Montesa

  1. Started by mat,

Hello, Does anyone know if a Ohlins shock (as advertised on the tinterweb auction site) will fit a 2005 4rt ? (I think 2005 to 2008 had shorter shock length ? I have been informed that the Ohlins was built for 2014 bikes / shock lengths but does it matter?

I purchased a used 06 Repsol 4RT to see how I got on with a 4 stroke and am now a complete convert. Going through the various spares and bits in bags that came with the bike recently, I found 2 used sleeves with flanges that appear to have been previously fitted somewhere in the exhast system; according to the wonderfully concise manual, one of the sleeves looks like it fits inside the header pipe where it bolts onto the cylinder head and the other sleeve looks like it fits in the silencer socket which slips over the other end of the header pipe. Are these items removed for any reason? I do know that the diffuser on the back end of the silencer does make a dif…

Hi there guys (and girls), I have a Montesa 315 of the year 2000, and was wondering if anyone has had a 315 and tried different carbs. The bike runs perfectly, but the usual knocking is there sometimes when i crank the throttle from low revs (i'm told this is normal). My question is: Has anyone tried another carb on the 315r, if so, which one, and how did it go? I have a spare Mikuni carb. Thanks a lot. Pete

Built my first trials bike in 2002-3 in the UK. Bought it as a tatty rusty runner in the normal Montesa red colour. A mate sold it in 04-05 after i had emigrated. A Montesa 247 Cota. Powdercoated silver frame with a posh blue paint job done by a pro painter friend of mine. Blue gaitors, lots of polished alloy, fresh plated parts like k/start etc, new stainless fasteners, new white plastic guards, new rear shocks. New Renthal bars and blue Renthal grips. Looked stunning. Just wondering if any inmate has ever seen it or even owns it. Cheers.

  8. I'm finding the clutch a little unforgiving for a learner such as myself and was wondering if a master cylinder with a smaller piston would expand the current on/off clutch action into something a little more friendly. It's an AJP MC.

Dads off line for now, kids messed up the computer . The clutch on his 4rt was perfect for the first few weeks but is now next to impossible to start the bike in gear because it is pulling? Hes been using the Elf oil and has bled the system through so it not a cable/cylinder problem thats causing it. Has anyone had any problems like this and what can be done mod wise to sort it out. He does have Hyspin AWS32 high performance mineral hydraulic oil which is very thin like the Elf, anyone tried it? or is there a better oil to stop the dragging. Many thanks for any comments or answers

Can anyone tell me the standard sprocket sizes for a 315? I'd also be interested to know what combinations people ride with. I'm thinking my 1st gear isn't low enough for the slower stuff. I based near Richmond, North Yorkshire so lots of wet grass, mud and rocks rocks and more rocks!

Hello CHaps, I have '99 315r and it has been brilliant for almost 2 years since i bought it. But today i got to the trial and she no go! I checked the spark plug and it was a bit gruby and no spark, so i put a brand new one in and still no spark. That is where my mechanical /electrical knowledge ran out and the old man is old school so doesn't really have any ideas either. (he can build beautiful old bike from the ground up though!) any thoughts?? As much as i enjoyed observing today, it's much more fun falling off myself than watching others! Ta Dan

I was driving a week ago and hit the baseplate to a rock edge. The hit wasnt particular hard, more or less something that happens every now and then. After this hit, I have noticed a strange noise like a metallic tinkle. It doesnt occur when in idle, but as the revs increase it is like motor would knock or resonate against something hard. Bike feels normal, engine has power, nothing else has changed but the new noise. I looked today everything I could imagine that could be loose or if there would be for example broken bolt or something but nothing. Tomorrow I will open both sides of the motor, check if there is anything loose and change the fluids. Friend of mine with sam…

  17. I recently ordered a couple Jitsie airfilters for my 05 4rt. It's pretty obvious that they don't use the stock mesh flame arrester, but to you use the top plastic frame or just put the bolts through the holes in the filter and call it good? I've been using the plastic holder and bolt holes in the filter are getting torn off. Thanks.

Hi Any guys used H&D racing upgrade linkage for a montesa 315r? My standard one is pretty beat so I though I may as well up grade and replace and at £36 they aren't silly expensive! Says it makes the bike easier to hop around by reducing the amount of sag surely less sag is good (I understand sag is also needed) but is there actually a difference? Any advice is great!? Thanks Lewis

Picked up my 4rt yesterday and had my first ride on it today...made my first crash today too I found it a little bit difficult to drive slow on 1 gear, since the tick over is relativly high... has anyone tested the bike with the 43 rear sprocket on? is it better? otherwise the bike is great and drive almost anywere with 1 gear (standard sprocket on), would be shame to loose that
