Classic Trials

By request as it covers too many of the other forums

  1. Started by stickinthemud,

Results of the Manx 2 Day Classic have been posted on the Manx Trials Club Web site. As You'll see, in a reversal of last year's results, Dave Thorpe beat John Maxfield on most cleans - both having lost 25 marks. Joint third only one point behind were Chris Gascoigne and Dave Wood with Chris taking third again on most cleans. Click this for the results. How does Dave do it? Amazing for his age.

  2. Started by stickinthemud,

Congratulations to John Maxfield on winning the 2009 Manx 2 Day Classic again. Must be his specialist subject! Results can be found here. Can someone please put a good word to help him get an entry for the Pre65 Scottish two Day! He's not getting any younger and his bike is not too trick.

As we've left it a bit late to book the ferry ( For various reasons) - We have only been able to book foot passenger tickets. I am looking to try and see if anyone has space for a couple of Bikes on the Ferry from Heysham to Douglas on Friday 30th August 14-15 sailing. and also on the return on Monday 2nd September Douglas to Heysham 08-45. We will be more than happy to share some of the costs .... Other than that you'll see two Blokes heading to the Bar with a 247 Montesa and a BSA C15 in their Hand Luggage !!! Any help would be appreciated... Thanks in advance... The Wobbler (And Leeroy who can't use a computer !!!)

Just arrived from the Isle of Man, want to thank Marilyn, Phil, Juan Readshaw and all the motoclub crew for the fantastic trial and weekend we have enjoyed. Also want to point out the amazing trial rode by Juan Knight that loosed just two marks with a rigid Bantham. A enjoyable video about the 7th race we could enjoy on Friday before the trial; 200 mph in an urban circuit with 1970´s bikes... http://www.wimp.com/streetracing/

That time of the year again, the March Hare is on this Sunday. Really looking forward to it, just hope the weather is kinder this year, the snow was a little harsh last year. Should be a good turn out for the big bikes, just hope the new number plate arrives in time. Anyone else there on the day?

Question, who's entered the March Hare that's being run by the Golden Valley Classic MCC? Mr Butterworth, Mr Jones have you got your entries in yet?

  13. Started by rusty ken,

I've been building a 350 Matchless springer from roadster parts that i've gathered up over the years, but have been looking at swapping out the frame for one made by Progressive Classic Products. Have any of you tried these or know of any that are in use? it looks to meet the current Scottish rules, but would need to work for the rest of the year as well!

Hi all, I have a '55 US model G80CS pretty original condition that I ride regularily in Historic bike club rallies and rides. I have been doing modern trials for a year now, and feel like my skills are at the point where I can trust myself on an 'old bike' without the fear of trashing it too much. So, I am starting the thought process of deciding on what bike to buy, build or find! A friend of mine has an original G3LC trials, believed to be '56, which has the same full width hubs as my G80CS, seemingly correct rear subframe, and gerling shocks. That said, he'd never let me ride it in a trial, however, I've ridden it more than he has! At least I have good refere…

Hi all. Has anyone heard any whispers of a trials Matchless for sale at all? I trawl the net every evening but nothing ever surfaces. I built one about 30 years ago and wish I still had it but that`s life. Any news gratefully received. Hazel

Where did Sammy Miller's "GOV 132" come from. Was it the license plate registration or the race plate number? If it was the license plate registration, what country? Thanks

  17. With the talk on the forum of the Drayton bantam and that McLaren Suzuki all invoked memories of Trials here in the East Midlands Centre all those years ago. I have fond memories of John Orme and his BSA Bantam which was oh so trick especially considering the year was 1970. Problem is with memories the pictures arent so good so i was wondering if anybody else remembered the man or the bike too? Also remember the bike had a sister. That bike was owned by an Alan Molyneux who like me also lived in Long Eaton at the time. Alan went on to ride speedway like another local Trials star and motor cycle shop owner Chris Pidcock. So back to the reason for the posting. I've aqui…

  18. Started by canadaler,

Hi all...I'm the recent owner of an '85 Cagiva TR350 which is missing the air filter. I can buy filter foam to make up another one but I'm a bit confused as to where it actually sits in the air box. The parts manual shows a screen and a flat, rectangular filter, which must sit somewhere in the air box, but there seems to be no tabs or flat surface for such a filter to seal against or anything to hold the screen and filter in place. There is some mystery nut shown on the parts diagram which is floating in the air and not connected to anything. It would make sense that the screen goes in against the filter then is bolted down into place to secure it...but no bolt is shown…

Have been running one of the newer Michelin tube type tyres I think they are crossply construction Been out three times and 2 Nip punctures so not a good ratio Running 6 psi and its on a B40 I also have the same tyre on a Tlr 250 and it seems ok Could it be a combination of heavy(ish)bike and softer sidewalls? Anyone else have the same probs? Marty D
