  1. Yep, I'm there on the Mighty Pampera...
  2. Thanks for posting that. I was riding (No 16) - enjoyable day, although the last speed session in the rain was testing.
  3. Photos from the French Easter 3 day are here Indre 08 As always a well run laid back do , but jolly cold & snowy this year. Michael Brown won from Jan Cardinels & Jack Challoner. Results etc on the clubs web page Trial Club La Chatre I have some vid of the Top Trial team boys - hopefully on You Tube later.

    Instead Of Amal?

Pics of the Mikuni on my 348....

    Instead Of Amal?

The mikuni is jetted: Main 95, pilot 20. No markings on needle jet. Thats how it came - I can't comment on how this runs as its being fettled before I give it a bit of a test.... The carb has an oval bore, in the slide area and ends up a 30mm going into engine. I have some pics - I'll add later. As pub beckons right now!

    Instead Of Amal?

My 348 came with a Mikuni fitted. Haven't had time to give it a good run yet, still fettling & last month was taken up with a non stop run of "must ride" trials! I could have a look & get pics & jetting if you like. One day I'd like to try a modern carb on this - Keihin or Delorto VHST. Both I've used on other modern bikes with good results.
  7. Well said., Woody. Two great trials - huge thanks to all involved. Pleased to find the weather was well organised this year too. Any results online for Bootle?
  8. It all depends on what at level you contest..........All you really need are boots & knee pads. Anything else will make you hot (& bald.....)
  9. Another question - both these bikes have twin plug heads. I assume the centre plug is the "correct" one. Would a decompressor have been fitted in the other plughole? Is a decompressor of any use - other than for making a great farty noise?

    Reeds

I've tried em all - stifffest were some Jordi Clerch reeds. Tried in a beta 250. Flattened power so much it was like a weedy 200! Boyesens are the only dual stage reed, so good at low rvs & high revs too.
  11. I made a tool - use the spacer as a pattern, drives out oposite bearing. Some use expanding bolt (see local builder) insid sleve, but that sounds mesy.
  12. Yes it seems its a 348 motor - cast in intake stub. It has the one inch longer swingarm too, compared to the earlier MRR 348. So looks like a bit more mix 'n' match is in order.
  13. Lean or rich, you don't need to know. Set it by feel! Set fast tickover. turn screw until you find where engine speeds up slighly, thats the spot. However if you then check number of turns out from closed and its either half a turn or 3 turns or more then a diferent size pilot is needed. Set this up on a mild day - it'll be diferent when the weathers really cold
  14. Great info guys, thanks Its engine no 51M14964. I'll check intake stub etc later. Were the air valve fork tops standard? Any ideas on the correct pressure? Ta, Mike
  15. I recently got a couple of 348 monts. This one is registered 1980. I've not found an original pic of 1 1980, if it is a '80 348 even. Chassis looks like a 349, but what do I know! Chassis no: 51M17604. Its got a Mikuni carb too. Was that standard in those days? And some sort of air forks. So, knowledgeable twinshock gurus - is this a last 348 or some sort of mongrel? I've also got a 1977 Rathmell replica in similar, but slightly worse condition. It's mot'd & was taxed. I'm probably going to sell that once I've given it a look over.
  16. Great trial, but a little easy for the over 50s class. Maybe we needed that rain.... I trust I'm not alone in thinking most of the 050s could cope with the harder route sections, particularly if the whole series is intended to be a little easier - as the progamme notes suggested. It was highly entertaining to watch Matt Neale on that big old Ariel in the penultimate group - the garlic woods. Likewise Messrs Whiffen, Hick & Koch on those twinshocks. Getting a better Pre65 entry shows the easier route idea works though.
  17. Here's another - mind you I'm not sure these are all from 82.......I was up there watching a few times in the 80s. Eventually gave up taking pics as I seemed to miss too much action.
  18. Not sure if this will upload...........I was there too. Scanned a couple of pics ages ago to check how it looks. A bit small.
  19. When I worked on a TYZ recently, I checked with Scorpa - and Yamaha prices were the same........Obviously they are all Yam bits really!
