  1. Whats the best way to set the spring tension on a cub clutch? 199cc with serco alloy plate fitted. At the moment the clutch is very heavy , how far would you back the springs off before slip occours or is it just trial and error?
  2. Anyone got the standard length of a cub s/arm (and where you measured it from)
  3. Great report malc hope we get more of it ! also you and that yellow monster of yours nearly took me out on that 2nd sub at Brynscolfa! sort the clutch out next time or fit a horn to warn us you are comming!
  4. Have just recived a 'angle finder' from e bay Will see how i get on with this. It is to alter the rake on a standard cub frame 11/2 degree's. Will post what it is at standard later and a picture. Go to e bay and paste this in Item number: 150128492833
  5. Pressure wash chain after washing in de greaser, blow dry with compresser then leave to soak in a tub of old engine oil take it out and leave to drip dry overnight then re-fit. lastly apply white marine grease to the chain, upper and lower rollers and job done. You will find the grease will probably still be there after the trial! Also as a note i put a grease nipple near the bottom of the head stock & s/arm and give it a few pumps after washing. You will be suprised how much water this pushes out.
  6. Ok i have trawled the internet for ideas but in plain english how do you measure the rake. I know its the vertical point down from the head stock then a straight line down the center of the head stock but how do you come to or measure what this angle is? Do you convert your measurements onto graph paper and then use a protractor? or is there some mathematical system (maths & english not my strong points!) and if say you wanted to bring the rake in 1 or 2 degree's then can you convert this to how many mm or cm you would move the forks back or steepen them?
  7. Any e-mail address available for Martin Adams in Oz?
  8. Tried one but it did not make it any easier & not saying where i put it!
  9. Thanks for the info so far i will investigate the primary side soon. I have e-mailed Venhill re a Featherlite cable, are people running these on their cub's?. Is there a e-mail address for martin adams in Australia?
  10. The engine has had a lot spent on it, all with Martin Adams. On the original invoice from July 2002 it shows what i presume is standard clutch plates springs etc & a 2nd hand clutch basket supplied and fitted. I presume you mean welding an extention on the arm, or can this be done some other way. The engine has never been run yet. It has the SM top tube oil tank, how can i tell if this feeds oil to the clutch, as i remember reading somewhere that there is a conversion done within the engine to allow an amount of oil through. Just noticed on the invoice a charge for '3 drain level holes' could this be the level for the clutch oil to rise to? High compresion? Mine is running 9:1 what is that classed as.
  11. Well i just got back from setting the sections out and we have tried to allow for the rain forecast! A selection of steep shale climbs, some rocks (not like up north but not bad for down south!) stream's and log's. All will be in use tomorrow. 10 sections 4 laps and the club members have a system to ensure all sections are manned. Hope you enjoy it if you come over.
  12. Hi i use as recommended in the owners manual SAE 30 (1lt) monograde oil no clutch slip at all, Rock oil Synthisis fully synthetic at 50:1 (2%), spark plug NGK B6HS or a Denso Equivilent (Steve Goode) 92 Main 44 Pilot Choke 60 Neddle D33 at 3rd Notch Atomiser AQ268 Idle Screw 2 & 3/4 turn out. Check the carb to engine rubber mine was starting to perish Steve Goode sent me a new one. Forks 200mm sae 10 or 15wt. Hope that helps
  13. Is there any reason why this system cannot be shortend so that the silencer sits tucked away where the oil tank was sited. Does it affect running to shorten the manifold pipe? Also how do you get a lighter clutch? apart from the right cable/routing what other mod's are there to get a lighter action?
  14. Back kick Minarelli engine or Forward kick Fantic engine?. I have a original manual for the back kick with all the spec's in it.
  15. With 24 entries in the Twinshock class on sunday, almost double that of any other class is this a sign of the times and twinshocks coming of age? Great trial again with the sections almost playing second best to the ride round!
  16. Hi i had the same on my rims on tlr 250 apparently the rims were anodised then drilled which causes the corrosion. I found that if you wire brush all the corrosion off then apply Hammerite special metals primer then hammerite it will prolong the life of your rims. Think there was similar post regarding this problem some time ago.
  17. The earlier 200's had the minarreli 156cc engine with rear kick and no primary start in gear. i think the later forward kick ones were 240 engines sleaved down?
  18. Noticed a lot of wear in the holes on the top of the rear mounts. overtightening the bolts causes the shock to be too stiff, too loose and there is movement in the hole. Anyone else noticed their's wearing?
  19. Replaced the oil seal behind the srocket on TLR 250 but the new one is still weeping oil, so got another one and its still leaking! any suggestions? Is there some magical way of pushing it in.
  20. Trying to trace history of my Tlr 250. This was registerd by Honda UK and has the next reg number after E. Liguene's works Honda(you can see his reg number in '4 stroke finale' dvd/book). It was ridden in the scottish as it has some very faint markings on the engine relating to the marking system used at the SSDT but is un-readable. Also this bike has RTL bottom engine numbers stamped and an external oil feed from front of gearbox to the head. I would like to get hold of entry list's from 84/85 to see if it might show up who owned/rode the bike? I bought the bike from John Lee m/c in 2003 and apparently it had been stored for 12 years prior to this. Any help appreciated.
  21. After a rebuild and its first run at the weekend (200) the plug was very black/sooty/dry would this point to timing being out?
  22. Value for money then personaly i think the Betor's at about
  23. David Silver Spares; kickstarter
  24. Worth checking the two screws holding the pick up on the stator plate to the flywheel. I had problems similar to yours in that it was killing plugs and kind of 4 stroking. After renewing all the electrics with no sucsess i found that this was loose and once tightened problem was fixed. If you decide to get low tension coil rewound then send it to Steve Hardaker in spain 1st class service returned for about
  25. The correct plug as told by many is a B6HS?, Could do with knowing the correct air screw setting! plug is very black and shorted out when checked with multy meter, have change the oil and still did it. been told not to use synthetic oil and only mineral? 1 3/4 turns out. Everyone i know with 200's use's synthetic oil?.
