You really need a low pressure tyre gauge, and set the pressure at 5 lbs (or 6 for IRC)

Is it not a petrol screw, rather than an air screw ? ie out to richen the mixture.
Try oiling the air filter a bit more, crude but works.

I got some for a BSA from a cycle shop a while ago, think they were bottom bracket bearings.

4/5 for rear is good, except if it's an IRC, in which case 6psi as they have a very soft carcass. IME
