    Factory 300

Seems like these have been very popular, interested in any comparisons with less exotic evo's, especially 290's. Heard didn't come with the usual Uk market flywheel weight, wondered if can be retro fitted ?
  2. Hopefully an isolated incident, was there some explanation or mitigation circumstance? Otherwise there were plenty of time penalties dished out, I know I got some, but it was fair. Similarly a mate pressed on to avoid penalties ruining a good ride, however probably suffered a little for doing so, as with observing judgement as long as the rules were applied consistently, no problem with it. Section wise this (imho) this was about the best laid out for some time on this event, top job MM. However quite a slow / longish section early in the event, the first group only a mile from the start on the route card, meant everybody was still bunched up, combined with having to go back to the observer to get punched meant delays. Likewise the mud slot at Ible had the same effect.
  3. First and foremost it WAS a really good enjoyable day, clearly big effort by the clubs and the observers, Well done. Didn't notice any issue about what flags to ride, tbh can only remember it being two routes anyway. Maybe this was more of a prob for early runners. Did have a problem with route markings missing after the ford, but otherwise thought it was great. Surely the results will just be amended to reflect the correct application of the regs for the event, i.e. missing sections will be scored as either a '5' or '10', or protest per nsc.
  4. Likewise, white Gaerne Balance from a certain Stroud based establishment, in Euro 44. Previously had Hebo's in the same size and where super comfy, but had become less than supportive, sort of "sagged" around the ankle. Gaerne were snug to say the least, but have given a little, I took out the inner sole which helped a tad, but now they are fine with sealskinz and very comfy and no sign of sagging. I think they were waterproof but have damaged that flappy membrane in the boot opening.
  5. This year was Cornwall back to back with the Lancs and Bootle, so wouldn't think travel there is too different to the Bemrose cost wise. Bemrose I imagine is constrained by local farming / lambing etc. Losing the devon double header for the Normandales is unfortunate, as that makes it a good value weekend too. Has the Westmoreland Kefty Watson event been used before in the series ? (quite new, and not heard of it)
  6. I guess you mean a championship for RAF riders across the country, based on your details. One approach you might consider used to be employed on the European Rally championship (maybe it still is ?) - is to have 'co-efficents' for each event. Forget the terminology, it sounds too complicated, but its just a multiplier based on the severity of the event. i.e. SSDT & Scott might be co-efficient 100, a Novogar 50, Normandale 25, centre 15, club 10 or whatever. So 20 points for a win on a (using 20, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9 etc) Normandale would be 500, but so would 10 points for a sixth on a Novogar. Actually now I've started its interesting to think what the co-efficients would be ... hhmm, I need to get out.
  7. was thinking the same thing the other day, googled this: http://www.trialsuk.co.uk/blog I guess the caveats in there say it all ... Interesting changes in the Traditionals if its legit, especially the Bemrose
  8. I just had this very problem, and solved it courtesy of your local parts stockists in Church Stretton, Iris half link (plus another split link as you say) - but had to remove a link first. With 10 - 42 gearing then the chain then is spot on, effectively 101 links.
  9. Couldn't agree more, fantastic event, and all the best on the day. But by not having old'uns on moderns there will be at least 20 or more entries that won't be there, who could of ridden exactly the same trial.
  10. Dougie's comeback ride has obviously been one of many highlights of this year's event, but I was wondering does anybody know what was the problem with Dougie's bike on Monday that caused such a loss of time ? - saw a vid on youtube of him trying to kick it into life, then wheeling it away, Then what happened ? presumably he carries a spare plug, wonder how it was fixed, whatever it was.
  11. I think you have go to have dual routes. For an event to thrive outside of a championship you have to cater for a broad group of abilities, Bemrose etc, Cearly date is key also. I'm suprised you withdrew the Trevor Hunt Trophy from the Classic series, it was so well received (if a bit tight on time) - suprised it couldn't of been eased enough for a straight forward non championship route within the regs of the series. I would of thought being part of the series helps with the reputation of the event and therefore entries. Still at least its still running. Good luck !
  12. Wonder did either of you (PHB & Dabster) try MSM to see if they are listing it yet ?
  13. Did mine through MCE, EVO wasn't on their standard machine proposal list but they had some mechanism to accept it, its listed as an EVO on the policy docs. Would be very interest to see if MSM are listing it, ideally would switch to them on renewal as they explicitly offer event cover too.
  14. Redditch's Christmas Pud trial this weekend in Midland centre if you feel like heading onto the road ...
  15. Northallerton is new to the series if I'm not mistaken, is it an existing event being added to the calendar, anybody know anything about it?(Good to see a Yorkshire event included, even if its not Richmond ;-) - isn't the Blue Bar a classic type event ?)
  16. In Surrey there is a Thames club star group trial at Bagshot Heath just off the A30 (The Maultway) near Camberley / Frimley
  17. Is that the case for all 2009 Shercos from the start of the model year, or just the ones that were heavily discounted by BVM and Appleyard from the middle of this year ? All the 2009 290's had the new spec motor and suspension ?

    280 Vs 300

Hi Diligaf, I did a little looking into this topic myself, trying to find the ideal clubman friendly big bore two stroke as I don't like reving the engine too much. First up I think you should ignore the '280' is an animal tag that maybe was the case for the first 280 pro's in 2002 / 2003. I put a 2007 280 top end on my 2009 250 expecting it to be like a motocrosser, however, I felt it was quite mellow at the bottom, not too different from the 250, whereas the 300 pulls much stronger right off the bottom, but more linearly as the revs build. I think this behaviour is one of the biggest difference. Like all GG's they will rev to the moon. I found the 280 does spin up a little in soft conditions, so am trying a head spacer to see if that helps. I have continued to use a 10T front sprocket and black throttle I had on the 250. As similar previous threads have indicated a flywheel weight seems to be a must on the 300, it would be interesting to know if the JST team members run with one. Looking back through the parts lists online it looks like they barrel and head (and therefore porting specs) last changed on the 280 and 300 for the 2007 series models, I'm not too sure about ignition, but from 2006 onwards I believe they all had the 'sun' and 'rain' settings, which appear to impact mid-high revs more than anything else.
  19. Couldn't agree more, fantastic event, only road event I've done this year and glad it was this one. (enjoyed the free breakie also) Thoroughly deserves its place in this championship. Would agree with Woody with respect to the 'b' route, was thinking it would be like last years, and for personal preference would of liked it if there were few more diversions from the main route, I just hope that the great events that make up this championship remain accessible to lesser clubman.
  20. Is there a list of riders and numbers ?
  21. I know that at championship levels 125's are now mandatory for youths, I believe 13 and up, however for non championship youth club trials, AMCA, ACU or YMSA, can 14 year olds run a 250 ? (as I believe they used to) thanks
  22. Only one thing, GP4 Escort BDG at 9000rpm in the woods ... still breathtaking Unfortunately this year's WRC has lost a little interest for me, Loeb is probably the all time greatest, but I think the sport is lacking something these days, have even watched more F1 !
  23. One other I would add is North Hants Motor Club (AMCA also), club trial every month (3'rd Sunday) and very p65 friendly weather proof terrain (MOD land) in an around Farnborough. Think you will find more like minded p65 types there. Keep an eye on TMX regs. You have probably heard of the Talmag trial (Talmag club I think), a "must do" for most p65 enthusiasts at Hungry Hill in Aldershot, last weekend in Jan as I recall.
