Hi all. Just joined the group today, so i am new to the forum. This is my first post, and hopefully I can get an answer to my query. I have reached the stage of giving up my Kawasaki ZXR in favour of something smaller and lighter, and as i owned a Montesa Cota 247, and ran it on the road (about forty years ago ! ) i thought that this would be the way to go. I am in the process of buying a Bultaco sherpa at the moment, with the intention of getting it registered for the road, and entering a couple of road runs . The bike doesn't have a V5 . Hello All - New to the forum. Getting back into trials after a long break. Just about to start a full rebuild of a 1976 Montesa Cota 246 with my 11 year daughter in the hope of dragging her off social media for at least an hour a night! Ideally I would like to road register the bike in the UK. The frame and engine numbers match. I am familiar with how to obtain a v5. Its the Montesa bit that concerns me. I am guessing obtaining paperwork for a 1970s bike will be a challenge. Any guidance would be appreciated. Best wishes Moray

Is tow bar rack legal in uk?

I'm assuming this is a may be looked on as a bit of a daft question but is it possible to insure a trials bike against theft when stored? If so have you any recommendations for companies who do it?

What are the numberplate options for a modern trials bike?

Anyone having much joy with insuring a 300RR? Seem almost impossible to find a company that lists the bigger 288cc motor, the 250 and 260 can be insured no problem. Unfortunately Msm insurance don’t cover my area.

Hi all, New to the sport and the site but hoping to have my own bike by mid Jan, so been doing my homework on vans and now looking at insurance for the bike! I'm having issues trying to get quotes to cover the bike as I don't have a bike licence and wasn't planning on getting one either. Can anyone on here that doesn't have a bike licence and has a non registered bike let me know what you do for insurance? My old Tiger Cub has been in my possession for 31 years , however when I moved out of my family home 25years ago, I couldn't find the log book, but as I only did the odd trial, and the Christmas engine run up with my Dad (RIP). I wasn't overly bothered , however while going through documents after we lost Mum, I found the original Log book in my name , So I sent it off to the DVLA, with covering letter .... Much to my surprise I have had a two month correspondents ping pong, even having to Photograph the frame number , number plate , etc.... But have finally been told its being processed ... Is this now the norm ?

Just to let people know that dvla have changed the v55/5 forms in September they still send out the old ones though! I have had mine rejected just because it's the old form which I only received from them 4 weeks ago. if you print one off online and fill it in identical to the old one it will be fine (dvla told me) so make sure you don't fill out any old ones old ones have the carbon part on the back!

Ok, so I know that in the UK you officially need a horn and a motorbike-sized number plate for daytime running on the road, and in France you're ok with an LED front and tail light (brake light too?), and a mini number plate (not sure about horn) ... what about in Spain? What's the minimum equipment for a trials bike to be 100% legal?

I am considering buying a Suzuki RL250 which has a Whitehawk frame. The bike is not registered. There are no numbers on the frame and I must be able to road register this bike in order to use it on road trials. There must be quite a few Whitehawk framed bikes out there and some must be registered. Can anyone give me a steer on what I need to do.

Hi Everyone, Just got off the phone from Carole Nash and they're saying that they won't insure any trials bike worth over 5 Grand, and the bikes got to be road registered to put it under a motorbike policy. Anyone use any other off road Insurance companies.. Thanks in advance

Hi, my Montesa 123 is somewhere around 1972 in age... does anyone know where I can get a certificate of age so that I can get an age related plate. I don't think there is an owners club.

Got a 71 M80 Bultaco Sherpa project on the go. If I want to register it with an age related page I'm thinking I'm best to do it before restoration so that it is clearly original. As it's over 40 years old it should be tax and MOT exempt but can you register the bike without these or do you still need them for first registration? Cheers.

So I would like to road reg my GasGas TXT 250. I have the V55/5 (I think it is) form the DVLA but I think there is more to it than that isn't there? I was wondering if anyone could detail the process and the cost involved, I've read some posts on it but some of those are a good few years old now and I know the Gov love to "update" how things are done for no reason. Hi all, Nearly got the old M27 ready for a first firing so starting to think about getting the original reg number back. All I have documents wise is tax discs up to 1980 in tatty condition and the rear number plate with just the outline of the lettering which has long since peeled off. Photo attached. I understand I will need to get an owners club to sign off that the bikes genuine but theres no Bultaco owners club so who do I go to? Anybody got advice on the pitfalls and perils I face?
