike and spent a few quid on bearings, chain and sprockets so I should be able to get under 100 next time out PS Say hello if you see me, as I don't think I know you? EDIT Are you Paul Bailey? yep you guessed right did a lot better than me i give up after first lap, sick of dragging bike out for a 5 wasnt easy is an understatment, british championship springs to mind

  5. renthal R1 all the way never buy anything else had a regina snap and had to push bike for about 1 mile over moor
  6. ive had both the raptor hangers and pegs on my beta for over 2 years now and never had a problem with them excellent product, just ask Jarvis ,dabill & atom how good they are, im sure if you have broke them Raptor will either replace them of fix them for you, but this is the first time i have ever heard of them getting snapped.
  7. if no clutch allowed then i and lots of other riders would probably have a 5 on most sections, i cannot see how this would work as to get up a reasonable sized step i would need to use the clutch as do a lot of riders.
  8. i believe that michelin trials tyres are road legal but it does state not for road use in USA & CANADA, as far as im aware but i may be wrong they are legal within the EU.

  11. --> QUOTE(John.B @ Oct 12 2007, 07:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The difference this year is that Jarvis is on the four stroke for the first time. Will it get round ok? Having watched Graham at Skyrakes last weekend that bike is an absolute animal it was amazing to see him getting it up 6 ft steps with no run up at all
  12. I certainly agree with both points there 1 set of rules for all levels of trials would make it much easier on the observer and rider and point 2 goes without saying. my original post on sumping out was just an example because it has amazed me how many observers and riders were not aware that it is a '5' at any level of competion, there are lots of other examples where you can get a '5' or even what you think is a '5' which is actually not penalised, i was very surprised when i watched a DVD from the FIM of examples of different scenarios and the correct scores to be given. if i can find the disc again i will see if i can get it posted on the forums.
  13. I can guarantee it is nothing to do with that! The reason there is no observers is due to the lack of youth competitiors entering. it seems to be generally middle aged men turning up alone for a ride. not bringing anyone with them.(and rightly so) if we had more youth riders mums and dads(the taxi drivers) will often take an observors board. i dont understand what you mean (and rightly so) i am assuming you mean WHY SHOULD RIDERS BRING A OBSERVER if riders dont bring observers !! who is going to do this part of the trial ? maybe you need to find out why the youth entry has dried up and find away of getting them back into trials or maybe get them back to riding in your club trials.
  14. [] I can understand were you are coming from in that respect yes there are some observers who think they are GOD !!!! i always believe that if i have made a mistake or there is a possiblity i have made a mistake i would always give the rider the benefit of doubt. but not all will do this. I lost a trial by 2 marks when i looked at the results i had been scored a 5 on a section which i know i had cleaned but unfortunately the observer said he was correct.
  15. Our club have the basic's printed on the score card ie dab = 1 stop =1 and so on, but there is lots of other instances were penalties can be given according to the rule book, The point is HOW many observers & riders actually know the rules, i have seen riders not penalised when flicking the back round in a tight turn, the wheel has clearly gone outside the boundaries of the section and they have been given a clean. but the rider who cannot bounce and flick there bikes round are scored accordingly for footing through the turn. i know that a lot of riders like to have a good moan at the observers but how many of these riders actually have a go at observing ? I would like to see that if you ride in a club championship, you have to observer 1 round of the championship to be eligble for points.
  16. you would get some serious abouse from me if u deemed that a 5 and then when questioned you gave the reply....my decision is final!! an observer especially in your situation whereby you dont actually no the rules should be open minded. if several people are telling you the rules and you stick to the 'my decision is final attitude' then hows that fair. most trials at a decent level can be won and lost over a couple of marks and obsevers need to be aware of that! if an observor is unsure why not ask around for other opinions? usually because observors like to think they no it all!!! for the record i think you will find that it would be a 5 as you are not balancing the bike but are sat on the sump!! anybody can start a bike in that situation, but how many riders can do it when they are balancing on rocks ? i for one cannot and yes there is lots of riders who can, hence why the rules of trials were set out this way to make it fair for all abilities. if the observer is unsure of the penalty for a particular incident they should try and ask somebody else, but this isn't always practicle and they have to make a decision at the time. as for the statement that you would give the observer some serious abuse this is why clubs are always struggling to get people to observer in the first instance and if you did this to me i would have no hesitation in refusing to observe you through the section on any following laps of the trial, riders must remember that the observer is doing this because they enjoy the sport and do not expect to be abused.
  17. I know i will be probably opening a big can of worms and lots have been said on the subject but i am wondering how many people actually know the rules of observing !!!! or should i say the rules of trials I consider myself to be reasonably good at observing and have observed at the 3 hawkstone rounds and various other high level trials and have been surprised at the questions being asked regarding what is a 5!!! this is not just about observing at world round level but includes all levels of competion, for example if a rider is sumped out on a rock or other obsticle and stalls the engine, what is there score for this ? im not saying that i know all the rules, as in most trials there is something new what happens and you have to make a judgement on the spot and cannot always get this 100% correct all the time.
  18. in reply to the above yes i gave a five to a rider who was lying on his side against a rock at hawkstone this year, and yes the rider wasn't very happy about it!!! infact i learn't some new names and swear words about myself and my mother for the privelige of giving my time and effort to help with the running of the trial, but the rider who i will not name did come and apologise on his second lap. Its not an easyjob observing at any level of trials and no matter how well you think you can do the job, a lot of riders always think they can do better than you. and for the record i would have given him a clean as well, but as long as the observer scored every rider the same then its harsh but fair Ah see, by the time the rider got round to our section, I think he only leaned his knee on a rock so maybe an urban myth created in half a lap. I wasn't judging you, just asking. I knew someone would recognise the description. Two sides to every story. You should have yellow carded him, and he could have run through your whole family well there is always two sides to every tale, the only thing that didn't come into contact with the rock was his head, the bike & rider was lying on a large rock at an angle of about 30 deg, so i think most observers would have done the same as me. on his next lap he cleaned the section and i have to admit it was a very good ride, also saw him this weekend at skyrakes thankfully for him i was marshalling and not observing for a change or he mite have had a couple more '5's
  19. i think you can download them from the offical beta website there is a link from lampkins website i downloaded the rev 3 manual from there

