  1. Bikes slightly rich will; resist stalling slightly better, and will have better pickup when you open the throttle quickly. BUT will tend to oil a plug - especially true if you use cheep oil - so use a platinum plug. My 2c worth.
  2. Did I miss read it.... They have new frames?
  3. Oh, and I opened up how the air flows under the mudguard to the air filter and removed some plastic so air moves freely. The air filter rests on the air box. Dumb really. I put some small square rubber strips in the air box to keep air flowing between the filter and air box.
  4. I raised the needle all the way up to richer the mid range an throttle pick up. Huge improvement!
  5. I cut the last 25mm off the pipe and removed the final baffle plate. Mistake - made no difference to performance. Mistake - fecking noise was awfal. So I welded it back on. Happy again.
  6. I remember reading an article from an ex GP rider commenting on one riders inability to be competitive. Summary was he wasn't getting low enough / forward enough / off the bike enough. It made a lot of sence when he compared it to other riders podium placings. Basically that is how they HAVE to ride the new bikes. Foot out is a bit w**k though.... Even if it does get 10kg a bit lower to the ground.
  7. What a load of bollocks. Every bike is different and some need a tweak ......
  8. Fit them with some silicon bathroom sealant.
  9. I've tried to find an alternative but found nothing suitable(and I have all the engineering contacts). Just buy one from the Beta man
  10. Should be dry so check the bolt torque
  11. Great bike. You'll not get anywhere near the bikes ability for years. Great bike. Couple of points... You have an early example of the bike. Some had to have a kick starter kit fitted. Some needed a hot start mod done. Some including mine get a rattle valve system and I question the quality of valve guides. The bike is easy to start. Kick.....it........sloooooooowly! Get a jitsie fuel mixture screw fitted - take care of the micro size oring within the hole! 2.5-3 turns out. Raise the needle all the way to the top - bottom clip groove. It makes the lean midrange go away and puts a goodly bit back into the midrange power. Check how many miles the bike has done and get the rear shock rebuilt (even just fresh oil) and new fork oil.....if it has had regular use. Set the front and rear to 1/3 sag when you are stood on the bike for the best bike ride. Ralphy
  12. Everyone asleep mate, when the sun comes up you'll get an answer.
  13. Clarky There appears to be a few people telling you that you are doing it wrong, and they are a having a handbag fight. The way I read it you are doing it just fine. I had a 270 Beta that would do the same. Just try the adjusting the ignition
  14. Yes that is it. The slots allow the ignition pickup to move. Move it lots try 4-5mm to see if the problem goes away. If it does go back a bit to get what you are happy with. Phoowey to all the OMG whats wrong.....Just try it mate you won't wreck anything. Oh and use an impact driver to loosen the screws
  15. Thats news to me. Remove the flywheel. The ignition pickup is mounted with 3 screws and - normally - the plate has slotted holes. Rotate the plate clockwise to retard the ignition. I think.
  16. Retard the ignition timing a little 1-2mm at the plate clamp. What is the spark plug like?
  17. DO NOT change the carb. Beta spent years testing and setting it up....you will fail. All the other Betas are fine. Find the fault with yours. Remove and check the carb rubber bellows.
  18. Hi mate.. Don't be upset but it will take time. I have great throttle control now , but it was practice every day for years to get it.
  19. Oh how I miss the mud, I get sick of putting a clean bike away mate. Not
  20. Yes you will need the oring, and yes it will make the bike sick without it. Check the end of the Jitsie air screw has the tapered needle still attached - mine stayed in the carb when it broke off.... so I got a replacement. I run mine about 2.5-3 turns out. The bikes are shipped from the factory lean in the midrange to pass emissions standards. I, and a heap of others, have raised the needle right up (put the clip on the bottom notch) for an improved bike. Do the same mate and see how it runs.... it will have a heap more power. Ralphy
  21. Set the shock and forks to 1/3 sag when you are stood on the bike. Get a friend to help and check it a few times. Lube the swing arm bearings and head bearings. Front and back shocks have Rebound damping. Set these to take the springy or bouncy feel off the suspension action. Now adjust either direction to your preference but remember a slower rebound gives slightly more traction. If the rebound adjuster makes no difference then shock is due a service. GET THE SHOCK serviced anyway as the bike has a few years under it. Ralphy
  22. Your bike is 4 or 5 years old I'd say you should lift the barrel and check the piston and rings. Put new rings in. Trials boys tend to neglect air filters so check piston skirts for gouging and wear. Don't be surprised if it is fine. Polish the top of the piston and cylinder head to a shine for a clean running bike. Shush some petrol through the exhaust to rid the bike of excess oil. Mate, trials is all about traction. Get the shock serviced and put some fresh oil in the forks... You will feel a huge payback!!
  23. Oh yeah that sounds correct. Right on the money. Use this guys advise. ... Mate..... Why are you asking one bike is 6 Years younger!!!!! Go with the new bike.
