  1. Its not a numbers game your mistaken. Are you last place finisher when you ride this event? if not what do you say to those riders who are not a good as you?.... "its a numbers game hahahaha i beat you". If top 5 riders in the world go clean what do you suggest?........Why would the CofC up the ante for these riders?....... If top 5 riders go clean its down to either the overall finishing time, or a shoot out on a few special test sections (what ever the organisers decides best). You've missed the point the trial has 'its level of difficulty' thats it plan and simple!!!
  2. The rules should include everyones abilities (hoppers, straight riders). If you went to FIM rules at the SSDT i can't see the problem if one rider hops because he can and the other can't? The point which is being overlooked is the CofC. When the course is laid out he/she will use the terrain they have and riding up rocky gullies 'without' 180degree turns will suit both riding styles. The guy that hops in a section which doesn't require a hop will lose marks!!! i've seen it done many times down south when hopping is a disadvantage! Like i said its the CofC who is the most important person together with the terrain and the riders will access the section based on there abilities. I really don't understand what the problem is so long as there is a course time limit.
  3. Picture this, you've a real snotty hill climb and on your 315 its a 4th gear assault flat-out. The question would here, would a 4rt push 5th gear knowing you'd always run a higher gear on the 4rt?. Second point, blip the throttle on a 4rt and do the same blip on a 315 and see which bikes lifts the front wheel easier. Thirdly, if my memorial serves me right wasn't the likes of Steve Saunders in the 80's riding a 360cc Honda compared to the more popular Yamaha TY250? The 4rt is the nuts on rocky streams and is more stable and confident inspiring than a 315. I also like the quality of the 4rt and i think this is an over looked topic.....o yeah i've owned both 315 and a 4rt.
  4. If all the terrain in the uk was like that of the scottish 6 day i'd be in favour of no hopping. But, down south the terrain we ride on is fallen trees, cambers and sprinkling a sweaty mud ....modern bikes are so good even at below centre level course, hopping is now required to take marks off the better riders. Also, isn't hopping is an advanced skill? I say do what you want in a section you'll only lose marks for putting your feet down and hop till the cows come home you've 5 hours to ride the course....well done the ACU
  5. Not sure if this is total relavent but i've a 2007 Beta and found the clutch a bit ON OFF switch, but thats it. What i haven't found is a problem in the pulling in of the lever, and this is not meant to be read in any way as being nasty but the clutch on my bike is standard (six spring etc) and is very easy to opporate with one finger! I'm wondering if the elderly guy who needs the clutch made easy should be riding trials at all and can he walk unassisted? I'd be looking at why he's having problems with the clutch and then seek advise from a doctor if he's got problems with his hands or mobility. My father-in-law is 83 and yes the beta clutch is okay for him he wanted a go - silly old boy.
  6. Lee, looks like a great event and some good vids too.

    2009 Bikes

All i've heard is the graphics will have a bit of red in them - so that's very important
  8. i've always wanted to visit canada and being 31 years your junior maybe one day my family will make the journey. perhaps now is the right time its my 40th in a couple of months the boss asked what would i to do, and looking at that beautiful country side canada is now on the list. just out of interest if you had any recommendations i've a young son so he needs lots of entertainment, and eating out is high on the list as well as shopping for the boss, what part of canada would suit a family?- thank cliff
  9. Excellent, the damper on the SYR was about 1.5 turns from being fully in so i turned it out 1 turn and its made a noticable difference. I've moved the clutch lever towards the handlebar clamps and again its made a noticable difference for the better - many thanks
  10. After reading all posts and being a former owner of a ty mono and a current owner of a 240 the arguement to convert a bike to a twinshock just doesn't stand. I do take on board bikes built in the early to mid 80's (ty mono) having drum brakes wanting to ride in twinshock events but they can't. For me its like driving on a public road and if caught speeding then i get fined, and no matter how much I complain that i was only doing 1mph over the limit the rules are the rules. high-bred bikes (different engine, wheels, brakes) fitted into an original twin shock should be considered, but guidlines drawn up that the engine originally when air cooled the donor engine will be air cooled, like wise with the brakes if drum then the donor brakes should be drum. As for modifying a twin shock with steering head angle changes and engine mods i'm also in favour of these. My own 240 has a standard chassis but with a OKO flat side and i've fitted some wider footrests if you guys think i'm pushing the rules, or have broken them then please let me know?
  11. I've got a 2008 SYR and a 2007 Rev3 (both 250cc 2t's) and both bikes have there strengths and weaknesses. From my own riding perspective i'd like to know if any of you guys know how i can improve both bikes to suit my riding style, which is a novice hopper. Firstly the SYR: The rear wheel does not hop that easy left and right (not as easy as the beta) what adjustments can i make to rear shock to make it more bouncy? Secondly the Rev3: The clutch is still too snatchy i've tried three different brands of gear box oil but neither make any difference to how the clutch operates, or as smooth as the SYR?
  12. BS, mate now lets be serious what the F**K was you DOING to break that vice?....being you the wrong side of 16 stone
  13. The best bit for me is the front end, it looks sorted - nice one lee.
  14. The Sam Cooper trial vid looks good i wouldn't mind having a go at that event. Good site but i couldn't find your calendar? Any of twin shock events allow modern's?