    Tuning/trick Bits

I would contact John Lampkin probably your best bet for offical beta bling
  21. yes there was a presentation at the end of the trial to Steve, Very sad day for the british trials scene , unfortunately on his very last section he had a five within yards of the end flag not the best way he could have finished and he did exactly the same at Hawkstone in 2006 for his last ride in the world championships.
  22. in reply to the above yes i gave a five to a rider who was lying on his side against a rock at hawkstone this year, and yes the rider wasn't very happy about it!!! infact i learn't some new names and swear words about myself and my mother for the privelige of giving my time and effort to help with the running of the trial, but the rider who i will not name did come and apologise on his second lap. 23. i hope they dont start observing like this in the indoor series there will be some very high scores if as stated on the report that it was allowed for the riders foot to come into contact with the ground as long as his foot was still on the footrest why was he given a 1 ? I hope all the other observers were scoring the same as Mr Colley, but i dout it very much very harse.
  24. Thanks, I can't wait to get going - I'm pretty lucky in as much as I have access to my family's farm on my back doorstep, so can get regular practice in. I've been offered a "mint" Beta 270 and a GG300, but am now waivering - I like my teeth just as they are! Having trawled the ads the 200's seem a bit rare - it's encouraging to know that the 250 hasn't bitten you too hard. Good luck i woudn't advise you getting the beta 270 this will really scare you, way to powerfull for a beginner, at the most get a 250, but good luck with what ever you choose
  25. no not as savage as a motox bike but still are a handfull, i would see if you can test ride as many different bikes before you buy one GasGAS bikes are good bikes but need more maintenace than other makes, beta do a very good 200cc this mite be worth a look at
