Greeves

I have a totally standard 1958 Greeves Scottish in road going trim. I intend to make a few modifications to improve its off road use. My main concern is what gearing should I be using? Oh, it's a 9E 197cc Villiers engine. It will be used in easy route club trials. I also want to change the standard exhaust to a lighter more robust type. Are there any off the shelf bolt on systems available for the Greeves? Thanks in advance for any information. Many thanks SJL

My '59 Greeves Scottish is running fine now after much ado, but fuel still slops all over the tank (steel one) and my trousers when riding offroad. It has a new filler cap but it still leaks. Is this a common ailment and is their an effective solution ?. Cheers Paul

Just finished rebuilding my 24tes New seals, bearings,rebore piston and was advised to go for a new amal now I have two new problems, first she's an absolute pig to start tried flooding it with the tickler no choke then with choke then after loads of kicks she'll fire then on to fault 2 it will tick over for about 10 seconds then it will rev to the max and can't be stopped on the kill switch only using the gearbox and brakes, it's got new gaskets on the inlet and a new oring on the carb, so now I've dropped on the original amal monobloc and with one tickle fired up with two kicks it runs ok but it's really wooly of the bottom, does anyone have any ideas is it me or is thi…

There are three Greeves entered in the Scottish, saw them being prepared in the Parc Ferme today.

Well Santa has packed his Sleigh away for another year. The Greeves is all ready to go. First Trial Kicks off next week.

Hi Can anyone tell me if they have information on the type of Puch engine that was fitted to the Greeves Pathfinder? Big finned head. Where can spares be sourced from? Complete engine? How much do you think if i can find one? Look forward to your answers - can you email me direct please? Cheers

Hello, can anyone help. I purchased a 1959 Scottish which needed rebuilding. One good point was that the wheels had been rebuilt with new rims and spokes. However when I fit them to the frame the rim does not sit in the middle of the stays whether it be on the front or the rear wheel, in both cases the edge of the rim is in line with the brake hubs. I have tried putting on extra spacers to correct the error but they do not compensate and the wheels still sits off centre of the stays. I believe when the wheels were rebuilt the off set was wrong? Can anyone advise what the off set should be, and or suggest where I might find this information? Thanks in advance. …

Hi, I have a Greeves bitsa, basically a 1960 SCS Hawkstone, which has been set up for trials with footrests mounted on the s/a spindle, brake pedal shortened to suit, trials engine plates complete with side stand, Parkinson conversion with thick Tufnol spacer and a trials top fork"yoke" with the ends of the curve pointing forward. Is it the case that all the fork main "H" pieces are the same and a scrambles top yoke with ends of the curve pointing backwards will convert the forks to scrambles trail?. I also think I'll need scrambles engine plates which give a slightly different weight distribution?. I've read the books and done the googling but am stumped, any ad…

I just finished reading an article on Don Smith.I really admire that era of riders because many of them did it all as far as develope,build and ride well. I don,t know much about Greeves other than I like the unique looks and would love to try one out.It had a picture of him on his newly debuted 1964 SSDT bike that he had modified and extensively lightened. I,m just curious what the production one weighed and if anyone has an idea as to what his modified bike weighed? From what I,ve read it seems like Mr. Smith would have been great fun to hang out and ride with as well as learn from.

Hi, I went riding today at a local practice area in the midlands, parked up next to a van with greeves signs all over it, as we rode down we saw two new greeves being tested buy a top trials rider I won't say who just incase I should not mention Who it was!! I know there seems to be alot of negative people out there who have already knocked it! But it certainly looked like it could cope with everything thrown at it! Anyway it's good to see another bike manufacturer back on the scene and british company aswell!! Let's hope they get more support! Rij
