Aprilia

  1. Started by bsmallinson,

Alright Chaps, My mate has just recently aquired what i belive to be a late 80's aprillia 280 (air cooled). as i am not familiar with these bike's myself could any of you knowledgable guys tell me what you use in yours. This may sound dumb but i am pretty new to the scene and a little rusty on this area myself all i know is what quantity to put into my montesa so if you could advise on ratio and how much oil that equates to per litre of fuel it would be much appreciated. Kind Regards, Ben Mallinson.

Whats the best pads for these ? Presently using sintered ones which have no feel and little stopping power, but at least they are consistent ! Any clever tricks to improve it ? Thanks Ross

Hi All, Can a spilt in the outer [foral] be repaired and can I change outers so that the repaired fork can be put on the spring side only side and use the better outer for the damping side? Thanks P.S. I have seen some reference to conventional fork conversions. Is this hassle free or do brakes, wheels [and obviously triple clamps] need changing?

Hey good people of the forum. '93 Climber: stripped out the forks tonight as part of a full rebuild, the left side stanction chrome is very very badly worn. hi all can anyone tell me what the ign timing should be on a 280 watercooled engine, in mm btdc please. i've just found that the ign coils on the inside of the rotor cover had come loose. hence it was backfiring and obviously wouldn't run . iv'e set the coils in the middle of the adjustment limits, and got it running, but would like to get it right before using it again.....many thanks

Since i, ve got the bike i always had to refill water every time i rode, but lately it started spilling more, the water is always refilled correctly,i do not know from where the water scapes, but theres always some in the cylinders head and all around, maybe thats only part of it when it is overcharged. Really i do not know, y checked the cylinder joint and they seem all right but i send to replace anyway. maybe this thing can help to fix the problem, the cooler is a special anti freeze (i know that it has nothing to do but maybe) the bike was stopped for 5 to 10 years (i really dont know) when opening the expansion tank while engine is on, it won't jump out and it i…

Hi all, I have goten hold of a 93 Climber that was a non runner when bought. The seller had changed the electronic ignition box last year before putting it away (he said it ran then). He couldn´t start it this year and then the kickstarter snapped. I now have a spare kickstart fitted and got the bike running (rough with it missing beats at tickover). I cleaned the rotor and pickups etc. with brake cleaner and disconnected the handelbar switch after that it ran better but when moving the wires that come through under the tank it seemed to have a problem. I now have the earth cut off after the connector and have run a wire up to a kill button. She now want´s to st…

Can anyone help me? My 1988 Climber was reving very high. So I suspected an air leak. I replaced the flywheel side crank oil seal, and found a little bit of play in the main bearing that side. Now it only seams to want to run on choke, and still revs quite high. Any suggestions? I was wondering about the carb boot the that goes into the side casing??
