Classic Trials

Hi guys and galls, I've just been reading an old post about the classic Jack Wood 'River Kwai' section and all the stories that went with it and it got me thinking back about other classic sections from days gone bye, like 'Tremorithic' in the 'Wye Valley Traders' it was a cracking section in a fantasic trial (one of the best IMHO). If you didnt get up the step you had to be hauled up by two or three blokes using a rope and grappling hook, it made 'Witches Burn' look like a main road. It was 3rd gear from a standing start and slippery as hell, if you did manage to get up the step I think there were 3 more sections waiting for you straight after. Happy days

Along with another T.C member I have been asked by the powers that be in the trials world in France to organise a trial here in my region, The South west of France. Firstly, putting on a trial in France is a costly affair apart with the permits and insurances, depending on the type of trial, closed multi lap, or longer one or two lap trials you need one or more ambulances and a doctor on standy all day ready to attend any one injured. This can add up to six hundred euros a day so you have to make sure that you will cover these basic costs, ie you have to try and encourage a decent enty. I've just bought a 1959 AJS 16MS in trials trim, I believe it would have originaly been a standard road bike. I just called Footmas James who I have another classic bike insured with and they say they won't insure it because it's a trials bike! When I asked them if it would make any difference if it was an original factory trials bike they said it wouldn't as they don't insure trials bikes! Can anyone recommend any insurers who will insure a classic trials bike? Thanks and here's a pic of the bike.

I would love some input guys and gals on this one. When you ride at a "Classic" trials clubs event does anybody have a problem with the machines around you? OK not very clear that one i will try to clarify. For a while now we have been running trials for the following Pre70 British Bikes ( in reality British Twinshock but you gotta call it something), Twinshock ( no modified monoshocks) and Pre95 Air Cooled Monos. Now i've noticed that we have been loosing the Pre70 British Bike contingent only slowly but where we averaged 12 entries a couple of years ago we now average 8 and i am concerned obviously. Hi, I am new to trials and I'd like to get into classic trials. I have an old twin shock Fantic and would at some later stage like to take up pre65. Does anyone know of clubs in central Scotland that accomodates this line of the sport or do I join a trials club and just go along with my Fantic? Cheers

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for clubs that hold trials suitable for British Bikes / Pre 65 in Wales or more specifically mid wales. I know of Aqueduct but thats more north wales. Just wondering if there are any or many. Any suggestions ? Cheers

As some of you know i am heavily involved with a couple of local Classic Clubs and have stood on my soapbox on many occaisions in the past about Classic trials etc. Well one of the Clubs is having big problems with small entries. Basically if things dont soon change the club will have to either use one venue only or close. The Club needs approx 35 entries minimum to break even at most venues. Ok some are more expensive, Bracken Rocks etc, than others, typically Carsons Fm, but the Club has been making a loss of late and this can not and will not continue. So what to do ? Raise entry fees ? well they are currently

Hello Im new to trials bikes and trials riding but full of enthusiasm for the classic bikes,im in the midst of restoring a Montesa Cota 200 M29 which im really enjoying,it will not be a concours winner but a tidy example that i will not be too scared of using. I have just spent a enjoyable hour looking at the pictures from the Telford show (thanks for sharing them) i did not realise there was such an event so definetley on my list of things to do next year. Never heard of the Merlin in the pictures,anyone care to enlighten me on there history. Does anyone here know if there is much of a trials following in Northern Ireland. I have someone travelling over every few weeks and with an empty van it would make sense to try and unearth some bikes to shift on this end?? Thanks in advance

Hi Guy's Just got back from the pre trial party. And what I will say is, you don't want to miss the one tomorrow evening if that is the standard set. Every one seems pleased with the set up despite the rain 24 hours ago. And the standard of the show bikes that have already arrived is breathtaking. You would be a fool to miss the opportunity to not to come along and see the trials set up of the future. So spoil yourself this weekend, and drop what your doing and get to Stoneleigh Park.
