Thanks, outside half seems to have no connection to the inner baffled part from memory, maybe the perforations were completely full of carbon !

Thanks woody & zisko62, I have a spare box and was toying with the idea as I have to open it anyway to fix loose baffles. zisko62, any idea of other modifications to the bike ? Think its a late frame judging by the footrest position ? (Are those Gas Girlings, I never particularly liked them.) I had an ignition cover welded successfully many years ago, unfortunately the company no longer trades, but it is possible.

If you have checked points and condensor, swap coil, then stator. Some ignition problems sound/feel like carb/fuel.
