My Friend has just bought a Goddon Majesty TY250, it had been stood for several years, we have cleaned carb & tank out & put in fresh petrol, started up no problem, ticks over all good. However took it out on his practice track it seemed to pull Ok but power is very flat, not as good as his Ty175. Starts, runs, does not miss, just seems to lack any Oomph. Any Ideas ??

The engine on this TY250 is well-worn, with a good .3mm piston to bore clearance at its worst point, so a rebore needed! But am curious if this is the original, Yamaha, piston. It measures up as standard size, just under 68mm so plenty of rebore options left. The big-end is also on its last legs so need to start saving, but in the meantime I

I picked up an ultra clrean mid-80's 350 recently. It was a one-owner bike with 75 total miles on it. It has the original tires on it. I'm pretty experienced on bikes, running enduro and off-road stuff but trials is all new to me. I understand this about the bike: bulletproof needs modern brakes 20 lbs heavier than modern units has a crappy carb and a 27mm swap is the ticket (Mikuni or Keihin?) too heavy of flywheel and the 250 flywheel is the fix stock fork springs are too soft for most Beyond that, I'm clueless. I have a shop manual on order and am running down the exact year of the bike. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanc…

Hi all I am interested in modifying my standard TY250 engine to a 320 I would like to buy a replacement cylinder and head so that I would always have the original parts to fall back on if needed. Would any of the TY twin shock cylinders be ok to use for the conversion? There is a cylinder on ebay at the mo but the guy does'nt know what year bike it came from. From one of the posts it said to use a DT360 piston, I have only looked on ebay but they only look available in the USA. Does anyone know of a supplier in the UK? The Majesty site wants £150 for a piston kit but it looks like I could get a DT360 kit for approx £100 from the USA. On another post one guy asked …

Hi Guys - hoping someone has some advice please - am restoring a TY250 twinshock, 1978 and have got a new makuni carb from Alan's performance and it just will not rev out. Starts fine, but every time you open the throttle it just will not rev and makes like a 4-stroking sound. Tried moving the needle about but just cannot seem to cure it. Anybody managed to fix this sort of problem? Cheers. Brian.

Just fitted one of these, this modification must be the most value for money improvement any beginner can make to a stock set up, if you haven't got one, get one. In 1st gear the bike now goes round corners instead of straight on, balance is better, climbs are easier and more controlled in 2nd and 3rd gears. If doing the job yourself, you'll most likely need a chain splitter, I had to remove a full link or the chain would have been too long. Also you may need to reduce the outside diameter of the sprocket nut captive washer, otherwise it will foul on the chain. Apart from that, it's quite straight forward and the benefits it brings are well worth it.

  9. After some searching on Ebay and my local Yamaha bike shop (no help there) I am wondering about my next top end overhaul. I don't ride it much, but I noticed last time out that it was dinging a bit louder than I would like going down hill with the throttle closed. From what I am seeing, the time between overhauls on these 2 strokes is on the order of 30-40 hours! So I'm going to do a compression test as soon as I can fabricate a right angle adapter for my compression gauge hose. The hose I have with the compression gauge is too stiff to allow it to thread into the spark plug hole without risking damage because the frame is centered right above the spark plug hole. …

I've just bought a TY80 and want to renew the gearbox oil but am unsure how to fill it to the correct level. The Haynes manual says to check the dip stick attached to the underside of oil filler cap but my cap has no dip stick (my TY80 parts catalogue also doesn't show a dip stick on the oil filler cap). Please could anyone advise?

I always wondered what the difference new shocks on a twinshock would make as far as handling etc. The stock shocks on my ty250a would sag the rear and bottom out easily but at the same time be quite stiff almost like running struts. I know most would recommend Betors, Falcons etc. but the $200-$400 cost just is not going to happen. So I came across a set of shocks from a 90's ke100. They had a what I would call a "looser" wound spring than the stock springs and were longer. Reviews of a ke100 said that the shocks were 'Bouncey". Anyway $25 dollars later and some drilling out larger of the bottom bushing they fit nice and do not have the sag in back. They are bouncey an…

Group, Has anyone tried removing 2 or 3 clutch springs to lighten the clutch pull on a TY250? I guess the follow-up to that would be: Does the clutch slip if you do this? Thanks Alan

I just picked up an 86 TY 350. I haven't been able to locate an owner's or service manual for it yet. Does anybody have handy the capacities of the Tranny and forks. I always like to change out fluid's when I pick up a bike. I've been refered to B&J Racing for parts, any other good sources? Would the 85 and 86 service manual be about the same, I found a reprint of the 85 TY350 service manual available at Yamaha dog. Thanks in advance Mike

Hello I have a TY175 and I need some more info on the front and rear mudguards: FRONT The front guard was a after market one which was broken but held in place by the usual chrome up and over twin looped support, the bike came with a good used Yamaha mudguard which attaches to the 4 bolts on the fork legs, should I use the the chrome support and the good used mudguard combined or not bother with the chrome support, im not sure which was fitted from the factory or whether I have some TY250 bits mixed into the bike? It's not the most original of bikes... REAR The rear guard was also broken so I have a OK used one to put on, its the genuine Yamaha type, under it was a…
