General Trials Talk

I rode trials in the '80s. But stopped in 1986, for financial reasons. I had a lot of bikes, but liked the fantic 200 professional the best. I'm thinking of riding again and looking at the new bikes. I didn't like the 240 fantic, too much power. Looked at modern stuff but no idea which is best. Beta, Gasgas, sherco, to name a few. If I go down the fantic route (no pun intended) it's not easy to find a nice one. I have lost a lot of my confidence so no plans to win any championships. I had a brief ride on a 270 gasgas & hated it. It nearly dislocated both of my shoulders! Wonder if anyone has any input?

it has been almost 4 weeks since i have ridden my bike as when i got off my bike i got my foot stuck in the ground and it hasent been right since has any one else been off there bike with injurys

Out of curiousity does anyone know what bhp trials bikes are these days. I am upgrading soon to a 2002 beta rev 3 250 and I would like to know if there will be a big power increase.

The other morning my wife said to me "I was thinking of a "ROCK GARDEN" in the corner of the property. My ears perked up! and my eyes got really big! and I yelled OK!!!! My wife's head dropped into her hands as she realized what she had just done. So guess who has not been able to sleep the past two nights! I need input. looking for ideas, I am able to build with steel,concrete,wood and stone. I'm thinking boulders and a tool shed with a splatter wall any ideas?????

I have just bought a new pair of Gaernes- I havn't actually used them yet on the bike, but they feel great on, easily the best pair of boots I have had. Got them from trialsuk.co.uk, great service and arrived within two days. Anyway, as they are not the natural leather ones that need oilling, I just wondered what tips anyone had for looking after them as there was no info with them. Thanks

Just on the subject of Ossa/Gas Gas tangled financial affairs, anyone have any news on the situation? i know GG is shot, but regarding Ossa. Seems a shame to have this marque go down so soon after manufacturing a revolutionary bike. Checked out TRS, looks very nice, but bit staid and really old hat. (even Del orto carb) Vertigo looks good and i guess will be, but not quite a game changer, mainly Fi is the difference, and the lattice type frame. Think will sell very well though, especially with the personnel developing the bike.

How long do you reckon it will be until two strokes get banned? Personaly i dont think they will ever be able to ban them there will always be one running somewhere. James

Do all modern bikes with magnesium water pump housings have problems with corrosion and leaking like the Beta Rev3s? Looks like this is a major problem after several years?

I need to re torque the cylinder head on my 350 77 Sherpa the manual give a torque setting of 15 PSI can any one tell me what this is in Newton meters ? confused of Javea

After doing a post earlyer about what to do to the bike after every outing it got me thinking and that takes some doing, what do other people do to their bikes between outings.Have you got a set routine you have to stick too, is there some thing you have to clean, an order you do things. If you did not see the other post i have to Clean and re-oil my throttle every time. I can not go out into the shead to work on my bike without taking a big mug of coffee with me even if i am only going out there for 10 mins and i have to have the radio on.Sad i know. Cheers Ralph.

It apperas that Spain is on the verge of using Gate Trials for their National Championship according to SoloMoto Off Road and Todo Trial? confirmation by the RFME is the final step. Gate Trials was invented by American ( several NY WR & TdN) organizer Carl Peters back in the mid 90's. It has been used by clubs all over America for over a decade. The French and Spanish have now embraced/copied/invented it and added a complex scoring system and now the Spanish are about to be the first to use it in a National Championship. I hope that credit goes where it is due.

has anyone tried this before? i notice most pros in trials now are running a lower, flatter, wider bar than previous years.

Can anyone remember anyone dying riding a trial. Not counting someone riding on public roads between sections. To my mind that's road riding where the rider is mixing with general traffic. I can't, and to my mind that makes this the safest motor, or bike sport. It would be interesting to compare results with other sports
