  1. That means you had 14 sections that you averaged a two. Every event is different, sometimes new location and a different person setting the section. Also depends on your physical and age. Moving up can be great or the reason people quit. I only rode novice once, I came in with a two. I rode to compete back then, now I only ride for fun. Having fun is much more relaxing.
  2. Paul you would have to be more specific on the year to get real info.
  3. After watching this http://www.trialscentral.com/sub-headlines/16881-a-day-with-takahisa-fuijinami I would say Toni just puts more effort into his technique.
  4. http://www.shercousa.com/pdfs/sherco4strokestart.htm Here is a short video featuring Paxau showing the wrong way and proper way to start the Sherco 4 stroke. Notice that the short jabbing kicks do not work, but a slower methodical kick works with ease
  5. This is the time for a clear float bowl. You might not have enough fuel in the bowl.
  6. What did you recently do to the brakes or did you just go for a hard ride? Either way too much friction caused the fire.
  7. I had a similar problem yesterday on a bike that I rode the previous weekend that ran great. It would not start and when it did, ran a short time. Turned out the seat for the needle had come loose. I am not saying, that is your problem. You need to make sure it is getting fuel. Vent good, petcock good, Floats good, needle and seat. All carb vents clear. You get what I mean?
  8. For any brand in the USA, online shopping is very minimal. Most things have to be done the old fashioned way of speaking to a person. http://www.betausa.com/ is the importer. Favorite shops http://www.jackscycles.com/ RYP USA, Lewisport, Tryals Shop. Try American Beta dealer listing.
  9. Half the time when there is a rear brake issue, it is just worn pads. I just fixed a 2011 evo that really only needed pads. The owner bought a new master cylinder and new pads. He did a poor job of bleeding the system and compensated by adjusting the rod too tight. First ride out, the air bleed out and the rear caliper caught fire from to much friction.. So I replaced the pistons and seals and put the original master cylinder on. All is good now, it just needed new pads to begin with.
  10. You not using the clutch enough has nothing to do with oil. It is a technique, not a service item.
  11. If they put the steering stem for the Honda on the Mono yokes that would be a treat. I would be in for at least two sets.
  12. Seriously with all your issues (which actually is common with Betas) it sounds like you need to find a faithful mechanic. Good luck, as it`s really quite simple.
  13. Wow. it starts when you turn it off?
  14. No matter what it sounds like, the ty`s were just a jap bike. Shoulda, coulda, had an Ossa!
  15. A bunny hop is forward motion and unweighting. We would practice this jumping beer cans. You must mean a deer hop or flick turn with both wheels turned at the same time? My son does a two wheeled hop all the time. It is a great way to turn in a short area, it is risky and takes more energy. Some nasty sand sections this works amazingly well. He can do a 360 in a very short area, just very hard to stop after the last hop without a dab. (The risky part) A simple one wheel hop is more precise.
  16. If you have a good dealer, that is invaluable. Gasser it is!

    Leaky Carb

Bilks just gave you the proper link to fix the Beta mikuni. Billy T had the best fix in layman terms (And price). It`s easy to do and works. 90% of the Beta`s had this problem.
  18. A sticky clutch is proper for a Beta, other wise the factory would of fixed it a few decades ago.

    Evo 80 Revving Out

It also could be the condition of the exhaust. But I have seen bikes that a change of the filter does do this, especially on such a small engine.
  20. That`s the point. It would have to be a main stream build. Honda, Yamaha etc. But like the Honda TLR Reflex( Yamaha could have done the 225 motor) that could be stripped down to basics. Gas Gas brought it in, a cheap under powered motor that was not street legal in most places. How many Gas Gas dealers have showrooms displaying models to hundreds of buyers? The Japs are missing the boat, used trials bikes are bought up fast in the USA due to Endurocross.
  21. Any bike from the 90`s feel too heavy now!
  22. Any shaft will wear. Just did a 2010 Evo yesterday.
  23. We need more of a middle ground between the last two opinions. Broken frames and unreliable engines is not progress. Neither is adding weight to meet set standards. What we really need is a bike to get more new riders involved in our dying sport. Maybe a tlr230, electric start, disc brakes and street legal. Something that might be sold by the thousands, but not just for trials riders.
  24. Page 9 of the parts book as the pdf was loaded page one, twelve, eleven etc. Mark , your not riding the Texas round at Sid`s new ranch? 12,000 plus acres of trials land.
