    Fantic

On Sunday i had the good fortune of testing two other identical 240's. In comparison both had a far better rear brakes. Th drum on mine is scored which is to be expected for a bike of this age, so what can i do as the shoes are in good order? My clutch has the arm extended. I find it bites over two thirds its action and i'd like to reduce the bite to a little more on and off? I was also told if the bike was built after 1982 it will be road registered? If this is the case how can i request and log book and would i need to prove ownership and past bills of sale to prove my true ownership?
  2. I like to ride comps as well as practise. To ride comps i'm beginning to pick the better ones, which i know from the previous years gone by. I do remember the not so good events and am beginning to stay away from them. The CofC needs to be a vastly knowledgable individual. This knowledge will lend itself to knowing the land, riders and changes in weather conditions. I think a CofC should be of middle class standards so they can judge slightly harder and slightly easier sections. The CofC needs to learn from scores at the end of the trial, if the worst rider in each class lost around say no more than 65-marks you'd be close to making a perfect trial because the winner in each class may finish on 2-marks. fuel cost are a consideration but if the trial has a good reputation with a variety of well thought out sections then people will travel to the trial. Lastly, people go practise riding for fun, a trial should be fun not some kind of mission for each section to stop riders from clean it. The majority of trials riders are in the 30's+ and therefore with families etc....make you trials easy they've got to go to work on Monday.
  3. What about Pre67 bikes aren't they loud and were they riding the land before the lastest four strokes appeared? The 05 Sherco 4t is quiet, but the newer 07 and 08 are a lot louder when opened up. I heard an 08 blast down a track to a section a couple of weeks back i thought it was a MX thumper. The Beta 4t is quiet and so is the Scorpa. The baby Scorpa 163cc is very quiet and if all the manufacturers matched this bikes noise level we wouldn't be worrying about noise.
  4. Perce, I'm having a few problems myself and now i'm semi confident i know why i keep having timing out problems. Try this: 1) Shut down your computer 2) Switch it on and press 'F8' 3) Select Safe Mode with Networking. (the loading will be in dos format) 4) Click on Internet Explorer (or similar) 5) Type in the address of a website your being timed out from or having problems with. Should you find your computer is no longer timing out or having problems i'm 95% sure you've a problem with your firewall. My 95% assumption is starting in SaFe Mode with Networking you have completely turned off your computers firewall. Your next step should this solve the problem is to update your Firewall settings and in my case i've Vista Home, so an email to Bill Gates will be next on the agenda. For you guy's who are computer experts does anyone know how/who i can contact to upgrade my Vista firewall?
  5. Snap we have the same set up with Virgin. Do you have PC Guard installed? ......after downloading it from the virgin website it wouldn't install. I phoned Virgin and went through the endless "press 1 for broadband; press 2 of TV etc..." to finally end up speaking to someone with a strong Indian accent. He said because i'm using my set top box (with the modem built in) PC Guard would not work and they would send me a free modem start pack with router and leads. I installed the new modem and cable as per the instructions and removed the old cable from my set top box to the back of my router. When i questioned how the modem in my downstairs lounge connects to my computer upstairs they said it will work and to not use the cable.....and guess what it didn't!!.....so i re-used the old ethernet cable between my new modom and my existing router and it now works. The connection speed has increased from 2 meg to 4meg with the new modem, the only problem now is the modem keeps loosing connection, which the old set top box connection never did.....and i've got an old dial-up modem working on both my computers which never lets me down.... so fustrating
  6. i've not set tappets on a single but have done tappit adjustments on a few 4 cyclinder road bikes and agree with big wigs comments. TDC as mentioned can be found several ways and i have used these in the past when the plugs are removed: visual inspection (if poss). Finger over plug hole to feel the compression stroke as the engine is turned over by hand. long screw driver when flywheel is indicating TDC by putting a screw driver down the spark plug hole and turn the engine by hand slowly to see which way the screw driver goes (rise or fall)......best of luck
  7. Still waiting myself and thanks for the info. This is a purely speculation could Scorpa be seeking to sell more 4t's rather than 2t's?.....i don't the ratio of 4t to 2t's sold world wide but there are more 07 2t's in my area than 4t's.....There must be a point when Scorpa (and perhaps other manufacturers) will drop there 2t's and perhaps this is the beginning....i hope not its odd the supply of the Scorpa is delayed i've never heard this before.

