I've got a copy of the US (I think!) importers user manual that came with my Speedy, sort of real world set-up guide. It's not much, a few pages but does a decent job of describing some of the maintenance jobs and set up from actual useage. Quite amusing in places too. If anyone wants a copy I'll scan and post to site.....if I can work my new fangled printer/copier from hell...it means I may need to read the 'destructions' and for a man this will be the ultimate embarassment! Seasons greetings, see you at Butley and the Dabbers.

I have a Jumbo 350 with silver straight yokes. having seen pictures of Jumbos I see the most have Betor yokes as in the later TL320 from 1982 on. I did find a few pics where the same yoke are fitted as in my bike so should be origional ones. Has any one got any information about changes ? Cheers Ian

There seems to be almost no information out there concerning proper setup of twinshock trials bike suspension. With vintage motocross bikes ,suspensions(spring rates) are usually setup by rider weight and ability(speed). What is the best way to determine proper/optimal spring rates and damping on a vintage trials bike? I ride a 1980 SWM TL320 and weigh 235 lbs. . The bike has the original fork springs and works performance shocks put on by the previous owner(weak springs). Seeing as these bikes were designed and the suspensions setup for light riders like Schrieber and Burgat, the stock fork springs and shock springs certainly must be too light for heavy riders. Any thoug…

Hi all in the SWM Data list at swm-moto.org the Jumbo 350 carb is listed as having a needle SX200. After asking at Dellorto there isn´t a needle SX200 listed. Can someone say what the right needle is ?

Pulled the clutch cover off my Rotax 240 motor (tucked into an Armstrong/Can-Am frame, so thanks for allowing me into the SWM family!) due to the clutch sticking, even after warm. The prior owner ran some pretty thick gear oil, and the motor sat many years unloved. I prefer ATF, but things are still sticky. Discovered five friction plates and six steel plates. Should there be another friction plate? I am in the process of cleaning off the gaps in the plates, as I found some good material on this procedure elsewhere. I've attached the pdf. Appreciate any and all help. Thanks! Clutch_Fix-1.pdf

Hi All, While doing a pivot turn over a log on tl320 no. 2 I smacked the gearshift lever onto a branch stub bending the gearshifter in against the cases and twisting it. Even after gaining clearance from the case no more shifting and stuck in 1st gear. The impact was more or less straight onto the end of the shaft. Is it possible that it maybe worked back out to get end float clearance? Or is it likely that a shock to shift drum may have stopped it working. The kicker is still working fine and I'm assuming the gear shaft is not bent in side the kickshaft due to this. Any theories/ advice welcomed. While ive got your attention my no. 1 bike is leaking gearbox oil and…

Nice old Jumbo that came online here yesterday. Just thought I would share the pics and humorous wording...! Obviously not a trials rider, garage looks like it needs a tidy. Bike has nothing to do with me..! "Humorous Description" "It will start and purr great very fast! Nothing wrong besides that it sat a while so there is a stuck clutch so when you come check it out you can only start it in neutral, you can put it in gear but clutch plates are stuck so there is no slowing down until you cut off the power ha ha ha meant for trials it is lightweight and super powerful..!" Cheers Chaps Motosinge83

I need a spark arrestor to ride in all the good places nearby. Every add-on spark arrestor I could find on the market would require me to hack up my silencer, so I decided to replace it instead. At least this way, I can preserve the original silencer, should I ever decide to restore the bike. This monstrosity would look right at home on a modern trials bike, but it sure looks out of place here. Sadly, it's also a bit louder, though not oppressively so. I was hoping it would be quieter. Oddly, the bike SOUNDS like a modern trials bike now.

Any SWM / Rotax engine aficianados out there for some advice? I've recently acquired a very clean SWM 320TL which I suspect has had an easy life. The previous owner told me on collection that he thought it had picked up some sediment in the carb' having been sat for a couple of years, and I'd need to give it a good clean. I briefly ran it, and he was right, it was displaying the classic signs of a gummy carb and blocked pilot jet... it wouldn't run at low revs, needing choke to keep it alive as they dropped, though was okay at larger throttle openings. So, I fitted a new pilot jet, (a size 60, though I know some folk say a 65 is best) and cleaned the carb' including…

Hi Guys. I’m getting to the end here I repaired my clutch basket got my kicker back in thank you for all the advice and help ! I notice a bunch of metal shavings from the end of that bolt that I used to lock the Crank and I want to flush the crank case cab or should I just pour in some diesel or parts cleaner , lift up the backend and it’ll flow out of that bolt hole on the front of the case , is that OK ? I’d rather not split the cases but I don’t want any metal getting in those bearings I assume there’s no liquid in the crankcase Other than fuel and two-stroke oil that comes in through the carburetter the only fluids I’m putting in the bike are …

I have just finished a touch up of a total wreck and tried to roll start it today. It seems like the spark, which is healthy fires way too early. It just dead stop the engine from turning with a pffff sound. I mean a spark something like in the middle of the compression phase. The vertical line with a yellow dab of paint lines up with the cylinder when piston in TDC and the line is in the middle of the hole on the stator cover when I remove the plastic plug about where I figure the timing should be. I know nothing or very little of these bikes but I do think that the Bosch 12v 55w system with a flywheel facing outwards, and the stator in the cover is OEM? All …

Hi Guys (+ Gals ), can anyone say if the bikes of this age had mineral oil @ the day and if it is still to recommend. The problem with neu oil types are that they seem to make trouble with seals. especialy the SWM has problems with oil leaks and needs new seals for the kicker and gear shaft at regular intervals.

after some investigation it seems that not all Jumbo's have a Reed Valve engine, rather than the 280 Disc Valve. However it seems that there is a No-Reed Valve version also. The Reed Valve Block was only fitted on bikes with engine serial number upto 178597, after that you got a blanking plate. Recent performance comparison's with my 280TL (currently in Gavin's tuning shop, ie my neighbours workshop) have got me lusting after a Reed Block, which are now not available from Rotax. It pulls well without, but is missing some of the 'rush' I'd expect and can be quite slow to get on the power (this is also probably due to the slooow action throttle). I need to do some furthe…

Pulling the trigger on a new rear tyre, my riding buddy tells me I should go for a IRC locally at £75 inclusive. Are they OK on SWM standard rims? Currently running a 4 year old Michelin, that's hard as nails, which has never sat right on the rim properly, one side is always higher than the other no matter how many times we fit the tyre so I look like (yes, I know and ride like!) Hi, Im in the process of rebuilding the wheels on my 81 TLNW 320. What I forgot to do before stripping them was to check if the rim was in the middle of the hub or offset to one side. Anybody able to help ? Thanks, Phil
