Hi all I'm looking for an old trials rider from the '60s and '70s called Mike Saintey. He should be around about 70 now. The last address I have for him is in Portsmouth where he was staying in 1998. The reason I'm looking for him is that he was the first owner of my Cheetah trials bike and I'm hoping to get some info that will assist me in restoring it to "as competed" condition. Thanks in advance. David

ive just bought my first trials bike a triumph cub,but it looks to me like it needs a wider swing arm sorting for it,does anyone have any drawings or dimensions for either making a new swing arm or modifying the original one,and does the engine have to be moved to the left to accomodate a 4.00 inch tyre so the chain runs true without catching the chain? any info would be greatly appreciated as i need to get cracking as soon as possible thanks in advance Dan

Hi I’m thinking about building a trials project, I’ve various bits including a tiger cub engine and a c15 frame that looks like it’s been modified for trials. My first question is has anyone put a cub engine with a c15 frame and was it successful ? Or should I just source a tiger cub frame ?

Hi All, A friend of mine owns a 1958 tiger cub converted for Trials and my question is how important is it that the wheels are central to the frame and wheels in line as to centre? There is very little clearance for the chain as regards the rear tyre. He is a little obsessed to get the wheels central and in line and has started to cut and weld (bodge)the frame. I think he is slowly destroying the bike. The swingarm has been widened a long time ago and the engine was over in the frame as far as it would practically go but the wheel rim was off centre so as to clear the chain. I suspect they mostly all suffer this problem. Is there A way to get this right without cutting and…

Hi Folks, I was watching scottish classic trials when I seen a couple of what looked like home made trials bikes possibly using chinese engines, (about 3 mins in) Does anyone know what these are, how they are allowed to compete in classics? I'd enjoy to make one of those if there was any info on building... Regards

I' am "fiddeling" with gearing of my bike (Aprilia TXR) to find the ratio that fit's to my riding /personal taste. First try was: 42 rear + 12 front which was to high, 42 rear + 11 front was too slow, 42/12 = 3.50 42/11 = 3.82 Now there are two possibilities: 40/11 = 3.63 44/12 = 3.74 (with a half link) Which won to choose: a smaller rear sprocket won't be hit so easy accidentally then a bigger one. Then again a 11 teeth front sprocket will wear faster is difficult to get thus expensive compared to a 12 teeth. What would you choose or any better ratios?

Hi, I am in Edinburgh and thinking of joining a local trials bike club so looking for suggestions. I am not good enough to enter competitions and would rather just access practice areas so no point in joining a serious competitions focused club. I discovered the East Neuk wobblers (in Fife) and like what they say but no response to emails and no phone numbers so it may be a dead club but looked like what would suit me. Thanks

What do you think of this? Came upon a 1971 Sherpa T basket case. Motor is shot (chunk out of case, wont turn over, etc) but the frame& wheels are good. I have several 74 TY 250 motors and was wondering if it would be worth the effort to put a yamaha motor into that chassis (providing that it even fits) ? Or try to make a Magesty copy? Any thought or suggestions? Cheers. Mike

Hi all, I found this forum while searching for information about Bultaco Alpinas. I have a chance to purchase a '74 350 Alpina 116. I had one of these back in the 70's and am really thinking about buying it. The problem is that I will have to sell my 1972 Honda TL 125 to make room for it. I'm just a new fan of trials and don't have many opportunities to compete. I read a thread on this site from a few years back and wondered if anyone had a new ideas/opinions about the alpine as a amateur trials bike? Thanks for any advice.
