  1. If you (shutty123) (or was it your mate) has recently fitted a titanium front pipe then this should not be carboned up. The caustic soda, or the brake fluid suggestions are meant for the front steel pipe only, not the aluminum silencer. There is a video of feeding heat and oxygen to the rear muffler (off the bike mounted in a purpose built cage), but while the oil burns off so does the packing, and it is extremely hard to control the temperature to stop the aluminum from melting. Safer method by far is to cut a trap door through the inner/wheel side, to remove and replace the oil sodden packing. Currently looking for picture to better explain.
  2. As resident guru Señor Copemech says the stator backing plate has a notch on the top slotted mounting hole to line up with the top of three crankcase mounts. Then double check the flywheel slides on nicely over the crankshaft woodruff key. The marks on the perimeter of the flywheel and ignition cover sealing edge of the crankcase are only for dynamic timing, but you shouldn't need to fetch out the strobe ...if it was working before the flywheel was removed.

  5. Do you mean the chain tensioner pad 450-08-00-6260, or the swingarm pivot protective slipper pad 450-09-00-5250 that Lee was advertising?
  6. ..with the moratorium on pork pies over, this (in)famous SSDT rider could resist the temptation of poutine no longer! The look on Andy's face says.....(new caption contest) Erics revenge
  7. Tough crowd... Isn't that the same climb Steve Colley rode up without his front wheel and forks, and then rode down all on the rear wheel, with the rock climber on back holding on for dear life? ..and you tell that to the kids today and they won't believe you!

  10. 300 = 249.4cc. 74mm bore x 58mm stroke. 240 = 212c.c 69mm bore x 56.5mm stroke. I know Lee has lots of tricks up his 'sleeve' but haven't heard of a 240 barrel on a 300 engine. (Well Steve we would have to use FedEx to get the 301 barrel and head to you in time to put under the Xmas tree, but Santa is all out of base gaskets ..centre yes, ignition yes, inlet manifold yes, but no base gaskets. Are you handy with the scissors and a Frosties box?)
  11. Still have a few brochures left if anyone needs one. Cheers
  12. "After the first 300 Km. it is absolutely necessary to substitute the gearbox oil with 500cc. of CASTROL EP 80W/80."......
  13. T&R Products of Eden, New York. Contact Jim and Sandra Renzi. 716 992-9842 They do a plastic encapsulated, 2nd layer carbon sheet, pressure sensitive score card 3" x 10" They also do all kinds of enduro arrows. Jim was an Enduro rider before an accident left him paralyzed Excellent product - highly recommended - our club has used them for years.
  14. M16 x 1.0 (very fine) left hand thread, although the fuel tap should come with the adapter collar to convert from the lht of the tap to the right hand thread of the tank.
  15. The 305 piston had 3 holes in triangular layout with bottom 1/3 of piston cut away in arch shape. Newer models were also faced off at the side with a shorter gudgeon/wrist pin, making some 305's a lot noisier than others The one in the photo doesnt look relieved at sides or on the back face - hard to tell. Your milling machine should make short work of the profile, but have you also considered the inside width between the two piston journals dependending on your small end bearing length. 115 euoros doesnt seem a bargain? Good luck but dont let evil bay bite you just cos you got a deal on that snazzy Caballero!
  16. 86kg (189lbs). 1984 - thought they were 85/86?
  17. Make sure the power valve is opening as the revs increase - Fantic built a reputation for extracting a lot of power from small capacity engines so you should have lots of hill climbing potential. What condition is your condition in with regard to cylinder compression?
  18. 500cc/ml Good luck finding the Castrol Hypoy 80W80 that Fantic recommends (recommended?), but readers of this forum seem to agree that automatic transmission fluid works well - just change it more often. Someone else probably has a favourite, and it also depends on what your local Fantic dealer carries! Post a photo when you are done for all to enjoy - have a 301 brochure here somewhere if you need one.

    Flywheel Nut

Do you have the original fly nut to measure the thread size/pitch, or if not then can you take dims off crankshaft theads? Seem to remember it was fine pitch but large dia? M14 x1.0 but a very narrow nut for its size. Likely a part No.250-44-00-5200 if anyone out there has a cross reference to the sizes. ..Confirmed M14 x 1.0. Will check local metric hardware suppliers to see if available locally.
  22. Will see if I cant fire up the Fantic scanner this w/e - unless you have a microfiche reader? Did you need any page in aprticular to get you by, or the whole parts book?