    Handlebar Height

The more you bend your legs the less of a reach you'll have to the bars. So, if you don't want to bend your legs so much then fit higher bars.
  9. I'm waiting for my bike to turn up only just bought it last week. If you get a chance tell us about your first ride and if you can add a few piccy's tops. I used to have an 03 SY and the only thing i disliked about it was i had to stoop/lean down a bit more than i was used to compared to a Gas Gas pro. Its a shame Scorpa hasn't followed gas gas with their new rear wheel design (like the montesa).
  10. Very good chance you've taken the win i've not heard of anyone who scored less than 3 marks - a well done to you if you have won. Could you post on TC when your in Italy???..... I'm mainly interested in all the British lads rides. .....couple of pics of me from motorbiketrials website
  11. Excellent trial but no results as of yet. Now, i'm not one for blaming the bike because it was my fault but I've to admit i made a stupid mistake of removing a return spring which stopped the rear brake from locking on when the brake was applied. The spring and cable tie slotted over the the brake peddle. Yes, i'm a twit i didn't know what it was for but still removed it....so I'm expecting to lose about 35marks in total. I had four 5's two of which were caused by my not knowing about the brake problem until later on in the trial and the bike stalling, I can also add to them 5's about another 5 marks when i was trying to release the rear brake whilst unsuccesfully balancing at the same time......Now, i did have some very good rides and on the rocks the bike was very good to ride i expect my true score to have been around 20marks and on a twinshock not that bad. We've a centre event this weekend i may ride it on Inters, are you riding?
  12. I there a European Classic Trial at Ashdon, 28-29 June and can anyone enter?site
  13. I can't say i've looked at the mounts, yes they do pivot but would need a massive side hop to move them once they've settled i guess. (not sure what brg means). Tomorrow the Fantic will be ridden in anger at a centre trial, one route for the whole event, fingers crossed i do well. The sections will be challenging and the Fantic needs to be in tip top condition the Trik Shox's have made a noticeable improvement they will improve my result. Details of how the new shock's work, design i really don't know how to answer i'm not technically minded, but what i can say is riding the bike on my drive they have transformed the backend from a saggy spring (i'm 14.5 stone) to a nicely damped rear with a lot of travel. My old Falcons were atleast 10 years old and the bike was not on a centre stand when i bought they were also set on max adjustment.... I'm sure a new set of Falcon's would be tops for you and me - visually the Trik Shox's work on the bike and so far are a massive improvment. The beta went into my local dealer this morning and i've decided to splash the cash on a new 08 Scorpa SY250R. Gas Gas's do not suit my riding style, nor do the Sherco's. Beta and Scorpa and very similar and no offence to Beta if not happy with the cracked frame its a crap design. I've owned a new 03 Scorpa SY250R and it was a brilliant bike then the new one appears to have improved a reasonable amount since 2003, so i'm expecting a very good, reliable, well built scorpa.....and my 03 scorpa progressed my riding by a noticable amount. I must get along to classic trial, the second week in July i'm working at a club event as an official (blast) but its only once a year. At the end of the month i'm on call so thats another week lost. May have to take a few days off work when the scorpa arrives.....Guy's any events after the second weekend of july which are twinshock you'd recommend i'm all ears.

