General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by cubby,

There was a party of 16 of us from the IOM at the World Round over the weekend, to support Josh Brain riding in the Youth Class, and also to observe a section on each day. We had a great weekend, Josh did us proud and a good time was had by all at a brilliant event. Only sour point is that a hire car rented by Josh's dad was hit whilst parked in the VIP car park, just inside the gate where you paid to get in. It was a blue Ford Focus and seems to have been reversed into with a tow bar or something similar as the damage was on the lower part of the passenger door. Whoever did it would have known they did it, but as I'm posting this appeal you can tell that whoever it …

Just returning to trials after a long lay off. When I last rode, the ACU licence was in three types, Club, National and International. I am unable to see the National licence listed now, does the normal club licence now cover national events ?

How do youlot normally get the swinging arm bearings out? I've tried big tube on outside, socket on inside and crush in vice. I have a feeling I just need a bigger vice. There's 4 bearings in there yeah? All can be pushed straight through either way? The word of warning is: Don't have a few beers then just nip in to oil your chain. Forgot all about the chain.

Yesterday I fitted inline filters to both my bikes, however, I noticed the inside diameter of the fuel lines from both bikes were different. The delorto was much narrower than the Kehin line. So my question is, with the filters obviously being the same size as each other, will the flow of fuel be restricted to the carb of the kehin as it has the wider diameter hose ?? Hope that makes sense ??

Ok...so I should have asked first... I have the clutch cover off and was hoping to see the clutch springs held down by screw....but there is a plate with spring covers/retainers. The plate is held by a large ring that is very snug in against the basket. What next? Ease the ring out and watch the clutch fly apart? Get a magic tool that does it for me? (Seems like the plate is forced against the ring by the springs and therefore the clutch would need to be pressed in to allot eh removal of the ring) Help pleeeeezzzz...not seen this type before

Noticed my 44 tooth rear sprocket has about a 3-4mm runout near the teeth. Otherwise its still in fine shape. I am trying to save money these days. I can press it back to within 1mm runout, or I can leave it, or (if I really have to) buy a new one. Recommendations?

  15. Hello everyone, i would like to knof if the clutch cover of a montesa 4rt 260 is the same as te one from a 301? Greathings, Luc

  16. Started by sjmlancs,

As I've now got my son into trial I fancy a bike to ride. I'm disabled with a arm injury & I'm looking for riders experiences with the montesa 4rt. I'm a tall lad & I'm not looking to compete, I darent as my injury is severe, I do however want to have a bike to ride around, climb some hills & just have a bit of fun with my son. I gave up trials as I was far to busy racing speedway & I had a late 90s model gasgas. The 4rt had just arrived & saw Douggie on it, i just thought it was a superb bike & I kind of have my heart set on one. How do they compare to the 2 strokes? Does a 2 stroke bike have advantages apart from weight. I can't…

I plan on carrying out an upgrade of the Membership System in use on TC over the next couple of weeks to bring it in line with the forums. The latest version of the Membership System is a complete rewrite and, because passwords are stored encrypted, they can't be migrated. What will happen after the upgrade is that everyone will have to reset their password (it can be to the same password as you currently use, that doesn't matter). It just has to get into the new system correctly. To prepare for this it's very important that your registered email address on the forums is correct as the password reset procedure will involve you clicking on a link in an email. You won't …

On our six hour journey back from a job that should have only taken three hours ( thanks M25 closure )!! Myself and my son got onto the subject of floating discs on trials bikes ( and no doubt others as well )when my son asked ' why do trials bikes have floating disc instead of bolting firmly to the hub ' ? I had never thought of this so didn't have an answer despite trying to reason it out . So that is the question gents , why do trials bikes have floating disc instead of bolting firmly to the hub ? Thanks Phil
