A little while back I put new rings in my TLR200 and now she has better compression and more grunt. However my impression is that the engine is running hotter - i have no real way to measure it , it just feels hot. The plug is browny grey and clean. I also notice that the engine idles higher as it warms up and it is harder to start ie: takes more kicks. It stalls easily when cold and tends to kick back much more often than it ever used to. Any suggestions welcome

Hi I have a TLR 200 that I think is a 1982 model - engine number is MD09E-1005889 - that is the only identifying number I can find on the bike. I need to replace the cam chain however the parts manual I have says that the TLR200D uses a different part number to the 200E - are they backwards compatible coz I don't know which model I have and 2 hours on google has taught me nothing

Hi, after mounting a new timing chain my TLR 200 has a huge base engine knocking noise What I did: Changed the timing chain cleaned out the centrifugal oil filter on the right side After the rebuild refilled with oil, started the unit and: the noise from the chain slack was gone but a huge knocking noise from the bottom end came on. The noise is in sync with engine speed and does not fade away like after the refill of a dry engine. Sounds like an engine w/o oil pressure What I checked again: Timing: OK crankshaft bounce ( in case I bent the crank while blocking it to get the rotor nut out) 0.1 mm on rotor: OK gears I blocked with a mild steel piece: No bent/br…

I gave my TLR 200 a bit of an overhaul and face lift - fresh fork oil, new brake shoes, grips, sealed the rusty tank, a fresh coat of paint and I am very pleased with the results but looking at the photo I see what I forgot... some air in the front shocks ... doh!

When I got my TLR200 it had all the lights, speedo and ignition switch installed and so I removed all of these except the ignition switch as the mounts had to be ground off in order to remove it. I have just been doing a tidy up and I had triple clamp off and so I decided to remove the ignition switch and what was left of the wiring harness. Now it won't kick - completely dead. I have had the bike complete stripped engine out etc I can get measurable power (multimeter) from black/red lead from the alternator and there is only the green, black/white, black/red and blue/yellow and plain black leads from the CDI - should be simple but even with the kill switch disconnect…

I recently got myself a TLR200, not a bad bike but the drum brakes are appalling. I swear I actually gain speed when I apply them! I've ceaned them all out, put new shoes in, fiddled in the garage for hours but still no joy - thank god its got some great engine braking! I suspect a new front cable may help, what is a good make? Do you know of a TLS drum that may fit the front? Anybody got any tips ...... Please. I'm not expecting to do front wheel wheelies, but to stop would be nice . Regards, Bill.

Can anyone out there tell me what size bearings should be used in the rear wheel of a TLR200E? The complete NTN 6201 LU bearing on the drum brake side fell out when I took the brake drum off. The hub looks ok - there's no crack in it so I'm wondering if the bearing is the right one. TIA, Pete

Me again. I need a pair of new footpegs, the standard ones are a bit narrow (and bent). I've been told XR250 ones will fit without modification - anyone done it? Are they readily available, or is there anything else on the market that's a direct replacement? Ta Mick

Hi, Has anyone out there been able to rebuid the stock (Showa) shocks on a TLR250 ?? I have bought some NJB Trick Shocks which are great, BUT the longest I could buy were still a bit shorter than the stock lenght of the TLR shocks. This has upset the steering geometry & my bike now steers like a bus. I have dismantled my stock TLR shocks as much as I'm capable of; does anybody know if you can buy seals? Shaft is 12.5mm. It looks like the cap will spin off the shock body with a special tool. Thanks, Gary B.

Hello, Does anybody know the weight of a TLR250. They look small and light but I rode one recently and it seemed just as heavy it's Spanish rivals. Thanks, NAT.

Hi all It was raining tonight so i took my bike down the woods - as i knew there wouldnt be many kids/dogs about. I started it up- put it in gear and let out the clutch. The bike went backwards. I put it back into neutral and tried again and it went backwards again. i thought great a TY175 WITH REVERSE! 2 more shots and the bike went forward. I was out for over an hour and the gearbox and everything else seems fine now. Has this happened to anyone else before. Is my gearbox about to crash Thanks William

SIX FROM THE SCOTTISH - DUKE VIDEO Colour footage from six old Scottish Six days trials events from 1952 up to 1969. Just got my copy and its brilliant, worth a tenner of any trialers money to see the old (in colour and really good quality) footage of all the classic sections. Just makes you realise how tough they were in them days as none of em were teenagers and none had support of any kind. Bike broke on Rannoch Moor, you fixed it or walked. Some well known faces there including Bill Wilkinson, Don Smith, Arthur Lampkin, Sammy Miller, Mick Andrews and a very young Malc Rathmell. Highly recommended for any christmas list.

I'm sure this topic is similar to asking what type of oil you use, but I'll ask anyhow. I have a Penton/Wassell trials bike that I've been competing with regularly. Right now I have an old set of Betor shocks I took off my Ossa MAR. I want to replace these old Betors with a modern style shock, and would like some opinions from you folks as to what you would recommend. The only thing I do know is I've seen new Betors that didn't make it through a season (bent). And I've read about others leaking. Any advice will be appreciated.