    Nazi Bunker

really interesting but 137 pages is getting silly.
  15. Defo, and what a great bunch of enthusiasts you and many other guys are. You won't beleive how cheesed off i'm with my 07 Beta Rev3 i've a major problem in the form of crack between the sub-frame petrol tank. petrol is leaking from the bike and it wasn't caused by a major accident, more the bike fell over. My main bike and trials are still modern sections but the beta may be evicted from the happy family in its place a scorpa sy 2t is looking to become a new family member. Did i mention the 240 has just been fitted with a set of sexy Trik Shox's. Top of the range i might add and what an improvement from the old falcons (no gas in the falcons). I've taken the fast action throttle of the beta just to see what its like ride this Sunday. suspension on the fantic is first class, power is excellent, brakes ummmmm dog poo.
  16. I didn't used agree with the 'over biked' theory because i used to ride a 300 gas gas, 290 Sherco at novice/inter level. I found running then a higher gear (forth gear) would calmed the bike down and it would blast me out of the section. However, there is no skill in riding higher gears just for the sake of not getting stuck in mud, a higher gear meant fast running in the sections, which didn't normally land me in trouble on novice/inter sections; but as i progressed more technical skill was required. So i now ride a 250 rather than 290 or 300. If i were slimmer i'd ride a 200, but a 250 is perhaps even to much because i find it difficult to not ride using the clutch.
  17. The original pegs still fit, photo's were taken after win......next win will be a centre level when the new shocks arrive.....but the big test comes this weekend with the centre team trial. This event has experts of british national level riding one route which i'll be riding. The course will be a good intermediate centre level so the experts should go clean. i want to shame as many guys on modern bikes as i can .....competitive i can and will be! .....i rode my rev3 on sunday at a club event and hand on heart the fantic is helping me with my riding the beta with balance and hopping, both require a little more effert on the Fantic (not a lot) but this little extra effort is rewarding me. I've got my original carb for the Fantic but its definately not going back on the bike.
  18. After a bit of a late night i found the problem. When i was connecting the multi meter to the pos and neg cables on the batteries i was very slightly moving /pulling on a connector block, this had already come loose. The connector block was not sitting fully home but was only slightly not connected. I only noticed it when i began tracing the power from the charger through the cables. When i put the pos and neg wires back on the batteries i was breaking the circuit and no charge was going to the batteries. My son is five he doesn't quite understand why the bike was not running but i guess he thought i was being nasty when i said he couldn't go riding. He did understand after i explained there was a problem with the bike. On a slightly different note i see Oset have upgraded the 16 bike with bigger batteries and electric motor. Does anyone know if the batteries will fit in the older bike?
  19. Hello Lee, I've a OKO 26mm fitted to my 240 and its great. All i had to do was plug and play (so to speak) i've not altered any of the settings/jetting nor moved the needle. What the bike ran like before i fitted is hard to say as she ran very bad and was a pig to start. I had my first trial on her last week and won the novice/twinshock class beating all the modern, twinshocks and pre67 bikes. The bike also runs standard gearing. I did try nearly all of the intermediate sections at the end of the trial and could have rode them and had a good result! The carb was great and some guys i know had a quick spin and thought the bike was very competitive. I even had a go on an expert section!!... although i couldn't get the rear wheel to hook up and hop 180degrees, other than that it actual rode the section and even on my rev 3 i would have been up against it.......what i'm saying mate is the oko 26mm works great and is worth
  20. Oset 16: The batteries are flat (only one red light on handle bar indicator and the bike has no riding power). When i plugged the charging in the charging socket on the bike with the bike turned off, then turned the charger on the green light came on, but it has allows shown a red light when the batteries are flat? Using a multi meter i tested the charge current coming out of the charger, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the charge coming from the pos and neg leads coming from the bike to the batteries, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the link cable between both batteries and this sounded out okay. I then tested the volted with the link between both batteries connected, result 24.12volts. Both batteries individually are showing 12.1 and 12.3 volts.......So does anyone know why the green light is staying on when the batteries are flat? my son wants to go riding tomorrow and i just said he may not and the whole street heard him screaming!!!

    Logo

Hi Swooshdave, there is one final amendment and that is the main blue oval should be a single blue block not two colours (not shaded). Needs to be the lighter blue of the top part then its ok - many thanks. Andy or Ian, guys i want to pay for Swooshdave membership how can i do this?

    Logo

Congratulations Swooshdave, the committee voted your design as the winner. There are some minor alterations with the text (see amended logo). Your prize would have been free membership to the club and a free t-shirt, but i've just noticed you don't live in the UK and attending one our a club trials might be a little to far to come. So.....PM your address and when the t-shirts are printed i'll send you a free T-shirt (your size S, M, l, XL ?) along with a bottle of Jack Daniels. If you have a hi-res version of the final logo design could you email a copy - many thanks and congratulations. thespikeyone, thanks again for art work i was going with your design but the majority committee vote gave Swooshdave the win - sorry chap.
  23. I've had the very good future of riding some good bikes. About 10 years ago i could often have a good ride on a Friday night after many beers. The bikes ranged from hopping on the rear end to safe riding in the designated track.....the only think is my bikes don't have the same names as any of the bikes mentioned so far.
