Classic Trials

Hello readers. I am building a pre-65 James trials bike, converting a 1955 Captain to Commando spec. I need some information about the optimum size for the rear sprocket as I don't want to buy more than one if I can help it. At the moment I have the standard clutch and engine sprocket with a 17 tooth 420 size gearbox sprocket. The rear wheel sprocket is 46 tooth 420 which gives road ratio. Clearly this is too high for trials use so does anyone have recommendations? I would prefer to change just the rear sprocket if possible but all offers of advice will be appreciated. Hello - I've just bought a B40 frame / C15 bike and have now got it running - sounds fantastic! I was going to put a new back mudguard on the bike but when I took off the existing one I found that the rear wheel runs very much closer to the shock absorber on the silencer side of the frame than to the one on the chain side. The rear wheel runs in fact about 1" off the centre line of the rest of the rest of the frame (or so it looks to me). Is this normal? And if it is how do I fit my nice shiny new 5" mudguard? It won't easily line up with the little holes in the bracket behind the seat - or at least not in a way that runs 'true'. I do of course have 342 other questions a…

The crank seals in my villiers 32a don.t seem to last long before they need replacing I wonder if ethanol fuel could be to blame any one got any views

Hi, my rear hub brake needs relining, the new pads do not engage with the hub enough to work. Can anyone recommend someone that can remove and replace the existing liner. Its a Bultaco Sherpa T, 1966 ish. Local to Oxfordshire / South of the UK would be a bonus, but Im happy to travel to get working rear brake. Thanks

Hello, I have recently purchased my first classic trials bike, I want to get it road registered but not sure of the year and exact model. Frame number is MH34900342 can anybody help ? I will also need some parts as the brakes are a bit rubbish, who is best for parts? Thanks mick

Does anyone know an alternative bike model that takes the same dust caps as a Beta TR34, Iv searched high and low and been told Beta no longer produces them for TR34 ? The oil seals no problem on there way from the Uk but caps ahhhh... Cheers Timbo

hi, i've just been registered on your forum...it looks nice... i own a 1980 250 beamish suzuki,(i've just sold my 325 beamish), a 250 bultaco sherpa t80(1970), and i've just bought a 1978 325 bultaco mod 199...just an answer; i was surprised because the bike was blue, i thought that all 199 models (not a or were red colored, i phoned to two bultaco parts sellers in france, who told me that a small quantity of this model were stock painted in blue....curious.... can anyone give me informations about that?...the tank is not painted, and even the side panels... best regards from france. nicolas

I am familiar with the AMAL concentric Mk1 carb but is the Mk1.5 the same as a Mk1 with the addition of a choke. The Mk2 looks different externally but what are the changes from the Mk1 & Mk1.5. Is the jetting & slide common to all three types ?

I want to build a classic trials bike. I am also looking to build it from the frame up. I know this is the expensive option in the long run, but I dont have much time because of my work and I just want to add to it as and when. I have seen two frames with swinging arms on a well know auction site. One a Bantam D14 and the other a Yam TY250. I prefer the larger engine as I am a large framed guy as I am thinking the bantam engine may struggle. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks

My brother and I rode a Somerton Classic trial today at Weatherhayes Farm. I always make a point of acknowledging those that organise, set up, observe, clear up and prepare the results. The trial today has to go down as one of the best, really good challenging sections, different lines to be picked if you used your imagination, well supported by observers, virtually zero queuing, excellent weather (not sure how they arranged that), plenty of fun, banter and laughs. 3 routes, 1 to suit all abilities, WELL DONE SOMERTON CLUB, thankyou to all involved for such a great days fun.

Hi trials friends, just to let u know that north lincs classic club have introduced an air cooled mono class to their already pre 65 and twinshock championship .so dig out those air cooled mono's from the back of the garage and have a ride . 1st round starts on new years day at the last ever trial at wilson's farm lincolnshire

Can anyone help me with what order the spacers/washers on the rear axle go on my Sherpa 199A . The bike has a speedo drive on the right side rear otherwise not sure what should be at each side. I have a manual but it is really unclear as to what goes where. Any help would be great or photos very welcome Cheers

Just bought a Fantic 303 that needs a new front tyre; tyre fitted is a tubeless Michelin, are tubeless front trials tyres still available or will I need to have the rim replaced to accept a tubed tyre ? All advice greatly appreciated.
