Hi all. My sons TY80 started 1st/2nd kick several times prior to this problem, from hot and cold even having stood in my mates garage for a month prior to Xmas. It got dropped repeatedly on Xmas Day (first day on a bike ever) and finally ran out of fuel. My daughter flooded it in an attempt to get it started and it ended up parked over-night in the shed. When I bumped it, it tried to go and then failed after a weak splutter. The carb was flooding. Its now got new Main Jet, Float Needle Assy, Carb Gasket, Pilot Jet, Carb Spring and the carb has been cleaned out and blown through very carefully. It now appears to have no spark, although it did before I renewed the carb …

I took the front end on the TY apart to clean and grease and I,m having some trouble reassembling it.I tighten the spanner nut on the steering stem just enough to feel no back and forth movement. Then I tighten the bolt on top of the top triple clamp that threads into the stem and it tightens up to where it will not turn freely.I tried to just snug the top bolt and it still does it.If I back off the stem spanner nut enough that it doesn,t bind then I have back and forth movement. What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone. The 2 exhaust studs on my TY175 have been butchered by the previous owner so it looks like I am going to have to helicoil them. I just thought I would check on here to see if anybody else has done them and if there is anything I should watch out for.Thanks.

Does anyone have suggestions for reliable supplier(s) for vintage Yamaha parts. Having trouble finding a few items that should be available. I've tried one of the dealers in the upper midwest but their customer services falls between slim and none, and slim just left town. USA dealers preferred, but what about the U.K.? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi everyone I have recently brought a ty250a to refurb and register but I think the frame has been altered as the side panel and exhaust shield doesn't quite fit properly. Is there any reason for this to be done? Are there any standard frames to change to or any help will be great. Here's a Couple of pictures to explain what I mean

Hi, having problems with the tick over and running of our ty80. The bike won't tick over properly. The revs seem all over the place on tick over, itll start reving itself up or just die. When you twist the throttle and then let it go sometimes the revs take ages to drop back down. This also happens when riding it. When driving around the field, after 5 min it also bogs and then cuts out. It then wont start even with choke on. You have to wait for 5/10 min then for it start again!!! I've done all the normal things like cleaning the air filter, taken the carb apart and blown everything through and cleaned it. Also checked the float level and that's fine. The bike runs best…

Hi Folks. Very new to to this so looking for a bit of help from people who know about TYs. I had a TY80 as a kid but haven't had a bike since then. Bought an 80 for my boy at christmas and have just picked up a cheap TY175 off Gumtree for myself. Worried I have been a bit hasty as it needs more work than I thought initially. Anyway these are the things I'm wondering. 1. The frame has some lugs and fixing points on that I haven't seen on any other TY frames. Does anyone know what these are? Is there any chance the frame is from a different bike or am I just worrying? 2. It has come with a Sammy Miller tank and seat combo. Am I right in thinking that this is an upgrade and…

I've been running my ty on 25-1 since I got it though the last 2 times out it has taken a while to run right. Today it was a pig and I spent a whole bunch of time fannying about with plugs which leads me to beleive the mix I'm running is too rich. I know many modern trials bikes run leaner though am unsure what I should be putting in this. What do you guys and girls run them on?

I know its not a trials bike, but my 5 year old has got to start somewhere!!! anyway, got hold of it for free, needs a few bit & bobs, but my main problem is that the kickstart wont engage properly. 9/10 times it will just fly straight round without grabbing. if you tip the bike to the side, it sometimes engages, & the bike will start. any ideas anyone???

Please see the attached photos. I believe that some component of my kickstarter is not right. I know this bike is pushing 40 years old and most of its life is a mystery to me but I find it unlikely that the solid steel kickstarter is bent. But it looks to me that this is the case. Other 175 owners -- Does you kicker fall out as far as mine does? Does it sit as far out from the bike in the 'normal' position as mine does? Thanks,

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a top yoke from the Twinshock shop to a TY175? Looks like it moves the bars to be more central to the steering line. Did it (or would it?) make much difference to the steering? Mine tends to 'flop' into turns, and it would be nice if I could slow this down a touch. (Have 360mm Betor shocks fitted, standard forks and yokes, forks flush with top yoke as per TY Trials recommendation. Steering head bearings are a bit worn and notchy though).
