SSDT Chat

Such a popular event it deserves it's own forum!

Looking at last years in the program and still trying to sus em at the mo, but a good topic to talk about. [story, TC front page] The routes for the 2007 SSDT are coming together nicely, with some changes planned from the last few years, but the great news is that it looks fairly certain that Lagnaha will be back. Lagnaha is a series of great spectator sections - although many riders cringe at the thought of a fistfull of fives, they all secretly relish the challenge of beating those classic sections under the watchful eyes of hundreds of spectators! The two long days - Tuesday and Thursday - will remain much the same as previous years, but Wednesday and Friday will b…

As you know, the deadline for paying entry fees passed last Friday. We've now had a final listing of all payments received from our bank, which means that it's time to reallocate all the unpaid places and then get the numbers organised. However, there's a couple of problems, and that's where we need a bit of help from you guys! Firstly there are a staggering 31 unpaid places - it's usual to have a lot of riders who can't make it, but normally some of them bother to let us know beforehand! Tonight and tomorrow morning will be spent phoning and emailling those riders to find out whether they've actually paid or not so that we can get their payments sorted out or their pl…

A rumour circulating the bars of FW last Sunday night was that Beta UK had withdrawn all six 4-stroke bikes due to mechanical problems and that they would only be supporting the 2-stroke Rev-3 bikes! ("Int' beer brilliant" ) Six Beta Rev-4 bikes started the toughest reliability trial in the world last Monday and 5 successfully made it through the week with no mechanical problems at all. Unfortunately, the 6th bike was retired due to rider injury (busted rib or something?). Get well soon fella... Pretty impressive for the bike's maiden SSDT outing, which will hopefully give the trials buying public enough confidence to go out and buy the bikes when Beta hit full produc…

A quick question for all you with local knowledge of the Highlands. I will be coming up to the SSDT this year but one of my traveling companions cant stay the whole week so is looking to fly home on Thursday so I will be taking them to the airport, Easyjet fly out of Inverness and Glasgow but which woul be the easiest or most reliable airport to use, Inverness is 30 miles closer by my reconing but as I would imagine it is a smaller airport are the flight s more prone to being cancelled. Any previous experiances welcome.

Every year same old, same old with illegal riders following the course of the Pre 65 and published at the bottom of the results? These people are obviously not concerned about the future of both the Pre 65 or the SSDT. In some people’s minds it is like anything you are doing wrong you will continue to do it until you are caught, hence they continue and it will be the same next year. Publishing it year on year out falls on deaf ears and I have sympathy with the officials as they cannot man every bit of the course so what indeed is the solution to this ongoing problem to preserve both of the events? Maybe the landowners one day will pull the plug? If you are…

If you are a TC regular and are riding this years SSDT or you want to see a TC regular on film this year I need to know names and rider numbers. I know some folks by name and have met a few at previous events but I don't know you all by real names. If you let me have your number I'll try and make sure you make the 2009 video. Cheers John

At the request of a fella asking what are my thought's on riding the SSDT, and what have I learned from the event. Well it's a bit like work really, tha gets up eats thi breakfast then off you go, Monday is a bit like starting a new job, mad keen to get on with it and rush first few groups of the day, don't know why ? all trotting up the first two subs at Leanachan in the fancy new riding togs, well most, I'm the old bugger in wellies and ex army waterproof britches, past looking good for the sake of it, and the girls lost interest a long time ago. Never cleaned both subs yet, always manage to have one or two to keep the observers pencil active, then it's ower to Bradil…

Well at last I've had time to look though and sort all the video from one of the TC camera's out this year. I've compiled a file of the week as a taster for you. It's on google video SSDT 2008. Oh some of Matt's helmet cam stuffs included too. I've also got all the video from this camera sorted by day, section and rider name and there's 675 clips totalling 30Gb or more. I'd love to be able to sort out a way of making it available like Andy does with the photos but I dont have the knowledge or facilities. Maybe Andy will have some ideas. I'll be sending it all to him soon but I'm in Korea so it may take a few days to get to him. Edit: BTW it's 49mins long so get a coffee…

Just wondered how many people on here fitted a speedo to their bike for the SSDT. I am debating whether to bothor or not. This will be my second year riding Scotland and last year I had a speedo and horn. However the scruitineer's never even checked them etc. I know its the law to have a horn and speedo but I cant really rememer seeing many bikes with the correct items. I did a whole day with no rear mudguard and no number plate and the old bill didnt seem to worry as I parked my bike up next to them. I ride a Beta and fitted the standard speedo last year which I think lasted about an hour before it broke. This is probably my fault due to me crashing and falling …

Word is the early entry numbers are down from the past few years, good time for first time riders to get an entry in, "Mr. Dabster" can't call yourself a trials rider until you have ridden the world's # 1 trial. The whole weeks experience lasts for the rest of your life, get em in, you know you want to, would like, should, could, don't cut it!! just do it.
