OSET Electric Trials Bikes

  1. Started by stuessenhigh,

HI all you Oset fans, I'm THINKING of buying an Oset for my daughter, (if I can find a used one within my budget). Of course I'm aware of all the advantages..BUT,..i have this nagging doubt that you dont get as much for your money as you could with a used petrol TXTboy50 for example?? Another concern is, if buying a used one....how long (in months/years of average use) could you expect a battery to last?..and if it needs replacing, is it very expensive, and easily available??...cant find any price for a new battery on the net. Any ideas or opinions would be gratefully received. THanks

Hi all, got one of these second hand for the kids, im having a bit of a problem with the power, it seems to only give full power for about 30 seconds then gradualy gets slower and slower until it wont move all this in the space of maybe a minite and half, then i turn the key off and back on again and it repeats this. Any ideas on what it could be ?

Hello - I just purchased a new OSET 12.5 for my nearly 4 yo son (and apparently just under the wire - as the website no longer sells the 12.5). I was wondering what kind of grips to purchase, what size and how to install them. My son's hands are kind of small and reaching brake levers has always been difficult. I would appreciate any info that you folks can pass on . Thanks! dylandog

HI all, Havent had a real CLOSE look at the grips on my daughters bike yet, but just wondered are they easy enough to change? At a glance, the throttle one seems to be all one unit, with the electric gizmo/charging light bit? Would like to change them coz the original seems so big for my daughters hand, and no grip on them. Gonna try to put renthals on there. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

  6. Dear OSET Customer, You may have heard about a new law that came into effect on February 10th. The law is a broad, sweeping law called the 'Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act' (CPSIA). The law was enacted as a knee jerk reaction by Congress to the importation of lead tainted toys from Mattel etc. The new laws give very strict guidelines that have had unintended consequences for many industries. Many metal alloys often contain lead. Engine casings on mini motorcycles, valve stems, spoke nipples etc all now fail the new standards. The fact that lead in metal alloys is 'insoluble' has escaped the Government and the CPSC. The lead content in alloys poses no health risk…

Ok... so I made the mistake of "Just going to do one thing..." to Gavin's OSET.. The Mod bug can happen any time anywhere.. Here's how it started.. Then I added Bars and Grips.. Then it happened.. I just started to change the back wheel... More to come later today

Hi I am new to this forum and trials in general, I normally ride enduro or rally raids. I have ended up here because; My eldest son (6 years old) moved up from a PeeWee to a Beta Mini trial, this meant his little brother (3 n a bit) could inherit the PeeWee. Unfortunately the youngest is very small and can not manage the PeeWee, then I spotted one of the 12.5's at a Surrey School Boys events a couple of weeks ago. It was 50/50 between putting up with the PeeWee or getting an Oset until I found this forum, reading back through the messages made up my mind we now have a new 07 12.5 being delivered for Christmas. This is either going to be magical or war as the Beta…

Hi New to the forum and indeed to the world of off road bikes but having tired a little of road riding I am about to take the plunge myself and have just done so for my son. I have just bought an Osset 16" for my sons fifth birthday and am after some advice/thoughts on helmet choice. Having looked through the galleries, there seems to be a mix of bicycle, open and motocross full face helmets. I am leaning away from the bicycle style as they offer less protection around the side of the head, though they are light, comfortable and least obtrusive. Motocross style with a chin guard obviously offer greatest protection but at the expense of visibility, which could arguabl…

Gavin has a 12.5 OSET. He loves riding it..but sometimes loses intrest in doing circles in the street.. It gets dark before he gets home from daycare, so I can't take him to the park. I have a 1000 watt light that lights up the front so he can ride.. To make it interesting, I have this little peice of wood that let him ride up and down the curb. I have also found that drawing a chalk "racecourse" on the street is fun.. So I was at HomeDepot today and I got this idea... $7.15 worth of lumber.. 2x4 cut in half.. Shave the ends.. 1x4 cut in 16" lengths.. A nail gun..and ta da!!! New ramp for the kids!! Works on curbs too :fact I'll post up how h…

I purchased the 16.5 for my grandson a few months ago and just rode it for the 1st time last week. I seemed fine an we rode around the back yard until the batteries started to weaken. I put it on the charger and when I got it out tonight it there was no power. It would barely carry my 50 lb. grandson around the yard. I put it back on the charger and when the light turned ""green" I tried again, same results. I get my voltmeter and 1 battery checked 12.98 volts and the other checked 13.12. I lost all the paper work during a recent move so I'm in the dark on further troubleshooting. So - does anyone have a scanned copy of the original owners manual and has anyone…

I have two daughters, one who'll be six in March and the other who'll be three and a half then. I'm really thinking more of this for the older girl as the younger one hasn't really shown much of an interest in her bicycle yet. Probably a birthday present in March. What's the best size to get? Both girls are about 40 lbs. The older one is at least average or a little taller in height for her age but slender. The three year old comes up to her nose and is stockier - definitely quite big for her age. The girls love it when I give them rides on my GG 300, but standing on the outer 1" of peg is a workout on my feet. I think they'll have a lot more fun riding on their o…

Oset 16: The batteries are flat (only one red light on handle bar indicator and the bike has no riding power). When i plugged the charging in the charging socket on the bike with the bike turned off, then turned the charger on the green light came on, but it has allows shown a red light when the batteries are flat? Using a multi meter i tested the charge current coming out of the charger, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the charge coming from the pos and neg leads coming from the bike to the batteries, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the link cable between both batteries and this sounded out okay. I then tested the volted with the link between both batteries connected, …

My boy Max has been riding his 16" Oset since March. He is 7 yrs old and weighs 50lbs with gear. Running the potentiometer wide open only delivers roughly 1.5 hrs ride time. We bought a spare battery from Ian and his support has been top notch. What are others finding for battery life? My boy loves the bike and rides it all the time.

I reckon this forum might get a fair bit of interest over the coming months, I've just read the news article at http://www.trialscentral.com/cms/showartic...?articleID=3364 and reckon that we'll start seeing these bikes at venues and in parks very soon. I sold our 12.5" bike to a bloke called Scott who lurks on here I think? If so, how are you getting on with it and have you let the kids have a go on it yet? We have a 16" bike on order so it will hopefully be here soon. C'mon Ian, my lad is moaning at me every day
