Pre-65 Bikes

Do all the Jackson Ariel frames have the oil filler on the side of the frame, or did some have it on the down pipe similar to the Bartram frames?

Hi Guys I am new to Pre-65 world. Just thinking what street bikes are good candidate for converting from street bikes to Pre-65. Good candidate in sense of below: Expense wise ? Time wise ? Person skills required ? My personal experience so far with BSA C15 , it requires lot of patience and bit expense . need to change forks/hubs/wheels/tyres/ignition/sprockets/ and offcourse engine mods etc , there are lot of good products in market but expensive . Is there any Poor's man guide to Pre-65 Cheers JH

Is it possible to build a Matchless/AJS 500cc short stroke motor using a roadster engine and one of those barrels advertised on E,Bay? or any other way for that matter Thanks

What's the going price for a pair of wheels, alloy flanged rims, galvanised spokes with Cub hubs?

has anyone tried a flywheel weight on the pvl rotor on the big bore four speed motor if so how did they find it and how much weight did you use. regards john.

What spark plug are you fellow Triumph Cub riders using please, is one with a projected nose better or stay with the ordinary type, if NGK should it be a 5 or 6 heat range?

The alloy billet fork yokes that are sold by a number of people are usually available with steering stem parallel to the fork tubes or run out of usually around 1.5° I have basic knowledge of how trail is calculated but so many people have varied opinion on this so if you have tried both types what did you find, which option seemed the better?

Out on the bike today and my C15 was struggling with the mud clogging the front sprocket. Fortunately I don't ride in mud too much but on a few occasions that I do the issue with the front sprocket clogging causes the bike to snatch(chain jumping sprocket??),is there a way off keeping mud out the sprocket.I have an extension on the bottom of the mudguard going past the swingarm pivot.Any ideas?? cheers the noo Brian

This was left to my wife after her Grandfather passed away. We believe he acquired the necessary parts and built it himself. It ran well and was all there but it was "used". It was his favourite bike. So I decided to show it some love. The frame and swing arm have been powder coated, forks have all new internals and have been polished. The wheels have been polished and the brakes over hauled. The rear shocks were fubar'd so a very similar pair have been used. Both yokes have been powder coated and new bearings installed. so I have built my c15 almost completely from jumble parts and its time to get her running however there is a problem.. the timing side bush I have turned up is slightly tight I really don't want to strip it back down an if I do I will prob just buy the bearing conversion.. however any one else had this problem when using a bush for timing side? it is very hard to kick over altho not impossible.. doesn't help that im using an m20 kickstart borrowed from a friend.. any ideas on how to loosen her and get the oil pumping round to loosen it up a bit??? any comments welcome

My 350 AJS currently has just a mesh covered intake on the 376 monobloc filter and I have been wondering if it might be an idea to fit a proper air filter to save wear and damage to the engine. Before I explain this I should say that I am far from being a mechanic; I will service my bikes, changing oils and filters etc. and I'm happy to tinker with frames and suspension and the like but the hot oily bit in the middle and especially electrics has me bamboozled! Right, the Hardy Cub I bought about 6 weeks ago I have only ever ridden on my land and it has always started first or second kick and has run perfectly. I was due to enter my first Pre 65 trial today at Sowerby Bridge so yesterday I fired her up and had a few minutes tight turning on the drive. Any one here know how to identify a villiers engine type? Looks like an 8e from what i can gather Numbers stamped on the engine as follows 618A 1497. Cheers in advance

Has anyone used a wassell carb on there pre 65 trials bike if so what bike and what do you think to them.. are they any good?

I've nearly got my bsa c15/b40 built and was wondering how I go about registering it to get a v5 and have an age related plate I believe the frame to be a 1961 b40 and the engine is a 1965 usa f type c15 engine.. will this be tax free and will I need an mot? We're do I start cheers luke

Hi guys I am new to trials world .. I have found Honda XL trials 1980's forks ( Drum brakes with 21 "Inch front wheel ) and 18 Inch Rear wheel. I have following questions. 1. What modifications are required in BSA C15 standard frame if any ? 2. Will the honda forks are good to go & what modification are required in yokes .? 3. Should i use honda 18 "inch rear wheel or BSA standard 17 inch wheel 4. What modifications are required in swinging arm if i want to put honda rear wheel ? 5. does anybody know who produces alloy barrels for the 4 speed bantam engine please.

So I purchased a set of mz forks for my bsa c15 trials bike I'm building problem is my 35mm yokes are just that 35mm an the mz forks are 34.7 the options at the minute are shim out the gap using 6 tho shim wrapped round the stancions or bore out the yokes and turn a split bush. Re chroming is not an option as I don't even know if the forks are any good so don't want to waste 150 quid re hard chroming them.. any input welcome
