Riding Hints, Tips and Tricks

how do you other riders get over this fear? i find myself practising sections and riding well, put an observer there with their stern look, clipboard and flask and i instantly drop a mark and loose my nerve! i seem to have a sub concious that makes me to aware of my actions in front of a crowd, yet put me infront of 3 of my trials friends and im a level better and full of confidence! how can i overcome this?

Hi All, I'm a total newbie to trials, Never will be any good, too many years on tarmac, too old plus Zero ability, what the hell? It's great fun! Anyway, I've been trawling through this site gathering tips on balance (superb group of knowledgeable people here BTW) I've been trying in my garage, engine off and on, tyres nice and low and struggled to balance for even 2 seconds. Anyway, today I was walking up yo my Beta Evo 250 and thought I'd try it with the sidestand down to give me a bit of confidence, Guess what? Soon I was managing about 5 seconds! Feel I've made a minor breakthrough. I must clarify, the stand wasn't touching the ground, it was just there to g…

Hi, I was wondering if you guys could give me an idea of the correct posture on a trials bike. Obviously, your going to be more bent over and cramped on the bike if your 6 feet tall than if your 5 feet 6. But yet I never see any raised bars on trials bike. I have a Cota and am 6 feet tall. I recently finished a long trial with an rally between zones which was about 36 kms between the sections. I was dead from being bent over so long. Any Hints, tips on the desired posture?

  4. Hi all, Does anyone else get stuff fingers and knees after riding a lot? I've only been riding a few months so I'm kind of hoping it's something my body's just getting used to. It only happens after a few days of hard practise/trials. I tend to practice once or twice a week and have one maybe two trials a week also. I think a lot of it may be coming from practicing on my trials push bike in between.. first my fingers feel a bit stiff in the morning maybe my knees then if I practice again the next morning my fingers get that lock kind of feeling when I'm moving them. It doesn't effect anything other than being sore and annoying. I find I have to give it 2 days r…

Thanks to Ham2's post, I found this weight-room video (start of video) of JT training in the gym: If you speak Spanish, the "related videos" on Youtube you'll see could be a gold-mine of riding info. Not sure how good this "Jordi Tarres" bloke is however, but he looks pretty good (almost as good as me) in those videos. We have a kid's video and it shows Bill Markam stretching his neck (among other areas) since "helmets are heavy". My question is: how important, if at all, is training or stretching one's neck for trials? Also, what exercises do you guys recommend for this? I train at a gym, but have never done neck exercises.

Wow! This is hard. Just thought I'd have some fun and ride along the kerb edge - I was all over the place. Most of my slow riding is very tight figure of eights, and in my practice car park I'm riding in to and out of the parking bays and it's great practice for slow full lock turns. Can still only get between the white lines in the corner ones that are wider! But then I tried following the white line down the middle of the road (this place is empty) and I was wiggling everywhere. Seems to be about tiny amounts of weight difference that I'm putting through the pegs, so need to learn to have really fine weighting between my feet. Seems even harder than static balance!…

Hi, I am looking for someone who can give me some one to one trials training. I did my first trial at the weekend and am in need of some help, I have the brusies to confirm this fact! I know there are some schools out there but does anyone do it for the individual? I am over 40 (and overweight) and have a 2007 Scorpa. Thanks for help. Dave PS I am Midlands based but can travel.

I'm getting a tad bored practising on my own, so, any ideas as to what would make it slightly more appealing ? Bear in mind I've not long took up the sport so don't really want to be trying anything stupid on my own.

Hi all i am really new to trials and was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to do slow wheelies standing up. Another thing was hopping around, i can lift the front a little bit but can't move it from side to side, i suppose that is to do with balance aswell i don't know. I also need some tips on how to position myself better when turning really tight. sorry for the questions, cheers Bradley.

  12. Hello Folks, Just starting beginning trials training - have 30yrs of enduro/trail riding experience - C+/B- skill or so. My trials bike is a scorpa sy250. I am 6'1" and a "stocky" 220lb While practicing on the trials bike, I seem to have all my weight on my hands/wrists and I find it very uncomfortable, almost painful in my lower palms and wrists. I Know this is a broad question, but can anyone offer suggestions on what I may be doing wrong... bad stance? Need Bars Higher? etc. The the pain in the hands makes me look for any excuse to skip practicing and leave the bike sitting in the garage. I am missing out on all the fun of trials riding as a result of…

There are a lot of good riders out there but it's difficult to learn from them, I think this guy is one of life's great communicators, I have one of his DVDs and I've continually promised myself a second. It's been 25 years since I've been to college yet I recall this motto, from a lecturer, every time I'm trying to learn something new: 'Over-exaggerate a technique/ formula/law to it's maximum or minimum to best understand it'.

Hello , new to trials riding. Have beta 200 , when doing wheelie as I lift front wheel I keep twisting the throttle, how to solve this

  20. Started by funtrials,

Since we are riding for HOURS, isn't way more reps than the standard 6-15 repetitons per set (until "fail" - you can't do anymore right then...use enough weight) advisable? Apparently 4-6 reps per set is the best for developing SHORT bursts of great strength, but less endurance? Apparently around 8-12 reps is best for developing large-LOOKING muscles, but not strength/endurance as much. I'm not a body-builder, as such, so I don't want to choose 10 reps? Bruno Cammozi is the only top rider I've ever seen who was "huge"...all the other guys are not huge...so they train for strength and not size? If so, how many reps? I've heard that lots and lots of reps before fail (sa…
