SSDT Chat

Such a popular event it deserves it's own forum!

  1. Started by highland lassie,

    Just wanted to say what a great job EK and G2F have done on the Observed 2008 book - it arrived through the door yesterday and I sat looking through it for about an hour before I realised I'd left the car and house doors wide open! The pictures are obviously stunning, but the layout and design of the book is beautifully done and really sets the pictures off. Good job all round - cheers folks!

  2. Started by honda pants,

    Just wondering how many folks on the TC forum purchased this book and what are thier thoughts on it? I have seen the book and think it is a really brilliant piece of work, thats my humble opinion.

    I hope to observe for a few days this year, has anyone done it it before? What can I expect and how do the observers get out to the far away sections? Do they ride the whole way, follow the road or take a van and park up close by?

    So are you going to keep us up to date on all the BS in the SSDT forum or just tweet and twitter on't front page ?.

    Looking through the entry list for the SSDT the breakdown of bikes entered is as follows:- Beta 83; Gas Gas 52; Montesa 41; Sherco 31; Vertigo 27; TRS 22; Scorpa 21; Honda 3 and TBA 1. I don't know how this compares with previous years, but a healthy range of manufacturers represented. Isn't it funny the things you do when 'on hold' to British Gas?;

    After reading Shirty's SSDT and Beta UK guide for SSDT preparation I thought I would add the over 50's ibruprofen guide to the SSDT. First off your not going to win, so stop dreaming thi old git we can watch the young tykes do that as were catching our wind after each group. Don't ever get off your bike if you can see both start and end cards, once you have walked to the top and back down again you'll not have the energy to start the bugger. Make sure you wear braces to keep thi breeches up, no bugger spectating wants to see an hairy old plumbers crack hanging over the back fender of a trials bike, it just turns them off trials. Pack chapstick and vaseline, …

    After reading the letter from 'Scottish Hopeful' in last weeks TMX, I kind of agreed with one or two of his points. In particular, "The bottom 20-30 of the entry automatically forefeiting their ride for the following year". Pro's It appears to make a bit of sense I suppose as the lucky wobblers that got a ride are forced to make room for next years SSDT hopefuls. Cons James Dabill missed a group in 2004 and was excluded for it. The bottom 30 finishers would say "I can't ride next year but neither can he, in fact I beat him this year ". The SSDT would look very silly if riders of his calibre were not allowed to ride. I have just read your response to 'Scottish Hopefu…

  16. After yesterday's five-rider congestion at the top of the leader board, day two of the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) has produced two clear front-runners in the form of Jordi Pascuet (JotaGas) and Dougie Lampkin (Gas Gas) who both remained clean for the second day in a row. Whilst today's route was both longer and tougher than yesterday, once again the riders reported that the sections had ridden easier than usual, even for the early runners. Dan Clark (Beta) and Chris Pearson (Sherco) were the only other two riders to remain clean today with Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) being the next best on a single dab. Thorpe is now tied on two marks with last year's SSDT winner Jame…

  17. Started by ssdt news,

    Jordi Pascuet (JotaGas) sat alone at the top of the leader board as the 2012 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) reached its halfway stage earlier today. The Spanish rider went clean for the third day in a row, to give himself a real possibility of providing the new bike brand with an incredible SSDT winning debut with three days to go. However having already won the SSDT five times previously, Dougie Lampkin (Gas Gas) remains a strong threat to spoiling the Spanish party as he dropped just a single dab today to stay very much in contention for top honours come the end of the week. The struggle at the top is far from a two-way fight at this stage, with a mere nine marks sepa…

  18. Some of you will remember all my gurning last year when I cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh for charity....well, I can't have gurned enough, because this year we've got an SSDT squad doing the same thing! Mark Whitham (Clerk of the Course), Davy Robinson and Ian Boyd (Assistant Clerks of the Course, aka The Beardies) and myself are taking up the challenge once again, and along with some companions that we've bribed to join us, we're cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Sunday 13th September as part of the Pedal For Scotland fundraising extravaganza. As many of you will know, the SSDT regularly has to call on the services of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue squad to help us o…
