Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by dixie,

Just got a relly interesting bike I managed to find a nice t100 twin a few weeks back and have tarted it up ready for a bash but the chassis was still about 55" long.(pretty standard 3ta)so i was looking for a chassis for it, Just bought a 58 crusader (enfeild) with a 3ta motor ,it seems really trick, the guy i got it from didnt know what it was ,it is 51" long no bottom rails with a big alloy bash plate lots of alloy parts, rickman rear wheel and marzochii shox ,so it was probablly used well into the eightys. It is reg BAS 501 does anyone know the bike????? It looks to have had a hard life but definitly sorted , it has been in cornwall for at least 20 years

Hi guys.. I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me with the identification of an engine that i have purchased but not been to collect yet as I'm a little dubious about the engine number after a bit of looking about. The engine number is apparently C15T 5693 I have had a good look but it appears to me that they did not produce any engines for the C15 with the T prefix past the number 2200... I just wondered if any of you have come across ones with numbers this high as its been advertised as a genuine C15T engine (rare apparently) I just dont want to be a horror and find out its just a C15 with a T stamped on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated…

Many years of collecting and riding Bultacos means my father and I have number of relined/rebuilt Sherpa wheels, the later type single sided not full width. we are currently building a couple of Pre-65 C15 trials bikes that we hope to compete on in the Pre-65, Pre-67, Pre-70 what ever the class is that the all the other C15's on the day are entered into. the engines are C15G, so 1966ish, they will hopefully have B25 Alloy barrels fitted. One will be in a Drayton frame, one will be in a modified WD B40 frame, both will have forks with spindle mounted underneath, not leading axle. We normally ride in the south and south west ACU and AMCA, if we fitted the Sherpa wheels…

  6. Hi, I've inherited a very late TR20 (TR20 18**) that had been put in the back of a garage for 50 years, and then my father took it on. He unfortunately passed away having started the work and I need some help has I have no reference photos. Some detail photos all over of an original/known good restoration of one of the later bikes would be extremely helpful. There have been some mods done over the years, and I just need to work out which of those was by the previous owner, and which by the factory. In particular, How the original style footpegs are mounted - I believe I have the correct brackets and pegs, but I can't make them work. T…

Hello people. Anyone know where I can get a rear sprocket for a british hub co with cush drive? In the process of rebuilding an old James Captain K7 with a villiers 32a engine. What would be the best sprocket size. The current home made welded steel job has got 72 teeth which I thought to be very high. I thought 58-62 would have been more realistic. Any thoughts info would be appreciated. Cheers. Paul.

Hello, just in the process of gathering parts to build another Bantam trials. I have found a set of BSA C15 forks and was wondering if these are any good for tricking up with internals from say a jap bike ? if so, any suggestions for what to look out for, advice or info much appreciated. Many thanks, NB.

Hi, I'm building a bantam. I have knackered old C15 forks, and thinking of swopping for some off an early Jap trail bike, MZ, or TY175. But how do people switch over to a knock-through spindle. I don't have access to a lathe, or friend with a lathe. In addition to the above, are there any forks that are an easy fit (I'm also keen to avoid too much re-work in terms of the length of the steering head which seems quite short on a Bantam). TonyP.

hi i'm nicolas from france i fitted a rotary morgo oil pump on my ariel ht5. the problem is that when i run it, i only see oil and air bulbs slowly exiting in the return hose...shouldn't the flow be airless and continuous?no wet sumping i think, because i do not see smoke at all, and the tank level looks the same... what could be the problem? when i unscrew the priming bolt, it leaks oil with no bulbs i'm afraid of the feed line... what do you think about that? cheers nicolas

I did a silly thing today, I totalled up how much I have spent on my engine rebuild (a Villiers 32a) Including the buying the engine its cost just over £900 and I still haven’t got an ignition yet! I didn’t expect it to cost so much, the last time I rebuilt a complete engine it cost less than £300!

My G3 Matchless uses a Lucas wader magneto with manual advance retard, as it would have been back in the day. The majority of unit 4 strokes and most of the two strokes have all moved to electronic ignition, which potentially leaves the pre unit further behind... What ignition system are you using for you pre unit bikes? Is it an improvement on the original magneto, and is it worth changing?

I have recently purchased a used peco style silencer box in steel, to adapt for my B175 and would like to know how much baffle is required for trials use. The reason I ask, is that the box at present, whilst packed, is straight through. I have located a small removable baffle which is available for quietening 4 stroke pipes on road bikes and wonder if it would fit the bill, or is it necessary to have the tailpipe offset from the inlet on the box on a stroker. I admit to having no real knowledge of silencers on trials machines and would appreciate comments please on the subject. Thanks. Steve

Hi all I lost all sparks on my B40, havnt had a chance to get into it but would like to know how to check the lucas generator. Also are there any checks for Boyer systems ? How long do they last, it must be a least 10 years old. (Just had a look at the Boyer site and they have fault finding information) Any common problems ? Bad earth, plug cap ? I get the occasional backfire when kicking it over, but can hold the plug and get nothing. The coil is quite old so I may change this as a matter of course. I've tryed a couple of new plug to eliminate that, but have got no further. Any pointers appreaciated Ross
