  1. There's also a dmple on the end that conforms to the ball bearing if I'm not mistaken.
  2. Originally a reliability trial, one point for footing (on hill sections) was introduced in 1931. Does anyone know when a contemporary scoring system was introduced and when the emphasis on reliability was dropped?
  3. I haven't heard of this being an issue with Shercos but have you checked for a sheered woodruff key?
  4. I've owned both and enjoyed them equally. Both had virtually every mod available. Suspensions can be set up to perform pretty much the same and they have similar weights. The major difference is power and how it's delivered. The Fantic motor is much closer to a modern bike and delivers substantially more power than the TL. That doesn't mean I preferred it to the TL, it just needs to be ridden differently. Set up right ($), they can both be very competitive bikes.
  5. Then there's these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1228477081/ultimate-tether?click_key=2595cfe7b9f3f4deeb43685556b3a86c0c44ad1d%3A1228477081&click_sum=f929a5f8&ref=shop_home_feat_3 . The magnet in the bead works keeps it from dangling around when off the bike. He also offers these caps: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1195989353/logoed-kill-switch-cap?click_key=5e2539f92b3190e4f857cf10f7c0589d30891fc3%3A1195989353&click_sum=b3be6e7a&ref=shop_home_feat_1 .
  6. Here's mine. Wireway rack with three muffin fans - two facing up (one under the helmet, one blowing through two PVC pipe sections supporting the gloves), one facing down for the boots. Powered by a timer. I set it for four hours and forget it.
  7. Not to mention long term storage. Fuel with ethanol seems to "go bad" three to four times faster than ethanol free.

    Battery charging

This was discussed here (starting about half way down the page): https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/calling-out-trs-owners-questions-things-to-share.1288338/page-224
  9. I thought people might get a kick out of this US based catalog from 1977. Prices (USD) appear to have gone up a bit since then. https://newenglandtrials.com/thetryalsshope/
  10. I'm not sure the material makes much of a difference. If designed correctly, a different pipe might improve scavenging and have a slight cooling effect.
  11. Now there's some working hands! Here's the most useful thread: https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/calling-out-trs-owners-questions-things-to-share.1288338/page-19#post-35746434 . "Hoss Cartright" is Jim Snell, the US importer.
  12. There have been reports of gas tank vent valves sticking. The valve is in the gas cap: Loosen the cap next time it happens and listen for air rushing in. Some riders remove the ball and install a conventional check valve on the end of the vent tube.
  13. It's difficult to see in the video but are you missing the outer circlip on the starter shaft? Here's a Jim Snell video that covers the "Pro": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7disOibvEU . I'm not sure if it's the exact same bike but it may help.
  14. I believe this is the sealing band technowaldo is referring to: https://www.thehellteam.com/new-rim-band-with-valve.html They can be a pain but seal OK if done right. Rimlocks won't be necessary if you use a tubeless tire.
  15. Regarding the carb issue, I seem to remember two things that might apply. There was a siphoning issue with some 2T vent lines. I'm not sure it applies to 4Ts but it's worth searching the Beta forum just in case. They also mention an adjustment that limits float travel. I'm aware that the 4t has a different carb but it might something to look at as it can cause the float needle to stick.
  16. If this is in response to my post, I agree completely with what you say about body english and holding pressure. I was only commenting about observations I've made of some top riders when riding between sections. They seem to lock their legs over smooth terrain. I always assumed it was to conserve energy. I've seen top US riders do it and, most notably, Raga at a couple US World Rounds.
  17. Slightly bent and at the ready. One interesting thing I've noticed watching top riders is most lock their legs (when possible) while riding the loop - to conserve energy I presume.
  18. Many of you may already know but this is just Frank's hobby. He pays the bills with stuff like this latest project: Frank's a true artist in metal.
  19. Man that looks sharp! The recess on the mag cover is begging for a logo.
  20. This is from an 03' manual: The translation to English leaves a lot to be desired. Basically, you remove a left side case screw below the shift lever. It should have a triangle above it. Make sure you don't miss the sealing washer.
