Ok, time to give credit where it's due after some criticisms I have made on here re SACU licences. Just read on the SACU website that they're going back to £10 day licences for club and some nationals. Hopefully should attract occasional riders back into the fold, might even get out there myself... In Feb 2005 i attended a one day ACU coaching course in Devon at my own expence, the course had nothing to do with how you rode a trials bike but more of the H.S.A, child protection, and legal side of things which was all very intresting. Next i get a little book in the post which requires that you spend 25hrs with an experianced trainer and then i can apply to become a ACU coach, now if i lived in yorkshire fine, but as i don't think there are any ACU coaches in the Southern centre, let alone on the IOW i'am a bit stuffed. Now apart from the Pre65 elegibility issue which i have voiced before, which incidentally the ACU apparently have no position on?????, one issue that is affecting all of us whether you ride modern or like me "Classic Pre65" trials is the lack of observers. Almost all the events i have ridden in this year, my first year back at trials since 1985, have had a shortage of observers with usually 50% of the sections unmanned. Last Sunday there were only 3 yes 3 observers. Now to me this ruins the event. So it seems that the ACU have decided to change the rules in 22A and a stop is now allowed without penalty (thats how I read it anyway), The only stipulation now is "No backward movement". What is the general view of this change. Personally I would have preferred it before the change. I am now trying to workout the difference between 22A & 22B.

Our club has recently been given permission to use a brand new venue to stage a trial. New venue, new sections. That doesn't happen very oftenthese days. What's more, it has a club house and a large carpark and the course can be a mile or more round each lap. We needed to impress the owner. We would like to go there again. With this in mind, I held a briefing in the club house prior to any bikes being ridden. I explained that we needed to be on our best behaviour etc. It poured down. Three of the sections deteriorated a little and became very muddy, but overall things went very well. Until, that is I returned to the carpark to find a rider pressure washing his bike. …

The ACU have updated the website, however on the old one you could see the upto date Trials Championship tables i.e. BTC, Novagar, Traditional etc. I can no longer find them, nor the list of rounds. Is it me? Anyone point me in the right direction.

riding most of the national classic events this year i have noticed riders stopping, ajusting there balance, bouncing frount/back wheels feet still planted on footrests, and been given a clean, i know this sort of riding/observing is still acceptable in modern trials but it has no place in classic trials ie once a rider ceases forward motion a five mark penalty is given, may be the time has come for the ACU/clubs to issue observers with final instructions relating to the classic trial they are observing ie THIS EVENT IS A NO STOP TRIAL ! and for the ACU/clubs to print on there regs THIS EVENT IS A NO STOP TRIAL! i still rember when this modern way of ri…

The ACU are having an open trials forum to allow riders or clubs to discuss any issues which they might have. Excluding British Solo and Youth Championships, (which have their own seperate forum), any topic can be put forward. Personally I am interested in the whole issue of Risk Assessments, but I'm sure that there are many more points that could be covered at this forum. Any suggestions? Pete

I have just received an e mail from the local ACU East Midlands Secretary and i just had to respond. I have included my reply but i would be very interrested in others reactions? Filling in an ACU entry form... its asking for my name address and what bike I have in my garage... Having had a break in and my bikes stolen in the past, I’m rather hesitant about filling in these details. What happens to these forms and what’s to stop undesirables reading this information?

Does anyone know when the national dates for 2012 will be available? There is normally a list on the ACU website, but I've not seen it yet. Many thanks

Hi everyone, As title really, i'm diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (an Autistic Spectrum disorder) and I like the idea of having a go at trials riding, I have a road licence already but there are too many cars for my liking! I've tried the ACU and their advice was to submit an application and see what happens. Does anyone reading this have or know someone on the Autistic spectrum who competes regularly? If so i'd be interested to hear how the licence application process worked out for them. Not wanting to steal anybodies thunder but this Saturday is the British Championship organisers/riders etc forum in rugby to discuss this years championship and review last years. Having attended last year I found this an informative day with sensible discussion. I guess riders and importers have been contacted and views requested but as C of C for one of the rounds was wondering if anybody had any burning issue that they feel we as organisers should look to address in 2008 (trying to avoid the what rules debate etc).

The new online licence or trials registration system is now available from the ACU. When you join a club, the Membership Secretary will give you a unique number to prove that you have joined a club. Go online HERE and you can bring up your details using your licence number. Check and amend as necessary your personal information and put your unique number in the space provided. Pay by debit card and your licence will automatically be updated and you will be instantly emailed to confirm the payment recieved. Riders joining the our club will find their unique number next to their name on their 2012 club membership card. Brilliant! Completed mine in less than two minute…

Hello all Just a thought about marking out really with the traditional Red on you right blue on your left and green and yellow flags. I’ve always found this odd when FIM sections are so much easier to read being one colour for your route arrowed to go between them and even have a no entry ⛔️ on the back. I ride clubman and 50/50 so have to change between red/blue green/yellow if required mid route which makes it even more difficult to get it right. As for using yellow and green flags so many people find it hard to see these colours on the ground blending into it. so is it not easier to change to FIM type marking being a white square with a c…

Coming at this afresh, I cant help but notice that the ACU gazette could be updated a little. A commendable update on the website, however could i please make a plea for a key or glossary ? Those that know, know, but those that dont find it really frustrating to find out. Entries such as CR, RI, RR, are great if you know what it stands for, but all i want to know is can i ride in it or not? That leads me to classes - yes, i fully accept i should RTFM, but its stopping my door from closing at the moment. I'm a beginner and frankly not that great, but i'm keen and will have a go. Just thought I'd bring this up here as I have never seen this happen before. The Second round of the A & B Nationals was held at Bracken Rocks under the Mansfield Maun club a couple of weeks ago. It seems that EMRA are intending to use Bracken for the fourth round in May. I haven't seen this before and wondered why it was happening??

I have heard a rumour that the Observing rules for the 2007 British Trials Championship are going to revert back to the old FIM rules, i.e. stop for a 1 etc. Is this true? If so, I personally think that this would be a backward step for the Championship. This was the only opportunity for our top Adults and rising youth stars to hone there skills before venturing into Europe and beyond. Can anyone shed any light on this? John ??
