Take the bash plate off and see if the crack narrows, a bent plate might be part of the problem. Hopefully.

This was at some stage bound to have happened, as the members running the Club, affectionately we hope, known as ‘the last of the Summer Wine Group’ are finding it difficult to keep up with every day happenings.
The Club are now desperately looking for persons to take over part if not all the running of the Club for it to survive."

I got these fork springs from In Motion Bultaco for my Marzocchi forked SWM, so depending on your weight should be fine. (13stone) Defiantly better than 20/30 yr old ones !

Or you might find it easier to get a channel over the sprockets as there isnt much room for a straight edge.

Yes join black cables together to miss out old condensor, use existing black wire that comes out grommet at back of cylinder and goes through plastic sheath, where it would previously just gone to coil join in new condensor, as you say mounted by coil. Job done.
(and make sure wire by flywheel cant touch anything)