    Fantic

Hello Lee, I put the same amount of plates in as i took out and all the new plates went in fine. i bought the plates in a pack from Bob Wright (contact through R2w website). I didn't touch the locknut as i don't know what i'm doing....saying that it isn't all the way out. I did check the clutch after assembly and its working fine. 22 august, sorry for sounding stupid but is the event in the uk? Thanks, Cliff

Having just fitted new clutch plates i've come across a bit of a problem - that is the clutch cable is now not long enough???. When the cable is connected and with adjusters backed off fully the clutch cable is too short. When i installed the new clutch plates I did notice on the clutch basket cover (this is the cover the clutch springs sit on) there was an arrow marker. The clutch cable was fine before i fitted the new clutch plates, so its me and something i've done. Does anyone know if the clutch needs to be in a certain position when new plates are fitted? To remove the clutch springs I locked the clutch so to enable me to undo the springs and i did rotate the engine very slightly doing this. I've also fitted some new rear brake shoes but i've now got a bit of a squeek. A bit annoying will this stop when the shoes are bedded in?
  21. Excellent event. The man-made sections looked technical and very difficult. It was 2 laps of 8 sections but on the second lap section 8 was dropped. The four leading riders after the two laps were completed would go in to a head-to-head and incorporate section 9 to find the winner. I had to leave at 4pm which was just enough time to see Alexz finished his second lap. The riding from all riders was fantantic, Jack Challoner riding a 125cc getting through the tree logs section was amazing, and Wiggy being the first rider to get through the end gates of section 3 second lap brought about a big cheer. Some bad luck for Danby breaking his top yoke. His left fork was left loose but it did'nt stop him from completing his first lap. Lee Sampson had a rear wheel puncher on skips section needing a 10minute time out, tho the puncher may been caused by a massive splat he did in section 3. Browny was awesome, he or wiggy may have been leading after the first lap i know wiggy was definately at the top leader board. Dabill was unlucky in section 3 first lap, but rode well. James Fry rode really well being the first rider away as too Sam Connor had some very good rides. Sam Haslam produced some good rides on the new Gasser, which looked as if the sump guard had taken a bash and possibly at section 3. Section 5 had a really nasty rock step of about 8 feet, the best rides on this section came from the TRW riders. Section 8 the riders on Beta's looked to have an easilier ride. A well organised event, and a spectators course. The sections were laid out on a 2+ acres site and not much bigger so easy to walk around. toilets, PA, refeshments all there. Rider list: Michael Brown James Dabill Alexz Wigg Sam Haslam Ross Danby Jack Challoner Lee Sampson Sam Connor James Fry Sorry no photos, or lap scores. hopefully someone will post them up if they haven't all ready.

    Switch Back

i switched back because i didn't like my 4rt. My style of riding did not suit the bike in the wet. It couldn't level hill climbs like a 2t and it could be a pig to start went hot. In the dry it was good and on rocks it was excellent but from the terrain in the south east england i believe a 2t is the better bike. However, if i lived say in Wales i'd be looking to buy another.
