Classic Trials

I just started competing in observed trials this year. Although the word "compete" is a bit of a stretch for my feeble skills. My bike is a Bultaco Model 98 Alpina with a Sherpa T slimline tank/seat, aka the Sherpina. I've ridden a total of three trials so far. The first two events were modern trials. At the first one, the sections were way over my head and I had a solid lock on last place when my kick-start lever fell apart resulting in a DNF. At the second, the sections were much easier and I did a little better despite having issues with a clogged fuel tap. Even beat a couple of modern bikes. Those guy must really suck! Any thoughts on what's the Best heat resistant paint to use for painting my twin shocks engine? Also should I be using a primer? Thanks on advance

Hi I have an old '72 XL250 that I'm thinking of building into a trials bike, similar to the Jefferies bike. Any thoughts on how the head angle was steepened? Im favouring heat bending the top tube but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance Mart

Hi i am currently building a 230cc cub and i am thinking of fitting a mikuni vm 22 carb. i have seen these advertised on a well known auction site for 30 quid. firstly has anyone used one of these and if so what were the results????. and what if any mods are required to make these fit. I am asking this question as a complete novice and would apreciate any advise. many thanks PHILLY

I need a new tank for the Sherpa T 199 i'm restoring. Have looked at the plastic tanks that Bultacouk sell which are in a matt finish. Were the tanks originally in a matt finish, or should i spray the tank to a gloss finish?

Hi, I'm going to rebuild the engine in my SWM TL 280. Does anybody have any documentation regarding the rebuild process, tolererances, disc and ignition timing, torque of the bolts etc ? Also any sources for Rotax parts now that Rotax.co.uk is no longer in business. Anything that would be of help would be thankfully accepted. Thanks.

I wonder if anyone can help me with some information. I am writing an article for the owners club magazine for a Pre'65 trials bike I inherited from my late father. I remember he took it to an off-road show at Alton Towers in the early 1980's and I think won the concours award for pre-65 trials bikes. I am interested if anyone can confirm the year, the show must have been before May 1985 because I rode it in the Pre'65 Scottish, after which it was no longer concours condition. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone , I have a BSA B40 GB engine which is nicely fettled now which is currently in my old C15 frame which is very heavy and not ideal as the chain pitch has now changed so the chain is grinding through the swinging arm slipper after a days riding . There was a much larger rear sprocket on the bike as a C 15 but the gearing was no good for the road work . I'm very happy with the current setup thats on the B40 GB motor . I've looked at Faber frames but a good friend has suggested I also look at Bartram frames . hi all...am new to the classic scene and am in the process of building a bantam trials.Have run into a little snag though.I have purchased a 12 tooth gearbox sprocket but when fitted the chain fouls the shaft seal. have heard it mentioned that there is a recognised mod to solve this.Can anyone point me in the right direction...thanks ian

Hi I am new to the forum but have been reading the posts while searching for a sherpa to get myself acquainted with the bikes I have acquired a 1973 sherpa 350, It ticks over and starts fine andI can cruise around the garden on ticover or a little throttle but when I try to give it a 'blast' it just dies I have had the fuel tap out, all ok and the carb apart all looks ok, the pilot jet needing cleaning but I put it back tiogether and the problem is the same. If i tickle the carb with the plunger and then gas it it goes fine so it looks like fuel starvation but i dont knoe where to go next One thing when I unblocked the pilot jet i tried to blow into the hole it came ou…
