hi, I know this has been discussed before, but, I can't seem to find any info. Has anyone got any ideas or managed to convert a mono into a usable twinshock? I know it's not eligable for anything, but I don't what to do with it. It's not worth anything and I can't see it would any different from from the current crop of late twinshock's around at the moment.

I just finished the gear shifter mod which I purchased from TYtrials: http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_215437-1617-19-Shifter-Repair-Kit-TY125-TY175.html But now it is very stiff and difficult to shift and more worrisome is that it will not shift up past first gear. I can select neutral and first only. I followed kit's instructions and changed nothing else relating to this. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks

My TY175 rattles, it rattled before and it rattles now! It rattled a bit when I got it, after a few outings it got worse, so it all came apart. It was on it's last bore, so: Barrel was relined (by reputable person) and machined to fit a new Wiseco Piston. Crank had a new Conrod with new big and little end bearings. New piston pin. New Main bearings and seals All fitted together with care and new gaskets, twice! All the parts came from a reputable company, so I presume they're good quailty, tried and tested. Hello, I just bought a standard piston kit for my ty 250 88, but after trying to fit it I realised it was too big the piston is 70mm, but the bore on my cylinder is 67mm is there anywhere that sells a 67mm piston? I can’t seem to find it anywhere thanks, Dan

I have trawled about 13 pages to find info but no joy. Which is the best kit available to reposition TY 250 twin shock pegs. I know Millers do a bolt on kit, are there any better ones available, it seems good value but the kid on the phone was not too sure whether it lowered them by much. PS its a Yam framed Majesty.

Just fitted one of these, this modification must be the most value for money improvement any beginner can make to a stock set up, if you haven't got one, get one. In 1st gear the bike now goes round corners instead of straight on, balance is better, climbs are easier and more controlled in 2nd and 3rd gears. If doing the job yourself, you'll most likely need a chain splitter, I had to remove a full link or the chain would have been too long. Also you may need to reduce the outside diameter of the sprocket nut captive washer, otherwise it will foul on the chain. Apart from that, it's quite straight forward and the benefits it brings are well worth it.

I have a ty250 1974 and the piston is stamped next to the arrow on the piston 6-33 can anyone advise me what this means as want to put a new set of piston rings in and not sure what size is required from the id markings on the piston . Thanks.

One of my TY175s has been a test horse for modifications since I got it in 1976. The latest change I have made is to lengthen the swingarm by 45mm. The frame on this bike has already been changed in a way that has produced a steeper steering head angle but retained the standard wheelbase. It also has TY250B forks and a 205cc motor. The wheelbase before the swingarm extension was 48.5 inches, which is quite short for a trials bike. I felt it might be nicer to ride with a longer wheelbase and with the weight bias further forwards, so I decided to lengthen the swingarm to achieve this. I had heard that others had extended TY175 swingarms by between 25mm and 50mm. There are …

Goudrons and Charlyxty were kind enough to offer assistance with my electrical questions for my recent TY80 purchase. I stripped the side cases off the motor tonight and now have more engine related questions I am hoping someone can answer: 1: Can the gear shift shaft be replaced without splitting the cases? it looks like it just pulls right through from the clutch side (I hope so, the previous owner sheared the splnes off the end of the shaft with vise grips) 2: when I pulled the clutch case I noticed that one of the basket side pieces is snapped off. I will look for a replacement but if Ican;t get one will it still work okay? when I bought the bike the engine was out …

Does anyone know if its worth fitting a boost bottle to a TY175 and is it possible to fabricate one.Does anyone know of a suitable Yamaha inlet manifold with the branch fitting that could be used in the event I attempt to go ahead with it. Regards.

So here is the last part to be burnt out or cleaned in some way. I was thinking maybe some drain cleaner? Drano or something like that? MEK? As you already may know, the exit hole is very small. So this does not lend itself to cleaning with a scraper or screwdriver. I have to go and get two more gallons of degreaser and soak this thing again overnight. but any thoughts are much appreciated.

I've got a 74 Yamaha TY 250 that my best friend owned and used to ride frequently. Then he sold it to a mutual friend of ours last summer and it sat for a year. I got the bike after he passed away last Labor Day Weekend. When my best friend had the bike, we put a new condenser on it and it seemed to run fine. He did have to change the spark plug fairly often because his plug would be fouled out. It seemed to have a weak spark. Would this be a problem with a bad coil or just the points need to be changed? I cleaned the carb a couple of weekends ago and it has fuel getting to the spark plug, but I don't have any spark at the spark plug. Is there a place to change it o…

hi i own a Yamaha Ty80, my bike has sat in the garage for 4 to 5 years with no use what so ever as i grown up and got bigger bikes, but its a shame for it to sit there so therefore i am currently restoring it. Im only 16 so i have limited knowledge on these bikes but when i stripped the bike took carb of petrol tank and so on there was a form of green moss in and around the tank so i cleared it out etc cleaning progress. the carb was terrible and ive never seen one as dirty as this. i cleaned the carb very well and unblocked all passages i.e fuel pipes etc. the bike is now looking well and the spark is very good. the problem is that when i kick the bike it feels like it h…

My ty is running a tubed MT43,can i fit a tubless mitchy(with tube)?,getting different answers, like would,nt fit rim,come off at low pressures ect.Any help very welcome.

I really need some help with my TY175 it started knocking a while ago so i had the top end off and fitted new little end gudgeon pin and piston rings, this made no difference what so ever !! So I sent it away for a rebore and crank build which was done with a NOS Hepolite piston with dykes rings as it should be and a new conrod and all the bearings when i got it back together it still knock as bad as before maybe a little worse !! can anyone give me a clue as to what to look for ? And please dont say they all do that cos they dont and this one never used to I was a a comp today with a guy whose TY was silent
