  1. It's that awfull plug/fuel/carb/cdi/coil/stator/wiring/bugger kind of moment.
  2. Ohh come on, that has to be a bargain! If only I had
  3. Sorry, just had a look and it's spelt Sikaflex. I bought a tube off ebay. CLICK HERE Pete
  4. Silkoflex marine sealant. Some will tell you that all you need is patience and you can get it to seal without using sealant. I tried over and over again and ran out of time, patience and energy.... and it still leaked, so I bought some Silkoflex and plastered it on. If there is a knack to fitting a rim tape, I certainly don't have it. Pete
  5. The Strtaford-Upon-Avon Club are running a round of the Sammy Miller Classic Bike series on Sunday 23rd May starting at Downs Farm near Bourton on the Hill. Current entries, as follows: 1 Pre unit rigid = 3 2 Pre unit springer = 7 3 2 stroke = 5 4 Unit 4 stroke = 7 5 Pre unit sidecar = 5 6 Unit sidecar = 2 7 Twinshock sidecar = 1 8 Twinshock = 24 9 Trail bikes = 5 10 Easy route-all classes non champoinship = 23 Overall total = 82. The SCUJ trial (and the Sammy Miller series) was I believe created for British bikes and sidecars competing on sensible sections. If the trial was limited to this, there would be just 29 entries at present instead of 82. Entry list CLICK here. I wonder why there are so few classic machines entered? Pete
  6. I've had my SY250 five years from new and always used 80mls of synthetic oil to every five litres of fuel. It's worked ok so far.
  7. I've used these people a number of times. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-MOTORBIKE...=item335c60409f
  8. Whilst I understand your point and to some extent I agree with the need to carry spares, you do need to draw the line somewhere. Is a coil more likely to fail than a stator, or a CDI, or a fan, or a throttle cable or even a wheel bearing? What about breakages such as levers, bars, foot rests.... the list goes on. I've never had a coil go but I have had two stators pack in so by my past experience, I'd rather carry a stator than a coil. Yes I've got a coil in my tool kit, along with all the other items I've mentioned plus more, but you can opnly carry so much. I can forgive Dougie for taking 45mins to diagnose and fix the problem, for many including me it would have marked the end of the trial. So to end up eight was a fabulous effort. Pete
  9. Yes Dougie was awesome for the rest of the week but sadly lost the trial due to mechanical (electrical) problems, reliability is an important factor to any event and sometimes luck goes agains you. F1's Lewis Hamilton looked like he had second place inthe bag until he had a puncture near the end, all that work for nothing. At least Dougie made the best of a bad thing and pulled of a top ten finish. Well done for giving it his best try! Pete
  10. Well done Wiggy I wonder how many times Dougie has thought about his Beta electrics this week?
  11. That's good to know, well done
  12. If you have a current ACU road racing licence then that will cover you for trials riding. Next year, if you are not intending to race, just get the cheaper trials registration and you won't need a medial either. You will probably still need to join the trials club unless you are member of a racing club in the same centre and the trial is an open to centre event. I've probably made this sound more complciated than it actually is, but I hope it helps. Pete
  13. Here is a good web site to check out concerning alluminium,. http://www.tinmantech.com/html/aluminum_alloys_continued.php You will see that different types of alluminium require different procedures. Some need to be softened by fast quenching whilst others require a different approach. Let us know how you get on. Pete
  14. Was it tougher, or longer, than normal today then?
  15. And practice on the easy stuff lots and lots until it becomes second nature, don't worry too much about the hard stuff at first.
  16. Hi and welcome to TC. Where about's in the world are you? Have you managed any competitions yet? Pete
  17. The owners manual just says SAE5 oil.
  18. 12.39 on an LC is pretty good going, my best run was on a stock GSXR1100 back in the early '90's at Long Marston and that was 10.98. I had a lot more power available to go just 1.4 secs quicker!
  19. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! Trials by it's nature will never satisfy everyone. We always provide three routes at our club trials but I still get comments like "The C route is too eay but the B route is too hard!" Organisers can only try to do their best and hopefully learn from their mistakes. Pete
  20. I've used Michelin X11's and IRC's on the back of my DRZ400 for trail bike trials with no problem. Some say that there may be a problem with them seating on the rim but I've not suffered from this with the DRZ. Pete
  21. We had a superb day today on our Enduro 400's, people think we are a bit mad riding them when most choose Pampera's or Alp's but compared to you fella's we're really quite boring Big respect for just getting the bikes around the course, you deserve a medal for that alone, never mind fitting a new engine on the way. I had one five when I missed a marker in Nettleton Quarry and also failed the section with the gnarly roots at Middle Colgate Farm, other than that it was just odd one's. I'm sure the winner will be clean, I guess a few will be on zero so the special test will be the decider but the story would have been a lot different had it rained. Thanks to all at the Cheltenham Home Guard club, a well thought out sensible event as per normal. Pete
